RALPH LINDSEY

Ralph Edwin Lindsey, 80, husband of Ella Mae Roach Lindsey, of Piedmont, died Jan. 27, 2006 at Westside Living Center in Greenville.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Perry Earl and Mamie Moon Lindsey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired from Woolworth Distribution Center, and was a member of Grove Station Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by a son, Michael Lindsey; a daughter, Linda Thompson, both of Piedmont; sisters, Elizabeth Wheatley and Hazel Burns, both of Greenville, and Frances Slatton of Columbia; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 29 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


ROBERT ‘BOB’ THOMPSON

Robert “Bob” Alexander Thompson, 72, of Pelzer, husband of Mallie Alberson Thompson, died Jan. 27, 2006 at his home.

Born in Fredricksburg, KY, he was the son of the late William Lloyd and Martha Mandisa Wheatley Thompson.

He was a retired business owner and a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. He was a United States Air Force veteran.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Diane T. Scott of Mechanicsville, VA, Theresa T. Galloway of Piedmont, Pamela T. Cockcroft of Duncan; three sisters, Molly Thompson of Bargetown, KY, Betty Ludlow of Louisville, KY, Charlotte Thompson of Boston, MA; a brother, Bernard Thompson of Lexington, KY; and nine grandchildren.

A Vigil service was held Jan. 29 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. A Funeral Mass was held Jan. 30 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Interment followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


JOE E. WEBB

Joe Earl Webb, 80, of Belton, died Jan. 27, 2006 at his home.

Born in Anderson, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglas and was active in the family business, J.T.’s Family Restaurant and was a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Kirby Webb of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Earl Webb of Belton and Danny Joe Webb of Anderson; one daughter, Angie Reed of Winchester, VA; one step-daughter, Terri Smith of Belton; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and Kelsey Mattson who was reared in the home. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was the son of the late Lucius Hammond and Lena Ebernickle Webb.

Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel. Burial with military honors followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


H. FRED KIMBALL

Harold Fred Kimball, 58, of Piedmont, husband of Kimberly Clark Kimball, died Jan. 28, 2006 at Anderson Area Medical Center.

He was born in Virginia Beach, VA and was the son of the late Joyce McMahon Kimball. He was employed by Showpros Entertainment Services. He was a member of Powdersville Community Church.

Surviving in additon to his wife and father is a sister, Gale Garner ofTaylors.

Funeral services were held Jan. 31 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.

Memorials may be made to the Anderson County Humane Society, 5030 White City Park Road, Anderson, SC 29625.


MARY ELLEN NEWTON

Mary Ellen Robinson Newton, 80, of Piedmont, died Jan. 28, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Maggie Lee Thrift Robinson. She was retired from the Hav-a-Hank Company and was a member of Piedmont Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Willis H. Newton of the home a brother, Bud Robinson of Greenville; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 31 at Westviel Funerals and Cremations in Greenville. Interment followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.


GRACE RAINEY

Grace Young Rainey, 84, widow of Blease W. Rainey, formerly of Pelzer, died Jan. 30, 2006 at Ellenburg Nursing Center in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late James Earnest and Alice Rogers Young. She was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Bill Rainey of Easley, Wade Rainey of West Pelzer, Don Rainey of Easley; daughter, Frances R. Fricks of Williamston; sisters, Nell Black of Anderson, Louise Bannister of Atlanta, GA, Betty Ford of Belton; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.  Feb. 2 at Tabernacle Baptist Church.

FLORA POOLE

Flora Jane Coggins Poole, 61, of Greer, died Jan. 30, 2006 at her home.

A native of Greenville County, daughter of the late Larkin and Jessie Estelle Timmons Coggins, she was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, James C. Poole of the home; a daughter, Darlene Curtis of Greer; a brother, Larkin Edward Coggins of Piedmont; a sister, Elsie Jones of Piedmont; and one grandson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

THOMAS F. HINDMAN, JR.

Thomas “Tom” Felton Hindman, Jr., 53, died Jan. 30, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Augusta, GA, he was a son of the late Thomas Felton, Sr. and Wylene Carter Hindman.

He is survived by daughter, Rachel Scarlett Hindman of Taylors; brother, Ed Hindman of Anderson; sister, June Oliver of Hoschton, GA.

Graveside services will be held Feb. 2 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.


