Bonnes Amies install playground equipment
The Bonnes Amies Club held a dedication service June 30 for
playground equipment recently installed at Thomas C. Pack Jr. Park in Piedmont.
Club President Gretchen Craig was joined by members of the club,
Piedmont Commissioners, Piedmont firefighters and members of
the community for the dedication.
Anderson County Councilman Bill Dees and Greenville County Councilman
Bunk Johnson were also in attendance.
The $13,000 project was funded with money raised during the 12th
annual Footbridge Festival, according to Craig.
The Bonnes Amies Club originated in 1954 and is a community service
club that has been involved in numerous projects in Piedmont.
More recently they have sponsored the Piedmont Christmas parade and
helped the Mothers Club sponsor the Piedmont Tour of Homes.
They organized the first Footbridge Festival in 1990 and more than
$62,000 has been generated from festivals to beautify and maintain
the community and provide needed items for public use, members said.
Other projects undertaken by the group include providing bleachers
for the Piedmont Ball Park, awnings at the Community Building, Rose
Hill Cemetery entrance sign, commissioned mural of old Train Depot on
warehouse, lawn equipment for Piedmont Fire Department, park benches
on Hotel Hill and the downtown sidewalk.
Also flower containers and seasonal plants on downtown sidewalk,
handrails at the Community building and parking lot, scraped and
repainted the gym walls and bleachers, installed professional stage
curtains in the gym, installed new front doors on the Communty building.
The groups has also made donations for Christmas lights, flags, Meals
on Wheels, Boys Home of the South, Woodmont and Wren band
departments, Memories Association and others.
A dedication ceremony for the renovated Piedmont ball park was
held Mar. 19.
The entire facility was renovated and now includes a new ball field,
lights, walking track and concession and restroom facilities.
Other improvements at the field include new fence, water fountain,
buildings and parking.
A permanent marker recognizes the facility as the Tom C. Pack, Jr.
Memorial Park and designates it as the former Buchanan Field. |
