Tony Lewis Bragg, 46, of Williamston, died Feb. 1, 2006.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Roy Lee Bragg of Greer and Bettie Joe Moore Burgess of the home.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Ashley Bragg of Greenville; brothers, Larry S. Bragg, Walter Thompson, Kenneth Keller; and sisters, Kathy Jo Bragg and Tammy Margaret Clark.

Graveside services were held Feb. 3 at Old Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson.


BOBBY JOHN COBB

Bobby John Cobb, 75, of Pelzer, widower of Shelby Jean Owen Cobb, died Jan. 31, 2006 at Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Lewis Cobb and Annie Posey Cobb.

He was retired from Wamsutta Mills and was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Surviving are stepdaughters, Peggy Suggs and Diane Caldwell, both of Columbia; brothers, Franklin Cobb of Whitt, TX and William Cobb of Edgewood, TX; sisters, Deeva Swaney of Anderson and Ruby Barry of Pelzer; half-sister, Vera Mae Childress of Greenville; and several step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 3 in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.


DAVID HENDRICKS

David Bruce Hendricks, 42, husband of Brenda Calkins, died Jan. 31, 2006.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of Anita Stokes Basinger of Easley and the late David Ray Hendricks. He was employed by Steel Summit Holding Plant in Greenville and was a member of Arial Baptist Church in Easley.

In addition to his wife of the home and mother of Easley, he is survived by his step-father, Jay Basinger of Easley; step-son, Trey Calkins of the home; and sister, Sandra Nalley of Easley.

Funeral services were held Feb. 4 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

ROBERT JAMES MURPHY

Robert James Murphy, 81, of Piedmont, died Feb. 2, 2006.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Fitzhugh Lee Murphy and Beryl Frances Couch Murphy and was the husband of the late Jessie Osbourne Murphy.

He served in the U.S. Army and retired as a self-employed brick mason. He was a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Dianne M. Medlin of Easley, Patricia M. Crocker of Pelzer, and Julia A. Murphy and Deborah B. Murphy, both of the home; a brother, Kenneth Murphy of West Columbia; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 5 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


MARY GEETER

Mary Helen Powell Geeter, 67, of Toccoa, GA, died Feb. 2, 2006 at her home.

Born in Chambers County, AL, she was employed with Toccoa Manufacturing and was a member of the Salvation Army.

Surviving are her daughters, Juanita Lathan and Deborah Brown, both of Toccoa, Kay Ramey of Carnesville; sons, Jimmy Lee Geeter of Martin and Billy Geeter of Pelzer; sisters, Francis Collins and Lou Rose Powell, both of Toccoa; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Thomas Geeter Jr. and the daughter of the late General and Lucille Harmon Powell.

Graveside services were held Feb. 5 at the Grey Hill cemetery in LaGrange.


ROY COKER

Roy Earl Coker, 67, of Pelzer, husband of Barbara Ann Duncan Coker, died Feb. 3, 2006 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was son of the late Ellie Roy and Grace Ellison Coker. He was owner and operator of Coker’s Meats and Processing and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Piedmont.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are, daughter, Rita Coker Freeman of Pelzer; sons, Eddie Coker and Ronnie Coker, both of Pelzer; sister, Joyce Norwood of Simpsonville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 6 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


ARLENE S. HAMMOND

Arlene Smith Hammond, 57, of Williamston, died Feb. 4, 2006 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Gastonia, NC, she was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Phillip Hammond of the home; son, Lee Barnes of Gastonia; one grandson; mother, Thelma Leatherman Smith of Mt. Holly, NC; sister, Renee Dar of Gastonia, NC; two brothers, Tim Smith and Roger Smith, both of Dallas, NC.

She was a daughter of the late Warren Smith.

Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel. Burial followed in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.


LINDA EMERY

PELZER - Linda Gayle Ragsdale Emery, 61, of 9 Blake Street, died Friday, February 3, 2006 at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late C. H. and Lilith Wright Ragsdale. She was a substitute Elementary School Teacher and a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith Church.

Surviving are two sons, Greg Emery and Charles Emery, both of Pelzer; two sisters, Sharon Davenport of Pelzer and Mary Miller of Piedmont; four brothers, Larry Ragsdale, Kenneth Ragsdale, Tim Ragsdale of Pelzer, Rick Ragsdale of Williamston; four grandchildren, Justin Emery, John Emery, Mikey Burns, Michelle Burns; and greatgrandchildren, Ashton Hawkins and Jaden Hawkins.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Feb. 6 at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Ed Bender officiating.

The family was at the home of Charles Emery, 12 Allen Street, Pelzer and received friends Sunday at Gray Mortuary.

HOWARD M. LEE

Howard M. Lee was born in Peaonian Springs, VA to Jonathan and Mary Lee on June 25, 1930. He had nine siblings: Alice, Carolyn, Ellen, Fannie, Joanne, Peggy, Arthur, Jonathan, and Vernelle. He was educated in the public school of Leesburg, VA.

Howard served his country as an Airman in the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in South Carolina, Howard married Joyce B. Tucker and she gave birth to their two sons Howard Jonathan Lee and Michael Augustus Lee. He was an excellent provider, loving husband and father. He also loved and raised his nephew Arthur Brown Lee.

