Doris Whitmire Nichols, of Greenville, died Jan. 16, 2008 at Riverside Living Center in Piedmont. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Harold D. and Mary Freeman Whitmire. She retired from Southern Bell Telephone and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Gene Nichols of Piedmont; a sister, Mary Ruth Moore of Greenville; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 18 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery West in Greenville. Dora Boiter Sherman, 85, widow of William Fonner Sherman, Jr., died Jan. 15, 2008 at NHC Health Care of Mauldin. Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late James Dendy and Ludie Bolt Boiter. She retired from Southern Bell and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont. She is survived by a sister, Mary Lou Boiter Patton of Fountain Inn. Funeral services were held Jan. 18 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.W/PIC
WILLIAMSTON - Kathryn Elaine Knowlton Dean, 69, wife of Fay Lawrence Dean, Sr., of 62 Allie Campbell Road, died Thursday, January 17, 2008, at her home. Born in Binghamton, New York, she was a daughter of the late Walter Frank and Helen Krowinkle Knowlton. She retired from Anderson Memorial Hospital. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Walter Dean of Moncks Corner, Larry Dean (Debra) of Williamston, Frank Dean (Cynthia) of Powdersville; daughters, Debra Dean of Duncan, Linda Vaughn (Tim) of Simpsonville, Lori Gregory and Dale Sulfridge of St. Charles, MO, Tammy Powell (Sammy) of Pickens; brothers, Roy Twinning, Fred Knowlton, Dennis Knowlton, all of Clifford, PA, Donald Twinning of South Gibson, PA; sisters, Loretta Tuckey of Oneonta, NY, Irene Demnovich of Forest City, PA, Marion Manzer of Scranton, PA, Jane Wesimer of Allentown, PA, Cindy Taylor of Jermyn, PA; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. January 19 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Graceland East Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 18 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
PIEDMONT - Robert Martin Ensley, 79, husband of Annette Lillian Bracken Ensley, of 501 Saluda Drive, died Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Pelzer, he was son of the late Robert and Bessie Rainey Ensley. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired from Fiber Industries, and a member of River Road Baptist Church. He loved the Palmetto Mustangs and was a Past President of the Palmetto High School Athletic Booster Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Lynn Ballard of Pelzer; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Joan Ensley of Lyman; sister, Martha McCoy of Williamston; grandchildren, Shannon Ensley and his wife Michelle, Jeffrey Ballard, Rosita Ballard, Maria Patterson; and a special great-grandson, Thomas Nelson Ensley. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Marshall. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Jan. 19 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Bill Bryant, Mr. Lynn Ballard, and Mr. Sammy Horne, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson. The family was at the home of Debbie and Lynn Ballard, 505 Shaded Acre Court, Pelzer and received friends Jan. 19 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. BELTON - Haley Anna Taylor, 14, of 1306 Cannon Bottom Road, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of Jeffrey Darren and Tonya Garrett Taylor. She was a 9th grade student at Palmetto High School and a member of the high school chorus. She was also a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer and the church mission team. In addition to her parents, she is survived by brother, Travis Taylor; sister, Alli Taylor, all of the home; grandmothers, Dorothy Garrett Philllips of Williamston, Wilma Taylor of Pelzer; step-grandfather, Harold Phillips of Williamston; and great-grandmothers, Kathryn Waters of Pelzer, and Sybil Garrett of Belton. She was predeceased by grandfathers, Jim Taylor, Chip Garrett; and great-grandfathers, Alvin Garrett, Sr., and J.B. Waters. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer with the Rev. Billy Slatten officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home and will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
Maynard Luis Lancaster, 49, of Easley, died Jan. 18, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville, he was a son of Maynard and Maria Robles Lancaster. He was a mortgage banker and a Catholic. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Linda Masters Lancaster of the home; one step-son, Scott Whitman of Easley; two step-daughters, Tammy Clark of Six Mile and Ronda Ambrose of Williamston; two brothers, Rudolph Lancaster of West Covina, California and Frederic Lancaster of Columbia, Maryland; one sister, Margaret Wardell of Fontana, California; and two grandsons. Funeral services were held Jan. 22 in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Louise Kay Gilbert, 77, of Anderson, widow of James Edward Gilbert, died Jan. 18, 2008 at NHC of Anderson. Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Julia Rogers Kay. She retired from Orr-Lyons Mill. She was a member of Asbury Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Mike and Eddie Gilbert, both of the home; two daughters, Patsy Makison of Anderson and Marie Gilbert of the home; three grandsons; three sisters, Linda McWhorter of Pendleton, Margaret Graham of Charlotte, NC and Martha Kay of Sandy Springs; and a brother, Mac Kay of Pelzer. Funeral services were held Jan. 20 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northwest Chapel. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Florence Epps Hudson, 91, of Greenville, widow of Jessie Hudson, died Jan. 16, 2008 at St. Francis, Downtown. Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late J.W. and Hester McClellan Epps. She was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Ronnie Hudson of Greenville; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and a sister, Fannie Mae Porter of Pelzer. Graveside services were held Jan. 18 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
