Gertrude Thompson Pitts Inness, 100, of Hickory Tavern, widow of Ralph D. Inness, died Jan. 22, 2008 at her home. She was first married to Reuben A. Pitts. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew B. and Minnie Adair Thompson. She was a homemaker and member of Union Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons, Rev. Earl Pitts of Pelzer, Howard Pitts and Billy Joe Pitts, both of Laurens; a stepdaughter, Louise Woods of Fountain Inn; one sister, Idelle T. Peden of Fountain Inn; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held January 24 at Union Baptist Church. Burial followed in Friendship Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Laurens County, P.O. William Glenn Ellison, 74, husband of Nora Louise Motes Ellison of Belton, died Jan. 22, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Foster and Clara Holland Ellison. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are; son, Craig Ellison of W. Pelzer; daughters, Debbie Kaser of Belton and Vickie White of Lexington; brother, Larry Ellison of Sandy Springs; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Jan. 25 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
Gladys K. Johnson, 73, of Greenville, died Jan. 20, 2008. She was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Charles Johnson of Travelers Rest; sons, Jeffery Glover Jr., Fredrick Glover of Newark, NJ, James Johnson Jr. of Piedmont, Ronald Johnson of Greenville; daughters, Sharon McCullough of Piedmont, Gwendolyn Duckett of Charlotte, NC, Cynthia Neely, Sylvia JOhnson, Janice Johnson, all of Greenville, and Felicia Douglas of Easley; sisters, Mildred Smith of Lt. Kentucky and Janet McQueen of New York; brother, Billy Kenner of New York; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 26 at Webb-Settles Funeral Home. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Ada L. Hall, 88, of Anderson, died Jan. 25, 2008 at NHC of Anderson. Born in Newport, TN, she was a daughter of the late George and Elmer McNabe Lewis and wife of the late Ben D. Hall, Sr. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Poinsett Mill. She was a member of Mt. Creek Baptist Church of Anderson. Surviving are three sons, Ben Dewey Hall, Jr. of Greenville, John A. Hall of Anderson and Jack Hall of Travelers Rest; two sisters, Nell Wicks of Piedmont and Dora Lee Farley of Clarksville, TN; a brother, Jack Lewis of Arkansas; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held Jan. 28 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.
Tillman Stacy Junior Ayers, Jr., 83, of Pelzer, died Jan. 24, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville County, he was son of the late Tillman Stacy, Sr. and Pearle Allen Ayers. He was formerly a dispatcher for the Williamston Police Department. He was a member of Washington Baptist Church in Pelzer. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at Washington Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Washington Baptist Church Vision Quest, 208 Washington Church Road, Pelzer, SC.
Alberta Rosemond Mayes, 100, of Greenville, died Jan. 24, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Louise Higdon Rosemond. Surviving are sons, James Billy, Thomas B. and Ted E. Mayes, all of Greenville; sister, Martha Grace Dirton of Piedmont; 15 grandchildren. Funeral service was held Jan. 28 at St. Matthews Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Claudine Claude Anderson, 96, husband of the late Jessie Mattison Cureton, died January 24, 2008. He was born in Anderson County, son of the late Jay and Jeanetta (Warnick) Anderson and retired from the Kendall Company. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Surviving are; sister, Gennieve Dotson; brother, Lander T. Anderson; step-sister, Sallie Mae Elrod; six children, Jennie Lou, Margaret Estella, Gwendolyn Lee, Robbie Thomasina, Claude Dennis and Joyce Linda; twenty grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at New Prospect Baptist Church in Williamston. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Eva MayBell Walker, 72, of Greenville, died Jan. 28, 2008. Born in Belton, she was a daughter of the late George U. Kelly and Ethel C. Hicks Kelly and wife of the late Harold Raymond Walker, Sr. She retired from Kemet and was a former member of Tremont Church of God. Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Walker Morgan of Greenville; three sons, Harold R. Walker, Jr. of Mauldin, Rickey Walker and Rodney N. Walker, both of Greenville; five sisters, Jewel Layman of Liberty, Shirley Sprauge, Ethelene Tollison and Joan Tollison of Piedmont, and Janice Sullivan of Fair Play; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