Howard left the Air Force to work 40 years as a horse Farrier and Trainer. On the personal side, Howard enjoyed his family, horses, and baseball. He brought forth much laughter with his often unexpected humor.

Left to cherish fond memories: his sisters, Alice Brown and Joanne Carter; his wife, Joyce B. Lee, formerly of Williamston; his sons, Howard and Michael Lee, and his adopted son, Arthur Lee; his daughter-in-laws, Carol and Silvia; his grandchildren; two 1st cousins; great-grandchildren; his Godchild; his four nephews; host of nieces, relatives and friends.


KATHY G. ELY

Kathy Elaine Garren Ely, 51, wife of Thomas E. ely, of Piedmont, died Feb. 6, 2006 at her home.

She was born in Easley to Jack Garren of Easley and the late Katerine Berryhill Hendericks. She was an employee of Hope Lumber Company of Spartanburg and was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Easley.

Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are, a son, Eric Ely of Marietta; a brother, Mike Garren of Easley; sisters, Rae Duncan of Easley and Jackie Gilreath of Liberty; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 9 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.


JAMES ACKER

James A. Acker, 83, of Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home died Feb. 4, 2006.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Lawrence Acker and Meda Acker.

Funeral services were held Feb. 8 at The Unity Mortuary chapel of Williamston.


CAROL B. KING

Carol B. King, 51, died Feb. 4, 2006 at home.

She was born in Greenville County to the late Truman and Evelyn Simmons of Piedmont. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are a daughter of the home, Maria B. Ballard; a son, Benjamin J. Barbee; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. at Beech Springs Tabernacle in Ware Place.


RUBY SCOGGIN LEDFORD

Ruby Scoggin Ledford, 87, of Piedmont, died Feb. 6, 2006 in the Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Guilford College, NC, she was the daughter of the late Rev. John Allen and Mary Westmoreland Scoggin. She retired from Franklin Processing Co. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Elbert M. Ledford of the home; three daughters, Harriet L. Mahaney of Lawrenceville, GA, Patricia L. Gray of Piedmont, and Rhonda L. Patterson of Simpsonville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Eunice S. Stribling of Columbia, and Emily S. Kline of Highlands, CA.

Funeral services will be held Feb. 9 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Feb. 9 from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Bethesda United Methodist Church, 501 Piedmont Highway, Easley, SC 29642.


RUTH WHITT EADES

Ruth Whitt Eades, age 86, of Okeechobee, formerly of Pelzer, SC, died Wed., Feb. 1, 2006 in Okeechobee.

Ms. Eades was born Sept. 9, 1919 to John David and Maude Whitt. She was retired from Burdines, having come to Florida from South Carolina in 1947. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee.

Ms. Eades is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth (Tony) Anascavage of Okeechobee; three sons, William (Cheryl) Eades of Miami, John R. (Gail) Eades of Belton, SC, and Harry (Aimee) Marsh of Eustis; five granddaughters, Terri (Joe) Helfinstine, Cheryl Ann Eades, Jeannie (Steve) Storey, Tracye (James) Mickel, and Stacy (Dean) Christophers; two grandsons, Clifford (Kristy) Marsh and Allan Marsh; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Nichols and Nancy Lorenz both of Piedmont, SC; and two brothers, William Whitt of Piedmont and Joel (Thula) Whitt of Belton, SC.

Memorials may be made to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, 900 NW 17th St., Miami, FL 33136.

Visitation was Friday, Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with funeral services immediately after at 11 a.m. Interment followed at Ortona Cemetery. Pastor Randy Huckabee from the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee officiated.

All arangements are entrusted to the loving care of Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory.


BOB BALLARD

May 31, 1962 - February 6, 2006

PIEDMONT, SC - Robert “Bob” Scott Ballard, 43, of 105 Congaree Court, widower of Melody Jones Ballard, died on Monday, February 6, 2006 at Easley Baptist Hospital.

A native of Greenville, SC, he was a son of Norma Dressler Ballard of Piedmont and the late Reuben Heyward Ballard. He was a 1980 graduate of Wren High School, where he lettered in basketball. He received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Clemson University in 1984, and his MBA from Clemson University in 1993.

Mr. Ballard was Director of Business Development for Aeronix, Inc., where he was instrumental in developing the ZIPIT Instant Messaging Device. He was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith where he was a former deacon and served as Vice-Chairman of the Church Board. In addition, he served as Vice-President of the Atlanta Bible College Foundation in Morrow, GA.

In addition to his mother of Piedmont, he is survived by his children, Cayce Elizabeth Ballard, Robert Samuel “Sam” Ballard, Jacob Austin “Jake” Ballard, all of the home; sister, Susan Ballard “Sue” Hilton and her husband Bill, Jr. of York, SC; brothers, Stephen Heyward “Steve” Ballard and his wife Linda of Easley, SC, Daniel Nolan “Dan” Ballard of Mauldin, SC, Reuben Wesley “Wes” Ballard and his wife Annetta of Williamston, SC; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dave and Rebecca Dauksas of Pelzer, Timothy and Beth Jones of Morrow, GA; step-father-in-law, Pastor Jim Mattison; and seven nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of twenty-one years, Melody Jones Ballard.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith with Pastor Mike Montgomery officiating. The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service.
