SADIE W. CHAPPELL

Sadie Winslow Chappell, 84, wife of Junior Hubert Chappell, of Easley, died Jan. 4, 2006 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

Born in Belton, she was a daughter of the late James Monroe Winslow and Blanche Fletcher Winslow. She was a retired textile worker and was a member of Missionary Baptist Church in Pickens.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Kathy Scott of Pelzer; sons, Stanley Gallimore of Immokalee, FL and Ronnie Gallimore of Campobello; stepdaughters, Ann Childress of Liberty, Nancy Wells of Muscle Shoals, AL and Sandra Jean Gilstrap of Liberty; stepsons, Furman Chappell of Liberty, Dale Chappell of Cleveland and Tammy Chappell of Leesburg, GA; a sister, Mozelle Batson of Travelers Rest; and a brother, Lloyd Winslow of Conestee.

Graveside services were held Jan. 6 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

EVELYN M. SAYLORS

Dorothy Evelyn Mullikin Saylors, 75, of Williamston died Jan. 3, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Harmon N. Smith and Alma Hicks Smith. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Platt-Reed Piano Co. She was a member of Six and Twenty Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Randy Mullikin of the home; and a brother, W.H. “Bill” Smith of Williamston.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Rhett Henry Mullikin; her second husband, John Thomas Saylors.

Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at Six and Twenty Baptist Church. Interment followed in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Anderson.


CLARENCE EVANS

Clarence Edward Evans, 61, of Pelzer, died Jan. 3, 2006 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church. He was a self-employed farmer.

Surviving are widow, Elizabeth Evans of Greenville; daughters, Yasmin Kearse of Piedmont and Valerie Evans of Greenville; sons, Clarence Evans Jr. and Jeffrey Evans of Greenville; sisters, Shirley Taylor of Simpsonville and Alice Henderson of Pelzer; brothers, John Lewis Evans Jr. of Simpsonville and Nathan Evans of Greenville; and eight grandchildren.

He was the son of the late John Lewis Evans and Lucille Jackson Evans Fleming.

Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at Reedy Fork Baptist Church in Simpsonville. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


JERRY CAMPBELL

Jerry Claude Campbell, 64, husband of Mary Cook Campbell, of Pelzer, died Jan. 5, 2006 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Jack Charles and Sybil Saxon Campbell. He was formerly employed by W. R. Grace, Cryovac, and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by sons, Michael W. Hales, Curtie E. Hales, both of Hampton, VA, Darryl K. Hales of Greenville; daughter, Donna L. Oltarzewski of Pelzer; brother, Jack C. Campbell, Jr. of Greenville; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 7 at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

PORTER H. SULLIVAN

Porter H. Sullivan, 92, of Piedmont, died Dec. 31, 2005 at his home.

He was born in Piedmont, son of the late Mills and Frances Huff Sullivan. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie G. Sullivan. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Lance Timothy Sullivan of Greenville; sisters, Dora Pollard, the Rev. Frances Way and Cora Lee Brown, all of Philadelphia, PA, and the Rev. Veola Freeman of Brookllyn, NY; a brother, the Rev. Dr. Capers H. Sullivan of Taylors; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 7 at Springfield Baptist Church. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.


INFANT BRAYLIN HILL

William Braylin Hill, infant son of William Chester Hill and Nikki Powell Hill of West Pelzer, died Jan. 3, 2006 at the AnMed Health Woman’s and Children’s Hospital in Anderson.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a brother, Logan nathaniel Williams of the home; and grandparents, Tina Powell Estes of Belton and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Hill of Anderson.

A graveside service was held Jan. 6 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.


GEORGE REID MULLIKIN

George Reid Mullikin, 82, husband of Elizabeth B. Mullikin, of Williamston, died Jan. 6, 2006 at his home.

Born in Greenville County he was a son of the late Guyton Mullikin and the late Nina Reid Mullikin. He retired from Trans Continental Gas and Pipeline. He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church in Williamston.

