Ann Ruth Klaren Franks, 72, of Piedmont, widow of Richard Allen Franks, died December 31, 2007 at her home. Born in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Fred Otto Klaren and Lillie Mae Whittaker Klaren Herron. She retired from Cushman Mills and attended Lighthouse Christian Assembly. Surviving are a son, Richard Joseph Michael Franks of Reno, NV; four daughters; Karen Selfridge of Belton, Hilda Campbell of Greenwood, Donna Anderson of Cloquet, MN, Pam Bowers of Vancleave, MS; three sisters, Freda McCart of Atlanta, GA; Gertrude Noonchester of Hendersonville, NC, Helen Abby of Pendleton, OR; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her step-father, George Tony Herron. Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
PELZER - Hudgens Quincy Chapman, 92, husband of Hattie B. Hamby Chapman of 113 Williams Road, died Friday, January 4, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late David Vernon and Lola Cooley Chapman. He was retired after 40 years from the Kendall Company and was a member of Washington Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of the home, daughters, Emily McCall of Greenville, Brenda Roberts of Pelzer, Norma Jean Pickett of Piedmont; sister, Grace Mahaffey of Simpsonville; grandchildren, Robert Ross, Karen McNeely, Sharon Teague, Dana Ellinger, Douglas Roberts, Wendy Roache, Josh Browning, Jennifer Kartstetter, 14 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two infant sons, Daniel Chapman and Wilber Ray Chapman; and by sisters, Parrie Simpson, Ocie Mattison, Mae Brock and brothers, Earl Chapman, Frank Chapman, D.V. Chapman and Bill Chapman. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday at Washington Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Candler officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to services. Gray Mortuary served the family of Mr. Chapman.
Nancy Anne Brissey Stewart Crymes, 70, of Pelzer, widow of Troy Boob Crymes, Sr., died Jan. 5, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Herman David and Gert Lackey Brissey. She was a homemaker and a member of Eastview Baptist Church. Surviving are four sons, David Stewart of Piedmont, Robert Stewart of Simpsonville, Charlie Stewart of Greenville, Troy Crymes, Jr. of Fountain Inn; three daughters, Karen Vogann of Woodruff, Debbie Payne of Burlington, NC, Gwen Davis of Pelzer; brother, Michael David Brissey of Pelzer; 21 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Jan. 7 at Eastview Baptist Church.
Nov. 22, 1934 - Jan. 3, 2008 WEST PELZER, Wade Stroy Phillips, 73, husband of Joan Carolyn Poore Phillips of 9 Marguerite Street, died Thursday, January 3, 2008 at AnMed Health. Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Albert Leo and Ruby Edna Rogers Phillips. He was employed at Try-City Auto Parts, a former member of the National Guard, a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church, a former assistant Choir Director, former church custodian, Sunday School Secretary and Deacon. Surviving are his wife of the home; son, Todd Phillips of Williamston; daughter, Stacey Phillips of West Pelzer; two grandchildren, Noah Phillips and Windsor Phillips. He was predeceased by a grandson, Zachary Forrester and a sister, Nell Jean Presley. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at West Pelzer Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Smith officiating. Burial followed in Pine Lawn Cemetery. The family received friends 1:30 - 3p.m. Sunday at the church prior to services. Gray Mortuary served the family of Mr. Phillips.
