Wayne H. Haynes, Jr., 78, of Easley, died Jan. 29, 2007 at his home. Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Wayne H. and Velma Ward Haynes, Sr., he retired from Penske Trucking Company and was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Priscilla Kelley Haynes of the home; a son, Larry W. Haynes of Powdersville; six daughters, Tammy Lockee, Sandra burger, Vickie Trotter and Diane Cooper, all of Powdersville, Debra Shumaker of Piedmont and Shirley Smith of Pelzer; four brothers, Randy, Mike, Allen and Pat Haynes, all of Williamston; six sisters, Allene and Eleanor Lobsco, both of California, Linda Motes of Anderson, Joyce Wilkerson of Williamston, Frances League of Easley and Faye Harris of Greenville; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 31 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens, Easley. Clarence Oliver Selman, 84, husband of Emma Lou Staggs Selman, formerly of Williamston, died Jan. 31, 2007 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Oliver Washington and Mattie Hamby Selman. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, retired from the Kendall Company, and a farmer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Shirley Selman Phillips of Belton, Robbie Selman Cordell of Williamston; sons, Buddy Ray Selman, Charles Selman, Dallas Selman, all of Williamston; sister, Louise Selman of Williamston; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Feb. 3 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.
John Frank Seawright, 79, of Pelzer, died Jan. 31, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late Robert Newton and Grace Shirley Seawright. He was a U.S. Army veteran and formerly employed by J.P. Stevens, Estes Plant. Surviving are brother, Walter T. Seawright of Pelzer; sisters, Ollie Ruth Henderson of Greer, and Sarah Davis of Easley. Funeral services were held Feb. 2 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Piedmont. March 25, 1942 - January 31, 2007 WILLIAMSTON, SC - Sylvia Faye Huff Owens, 64, wife of James D. Owens, of 2 West Fourth Street, died Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Anderson County, SC, she was a daughter of the late David and Hazel Timms Huff. She was a homemaker and a member of Williamston Church of God where she was church pianist and taught Sunday School throughout her life. In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, James Marlon Owens; daughter, Regina Owens Kotlowski; brother, Kenneth D. Huff; sisters, Jeanette Gilley, Rebecca Briggs; grandchildren, Nicholas Owens, Cynthia Welborn, Donald Kotlowski, Ashley Owens, Justin Owens; and great-grandchildren, Jonny Welborn and Matthew Welborn. She was predeceased by a son, Dendy Owens and sister, Betty Jordan. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at Williamston Church of God with the Rev. Michael Hanley officiating. Burial followed at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family is at the home and received friends 6-8 p.m. Feb. 2 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Myrtle Lipscomb Kerr, 95, of Williamston, wife of the late Henry W. Kerr, died Feb. 1, 2007 at Ellenburg Nursing Center in Anderson. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the McDougald Funeral Home.
Floyd Lynil Brown, 72, of West Pelzer, died Feb. 1, 2007 at his home. Born in Gaffney, he was a son of the late Arthur Lee and Lizzie Bright Brown. He was an employee of Big Zacks Fireworks in Anderson. Surviving are children, Fonda Sisson of Greenville, Floyd Lynil Brown Jr., of Cocoa Beach, FL, Fran Sanders of Simpsonville, and Faye Beck of Greer; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral services were held Feb. 3 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Graceland East Memorial Park.
Rushton Owens Sr., 77, of Williamston, died Jan. 27, 2007 at his home. Born in Anderson County, he was the widower of the late Florine D. Owens. He was a member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, retired from J.P. Stevens Estes Plant and owner and operator of Owens Floor Sanding Services. Funeral services were held Feb. 3 at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Williamston. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
William Doyle Walls, 69, husband of Gloria Ashley Walls, of Belton, died Feb. 2, 2007 at his home. Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late R.E. and Dora Mae Cheek Walls. He was employed by Gray Mortuary, Pelzer and attended Grace Baptist Church in Honea Path. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Cindy Farrow of Belton, Tammie Sutherland of Williamston; brothers, Dewitt Walls, R.E. Bud Walls, Jr., both of Anderson; sisters, Willeen Bridges, Sue Walls, Claudia Stephens, Ella Gentry, all of Anderson, Peggy Brooks, Jean Webb, both of Belton; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held Feb. 5 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Garden of Memories in Belton.