Surviving are his wife, of the home; son, Donald Rhett Mullikin of Williamston; sister, Virginia Shirley of Greenville; three grandchildren; and one step-grandson.

Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

GINA BOGGS DEVINE

Gina Marie Boggs Devine, 38, wife of Edward Devine, of Fort Pierce, FL, died Jan. 5, 2006 at Indian River Memorial Hospital in Florida.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of Joyce Ann Fowler Donahue of Honea Path. She was formerly employed by Hudson Studio and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her step-father, Robert Donahue of Honea Path; daughter, Alicia Marie Bashor; son, Charles Bashor, both of Williamston; step-son, Charley Devine; step-sisters, Gail Elledge, Angie Gillespie and step brother, Dale Donahue.

Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial followed in the Greenville Memorial Gardens.


CLARA “MICKIE” CHILDS

Clara Milwee “Mickie” Garner Childs, 62, of Williamston, died Jan. 7, 2006 at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Joe Robert and Clara McElrath Garner. She was employed at Hickory Point in Pelzer and attended the Pelzer First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Claudia Ingram of Belton; son, Jimmy Childs of Williamston two brothers, Larry C. Garner of Pelzer, Ray Garner of Piedmont; three sisters, Faye Kelly of Williamston, Rebecca Ginn of Townville, Cynthia Womack of Houston, TX; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 9  at Pelzer First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Pine Lawn Cemetery.


D.A. ‘JUNE’ BROWN JR.

D.A. “June” Brown Jr., 69, of Pinnacle, NC, died Jan. 8, 2006 at his home.

He was born in Piedmont to the late Dr. Anthony and Mattie Belle Cook Brown.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Smith Brown; daughter, Jenny Cooley of Belton; sons, Frankie Ray Brown and Donald Redd, all of Westfield, NC, and Steve Flinchum of Pinnacle, NC; daughters, Samantha, Debra and Angel Brown of the home; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Ed Brown of Pelzer, and John Thompson of Piedmont; and sister, Vivian Bishop of Piedmont.

Private service will be held at a later date.


LORETTA CARTER

Loretta Carter, 70, of Clinton, died Jan. 7, 2006 at the Greenville Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Lockhart and was a daughter of the late John Boyd Young Sr. and Lorene McCloud Young.

She was retired from Alice Manufacturing in Easley and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Allan Carter of the home; two sons, Duane “Stud” Johnson and Boyd R. “Dink” Johnson, both of Clinton; two brothers, John B. “J.B.” Young Jr. of Clover and Lewis R. “Skeeter” Young of Piedmont; sister, Lois Mahaffey of Clover; amd three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 10 in the Gray Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed at Rosemont Cemetery.


LEROY R. MCALISTER

Leroy R. McAlister, 65, of Piedmont, died Jan. 7, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown.

Born in Pickens, he was a son of the late J.V. and Mettie Stone McAlister. He was a self-employed cabinet maker and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma Goodwin McAlister; daughter, Cynthia “Lynn” Ballenger of Greenville; son, Dennis Leroy McAlister of Easley; two brothers, Melvin McAlister of Travelers Rest and J.T. McAlister of Piedmont; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan.10 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel. Interment followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.


WILlENE T. FOWLER

Alma Willene Turner Fowler, 84, of Greenville, died Jan. 9, 2006.

Born in Elberton County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Lee and Molly Adams Turner.

She was a former employee of J. P. Stevens Co. and was a member of Southside Fellowship.

Surviving are her husband, John B. Fowler Jr.; two daughters, Janis Kinard of Taylors, Jean Templeton of Mauldin; a son, Kenneth Atkins of Williamston; two brothers, Joel Turner of Georgia and Howard Turner of Ohio; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 11 at the Mackey Mortuary. Entombment followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoluem.


LAWRENCE F. CALHOUN

Lawrence F. “Cal” Calhoun, 51, of Pelzer, died Jan. 2, 2006 at his home.

He was employed with General Electric Turbine Plant.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 12 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, IN. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to the Ronald McDonald House.