James Stevens Steve Estes, Jr., 41, husband of Laurie Alberson Estes, of Piedmont, died Jan. 5, 2008. Born in Greenville, he was the son of James Stevens, Sr. and Jean Godfrey Estes of Pelzer. He was an employee of Benore Logistics Systems and a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Laurie Alberson Estes of the home; parents, James Stevens, Sr. and Jean Godfrey Estes of Pelzer; daughter, Jamie Morgan Estes of the home; granddaughter, Kristian Brienna May of the home; step-daughter, Amy Suzanne May of Piedmont; sisters, Michelle Estes Lester of Pelzer, Jackie Taylor of Piedmont. Funeral services were held Jan. 8 at Sandy Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
James Jimmy Clayton Dyar, 74, of Abbeville, died Jan. 5, 2008 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville. Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late John Ervin and Willie Mae Crocker Dyar. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired cabinet builder, and of the Baptist faith. He is survived by daughter, Debbie Kelley of Pelzer; sister, Sheryl Carmack of Lanett, AL; brother, Dennis R. Dyar of Williamston; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 9 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Cynthia Campbell Branyon Fleming, 78, of Honea Path, wife of Larry Fleming, died Jan. 5, 2008. Born in Abbeville County, she was the daughter of the late James Lewis and Olivia Smith Campbell. She was a member of Crossroads Fellowship Church and was retired from Dixie High School. She was twice married, first to the late Lynn F. Branyon. Surviving are her husband of the home; sons, Louie Branyon of Honea Path, Jack Branyon of Belton; step-son, Johnny Fleming of Johnston; daughters, Brenda Picklesimer of Piedmont, Kristie Keaton of Iva; step-daughter, Kathy Reedy of Johnston; brothers, Joe Campbell and Maxie Campbell of Honea Path, James Jim Campbell and Ed Campbell, of Belton; sister, Connie Sue Brock of Honea Path; 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 8 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories. Annie Elizabeth Roberts Galloway, 91, of Greenville, died Jan. 6, 2008. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late James Milton and Linnie Springfield Roberts and widow of E. Frank Galloway. Prior to her retirement she worked with the Food Services Division of the School District of Greenville County. She was a member of Dunean Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Rachel Timmerman of Pelzer; sister, Pauline Galloway of Pendleton; brother, Charles Roberts of Mooresville, NC; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held Jan. 8 at Dunean Baptist Church. Interment followed in Graceland West Cemetery.
Marilyn Louise Kuchta, 66, died Jan. 4, 2008. Born in New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Marion Molnar Volgyi. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and retired as Manager with Olin Mills. Surviving are a son, Frank Kuchta of Columbia; daughter, Laura Richard of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 8 at St. Josephs Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.
Alma Hazel Littlefield, 80, of Greenville, widow of William C. Hooper, died Jan. 5, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Ernest James Ross and Ethel Mason. She attended Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter, Alice Stack of Pelzer; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 7 in the chapel of Graceland Mortuary. Interment followed in Graceland Cemetery, White Horse Road.
Angela Martin McKinney, 55, of Piedmont died Jan. 4, 2008 at her home. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Joyce Manley Martin Smith of Easley, and the late Larry Martin. She was a dental hygienist with Dr. Richard Jacques and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to her mother are: her husband, Donald L. McKinney of the home; two sons, Timothy R. McKinney of Easley, and Brandon L. McKinney of Piedmont; sister, Jackie Rogers of Littleton, CO; and stepfather, Fred Smith of Easley. Funeral services were held Jan. 7 at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens in Easley. Anna Lee Davis Boiter, 70, of Piedmont, widow of Bobby Ray Boiter, died Jan. 6, 2008 at her home. Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late Alphonzo Buck and Lillie Robinson Davis. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are daughters, Teresa Towe, Darlene Impson, Christy Foster, all of Greenville, Anna Maria Boiter of the home; sons, Donny Ray Boiter of Piedmont, Jerry Wayne Boiter of Waco, NC; brothers, Bobby Buck Davis of Piedmont, Randy Davis of Pelzer, Pete Davis of Williamston; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Jan. 8 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Wayne Edward Pettigrew, 67, of Piedmont, died Jan. 6, 2008. Born in Iva, he was a son of Bertha Wiles Pettigrew and the late Clifford Pettigrew. He retired from Echols Oil Company as a driver and he was of the Baptist faith. Surviving in addition to his mother are a son, Wayne Pettigrew, II of Fountain Inn; sister, Mary Edna Chapman of Mauldin; and brother, Allan A. Pettigrew of Calhoun Falls. He was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine Morgan Pettigrew. Graveside services were held Jan. 9 in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Martha Roberta Allen Cheek, 91, of Hwy. 29 South, died Jan. 6, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Hart County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Millie Melissa Madden Allen. She was a retired substitute teacher in School District 5 and was a member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Jerry D. Cheek of Anderson; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; sister, Effie Gee Lee of Anderson; and two brothers, James Allen of Anderson and John I. Ben Allen of Piedmont. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Thomas Willard Cheek. Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel. Gertrude Myers Elrod Kay, 84, died Jan. 6, 2008 at her home. Born in Belton, she was the daughter of the late Elford and Rosa Lee Myers. She was a member of Orrville Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters, Ann Elrod Tinsley, Janice Elrod Lowe, Rhonda Kay Freeman, all of Anderson; Renee Kay Sharer of Florida; sons, Terry Elrod, Steve Kay, Mark Kay, all of Anderson, David Kay of West Pelzer; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Myers of Mauldin; brothers, Paul Myers of Conway, and Bobby Myers of Anderson. She was predeceased by her husbands, Albert Elrod and Dr. DeWitt L. Kay. Funeral services were held Jan. 9 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed in Old Silverbrook Cemetery.