Charles Norman Cobb, 61, of Simpsonville, died Feb. 2, 2007 at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson. Born in Pelzer, he was a son of Margaret Teague Cobb of West Pelzer and the late John Andrew Cobb, Sr. He retired from Fiber Industries, was currently employed by Stanco Metal Products, Inc. and was a Presbyterian. In addition to his mother, he is survived by daughter, Tina Renee Cobb of Anderson; sisters, Phyllis Simpson of West Pelzer, Angela Cox of Piedmont; and a brother, John A. Cobb, Jr. of Piedmont. Funeral services were held Feb. 5 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Nancy Faye Cason Hiott, 90, of Pelzer, widow of Doyle Alvin Hiott, died Feb. 3, 2007 at her home. Born in Six Mile, she was daughter of the late Dr. William Wid Franklin, DVM and Ada McCoy Cason. She was a former dietician at Palmetto High School and a member of Mt. Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Larry A. Hiott of the home; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Feb. 6 at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Lavinia Gossett McDill, 83, of Due West, widow of John W. McDill Sr., died Feb. 1, 2007 at National Health Care in Greenwood. Born in Williamston, she was the daughter of the late Paul Henry and Julia Pinckney Gossett. She was a librarian for Dixie High School and the Abbeville County Library System. She was a member of the Due West ARP Church. Surviving are her son, John W. McDill Jr.; two grandchildren; and sister, Julia Mize of Williamston. Graveside services were held Feb. 4 at Due West ARP Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Due West ARP Church, P.O. Box 397, Due West, SC 29639.
Beverly Bev. A. Winter, 62, of Taylors, died Jan. 31, 2007 at Hospice House in Cleveland, OH. She was born in Charleston to the late H. Frank and Virginia Poston. She was employed with Olsten Temporary Services in Greenville and was a member of First Christian Church. Surviving are her husband, John Jack Winter; daughter, Annette Mason of Piedmont, son, Stephen Winter of Greer; seven grandchildren; sister, Carey Gillespie of Spartanburg; and brother, Larry Poston of St. George Island, FL. Funeral service was held Feb. 7 at First Christian Church in Greenville. Interment followed at Graceland East Memorial Gardens, Simpsonville.
Louvenia Viola Brock, of Greenville, died Feb. 2, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Viola Chapman Williams. Surviving are daughters, Dianne Williams and Denise Henderson of Greenville; sons, James Brock and Suber Mohammad of Greenville; sisters, Dot Nash of Piedmont and Lois Sweeney of Greenville; brother, Harold Williams of Piedmont; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Feb. 6 at Long Branch Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Donald Earl Bray, 73, husband of Dianne Hill Bray, died Feb. 3, 2007 at her home. Born in Artemus, KY, son of the late William Earl and Elsie Bays Bray, he served in the U.S. Air Force, was retired from AT&T and was a member of Woodruff Road Christian Church. Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, Patricia Cooper of Gorham, ME; stepdaughter and stepson, Yvonne Lyons of Piedmont and Robert Lyons of Piedmont; and five grandchildren. Memorial service was held Feb. 6 at Woodruff Road Christian Church.
Franklin Conway Carter, of Greenville, died Feb. 3, 2007 at his home. Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Franklin Elwood and Vivian Elnora Chaney Carter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving are sisters, Mary Wiggins of Greenville, Elinor Greene of Pelzer, Carolyn Donald of Simpsonville and Debra Martin of Taylors; and brothers, Sloan and Kenneth Carter, both of the home. Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Mary Elizabeth Lequire Staggs, 62, of Lyman, died Feb. 5, 2007 at her home. A native of Greenville, daughter of the late Lucille Williams Lequire, she was retired from textiles and attended Little Mountain Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, James A. Staggs Sr. of the home; two sons, Curtis Jerome Staggs of Spartanburg and James A. Staggs Jr. of the home; a sister, Carol L. Burgess of Taylors; four brothers, Leroy Williams of Georgia, Wayne Lequire and Jerry Lequire, both of Greer, and James Lequire of Williamston; and three grandchildren. Hazel Marie Kuykendall Williams, 80, wife of James E. Williams, of Pelzer, died Feb. 6, 2007 at her home. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Richard F. and Mary Myrtle Harvey Kuykendall. She was a homemaker and a member of New Life Tabernacle of Praise in Conestee. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Lynda Bagwell Harden of Pelzer; sons, David Williams of Gray Court, Larry Williams of Greer; sisters, Naomi Burger, Brenda Burdick, Carolyn Fuller, all of Easley, Ruth Beauchamp of Simpsonville; ten grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 8 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Entombment will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Terrell Vance Flynn, 48, of Williamston, husband of Valerie Farr Flynn, died Jan. 29, 2007 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Asheville, NC, he was the son of the late Mary Neely Flynn. He was Vice President and Plant Manager of Materials Management Associates in Easley. He was a member of Midway Presbyterian Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are; daughter, Lauren Gabrielle Flynn; son, Dakota Vance Flynn, all of the home; father, Lenard Flynn and his wife, Jo of Anderson; sister, Mary Lenard Hall of Florida; stepbrother, Michael Bridges of Anderson; and stepsister, Sandy Barrett of Anderson. A Celebration of his life was held Feb. 1 at Midway Presbyterian Church. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