MYRL BOZEMAN

Myrl Elizabeth Bozeman, 86, wife of L. R. “Roy” Bozeman of Anderson, died Jan. 24, 2006 at Anderson Place.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late E. C. Griffith and the late L. B. Griffith.  She was a retired seamstress and was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband; sons, Jerry Bozemen of Kansas and Chris Bozeman of Mount Pleasant; sister, Sybil Smith of Pelzer; two grandchildren;  and two step-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at Pope Drive Baptist Church. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

ELOISE ELIZABETH HARRIS

Eloise E. Harris, 76, wife of the late Joseph Harris, died Jan. 24, 2006 at HospiceCare of the Piedmont, Greenwood.

Born in Oconee, she was a daughter of Ollie Carroll Morgan of Iva and the late Charles Andrew Morgan.

Surviving are children, Sherry Scotland of Anderson, Timothy Harris of McCormick and Freddie Harris of Aiken; four grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Eugene Morgan, Arlon Morgan, Janet Hill, all of McCormick, Edward Morgan of Anderson, Max Morgan of Hartwell, GA, Linda Nichols of Princeton, WV, and Clyde Morgan of Piedmont.

No services are planned.


FLOYD DONALD GARRETT

Floyd Donald Garrett, 70, of Greenville, husband of Mary Corn Garrett, died Jan. 24, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Ware Shoals, he was the son of the late Floyd Hampton and Inez Tumblin Garrett.

He was the retired owner of Mauldin Loan Office and was a member of Mauldin United Methodist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife are two daughters, Karen Long of Laurens and Cynthia Lee Farmer of Easley; two sons, Jeffery Neal Garrett of Greenville and Donald Gregory Garrett of Piedmont; a sister, Elizabeth Pack of Piedmont; three brothers, James Michael Garrett of Greenville, and Ricky Allen Garrett and Dicky Edgar Garrett, both of Piedmont; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at Mauldin United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

SYLVESTER DEAN

Sylvester Dean, 66, of Williamston, died Jan. 25, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, he was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church in Belton and a former textile worker.

Surviving are his wife, Etrulia Lovelist Dean of the home; daughter, Melinda Ann Dean of Williamston; step-daughters, Bettye Cannon and Victoria Lewis, both of Williamston; son, Anthony Veton Dean of Williamston; stepson, John Wesley Sloan; sister, Myrdis Jones of Williamston; brother, Marcus Dean of Pelzer; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Jack and Myrdis Earle Dean.

Funeral services were held Jan. 28 at New Hopewell Baptist Church, Belton. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


LINDA RUTH

Linda Sue Waters Williams Ruth, 50, wife of Tony Ruth, Sr. of Belton, died Jan. 25, 2006 in Anderson.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of Eunice Terry Bryson of Belton and the late John “J.L.” Waters.

She was a homemaker and a member of Little Holiness Church of God.

Surviving are her husband, Tony Ruth Sr. of the home; mother, Eunice Terry Bryson of Belton; step-father, Charles William Bryson and step-mother, Elizabeth Young Waters of Williamston; sons, John Williams of Belton; daughter, Misty Williams Byrd of Belton; step-son, Tony Ruth Jr. of Belton; step-brother, Robert “Robbie” Crocker of Belton; step-sisters, Jo Patterson of Level Land and Janice Bridges of Williamston; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 28 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Entombment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.


SANDRA CHRISTINE SMITH

Sandra Christine Smith, 69, of Iva, died Jan. 25, 2006 at AnMed Health Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Barney Blease and Vera Thompson Smith. She was a member of Belton Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are daughters, Wanda E. Gwinn of Tennessee, Kathy L. Clay of Georgia and Connie F. Smith of Williamston; sons, Randy Smith of Belton and Curtis R. Smith of Williamston; a brother, Wilton Ray Smith of Woodruff; a sister, Avis Lynn Stone of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 28 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Garden of Memories.


GLORIS ‘LUCY’ MASSINGILL

Gloris “Lucy” Sweezy Massingill, 71 of Easley, died Jan. 25, 2006 at her home.

Born in Gaffney, a daughter of the late Calvin Wesley and Pauline Gentry Sweezy, she retired from Dayco Corporation and was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Pam Duncan of Sunset, and Gwen Satterfield of Hope Mills, NC; a brother, William George Sweezy of Piedmont; a sister, Patsy Heaton of Snellville, GA; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 29 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

MICHAEL E. FOWLER

Michael E. Fowler, 58, of Piedmont, husband of Sherriell Ann Smith Fowler, died Jan. 29, 2006.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of Roberta Richey Fowler of Easley an the late Thomas Raymond Fowler.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam. He was employed at Canteen and Electrolux Co. in Anderson. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are three sons, T. Ralph Fowler of Greenville, Christopher E. Fowler of Maryland, and Michael Chad Fowler of Easley; eight grandchildren; sisters, Susan Grimes of Easley, Cheryle Whitman of Greenville.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.