Jack R. Porter, husband of Betty B. Porter of Simpsonville, died Jan. 6, 2008. Born in Asheville, NC, he was a son of the late Rufus Philip Porter and Juanita Freeman Porter. He retired as the Southeastern Regional Manager of Wick Building Systems and was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are: two sons, Steve Porter of Simpsonville and Joe Porter of Taylors; a brother, Clyde Porter of Pelzer; and six grandchildren.
Ethel Lorene Childers Posey, 84, of Piedmont, died January 7, 2008. Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Dean and LaDonia McNeely Childers and wife of the late John Tillman Posey. She retired from Norwich Pharmaceutical and was of the Pentecostal Faith. Surviving are two daughters, Judy Nelson and Susan Merritt, of Piedmont; and six grandchildren. Funeral service was held Jan. 9 at Living Sanctuary Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.Tiny Lollis Donald Tiny Lollis, 86, husband of Frances Nash Lollis, of Gray Court, died Jan. 7, 2008. He was born in Fountain Inn to the late Lonnie Lollis and Sally Owens Lollis. He retired from the J.P. Stevens Company - Watts Plant. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are, a daughter, Kathy McCall of Gray Court; a brother, Alvin Lollis of Piedmont; and one grandson. Funeral services were held Jan. 8 at Beulah Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Johnny Ray Coker, 51, of Simpsonville, died Jan. 7, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was a son of the late Furman and Mary Ann Phillips Coker. He was a construction worker. Surviving are two daughters, Andrea Sailers of Princeton and Kristine Sealy of Honea Path; a son, Johnny Ray Jr. of Easley; stepson, Brandon Raines of Liberty; three brothers, James A. Coker of Belton, Furman Coker Jr. of Laurens, Charlie Coker of Honea Path; four sisters, Mary Ellen Taylor of Piedmont, Shirley Davidson of Belton, Nancy McCall of Pendleton and Judy Elledge of Simpsonville; five grandchildren. Aug. 29, 1943 - Jan. 7, 2008 PELZER - Hershel Boss Hog Dyal, 64, husband of JoAnn Jordan Dyal, of 3 Smith Street, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Appling County, GA, he was a son of the late Leon Otis, Sr., and Sallie Mae Douglas Dyal. He was formerly employed by Baldor Reliance Electric and attended the Church of God of Prophecy. In addition to his wife, JoAnn Jordan Dyal of the home, he is survived by sons, Kenneth Hershel Dyal, David Delonigan Dyal, both of Williamston, John Geoffrey Dyal of Pelzer; sisters, Evelyn Jones of Pelzer, Colleen Miller, Trellis Patrick, Ella Mae Wrenn, all of Vidalia, GA; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Sula Thurston; and brother, Leon Otis Dyal, Jr. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Restoration Chapel Church of God of Prophecy in Williamston with the Rev. Ralph James and the Rev. Jerry Marcus officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Lawn Cemetery in Pelzer. The family is at the home and will receive friends 1:30 - 3 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service. Gray Mortuary, Pelzer is in charge of arrangements.
Cody Ellen Freeman Davis, 78, of Greenville, wife of Lawrence Eugene Davis, died Jan. 7, 2008 at St. Francis, Downtown. Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Wilton T. and Pauline Lesley Freeman. She retired from National Electric and was a member of Mauldin First Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to her husband are, three daughters, Karen D. Carter and Deborah D. Dobson, both of Simpsonville, and Jeannie D. Lynch of Greenville; two sons, Mark A. Davis of Greenville and Lawrence T. Davis of Simpsonville; four grandchildren; six sisters, Margie Jones of Liberty, Thelma Smith of Greenville, Evelyn Taylor of Mauldin, Carol Satterfield of Easley, Lenora McGraw of Piedmont and Joan Perzak of Greer; and four brothers, Clayton Freeman of Pelzer, Herbert Freeman and Lesley Freeman, both of Mauldin and Rodney Freeman of Little Rock, Arkansas. Visitation will be held Jan. 10 from 11:30 to 1:15 p.m. at Mauldin First Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park.
