James Robert “Bob” Shackleford, 63, of Williamston, widower of Carol Lee Kendall Shackleford, died Feb. 11, 2006 at his home.

Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late Garvin Lee Robert and Eunice Waters Shackleford. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are son, Lee Keith of Monroe, OK; step-sons, Tommy Childress of Belton, Tony Childress of Ohio; step-daughter, Lori Hunter of Piedmont; sisters, Ann Stone, Mary Howard, both of Pelzer, Brenda Pridmore, Sara Jo Ferguson, both of Williamston; and five grandchildren.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.


MARTHA A. SPILLERS

Martha A. Spillers, 76, of Piedmont, widow of T.L. Spillers, died Feb. 9, 2006 at her home.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mae Ashmore.

She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Christian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Martha Elizabeth Koon of Fountain Inn and Nannie Louise Dilley of Piedmont; a son, Jerry Lee Spillers of Atlanta, GA; one grandson; and a brother, Bill Ashmore of Piedmont.

Funeral services were held Feb. 12 at Antioch Christian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


BETTY COBB TAYLOR

Born in Pelzer, daughter of BF and Bessie Carnes Cobb, Betty Cobb Taylor died Jan. 28, 2006 in Winter Park, FL.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Lyons of Victoria, TX, Billy Taylor of Perry, FL, Brenda Lagrone of Lake Placid, FL, and Barry Taylor of Saginaw, MI; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two adopted daughters, Kay Sorrells of Grand Bay, AL and Anne Culpepper of Mobile, AL; three sisters, Flora Taylor Dunston of Apopka, FL, Earlene Campbell of Belton; and Shirley Harmon of Pelzer.

A memorial service will be planned for June 10, 2006 in Pelzer.


MRS. NORENE BURGESS

Belton, SC - Norene Singleton Burgess, formerly of 16816 Brown Avenue Extension, Belton, SC died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the Hospice House of Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late James Oscar and Florene Lollis Singleton. She was the widow of James Allen Burgess.

She graduated from Anderson College where she was a charter member of the Annie Dove Denmark Society. She completed her degree at Erskine College and Furman University. She taught school for 30 years in Williamston and Belton and was a member of the Anderson County Retired Educators Association.

Norene was a member of First Baptist Church of Belton, SC, where she was active in the Philathea/Fidelis Sunday School Class and Woman’s Missionary Union.

She is survived by her son, Philip Allen Burgess of Anderson, SC; two daughters, Beth Burgess Smith of Richmond, VA and Jane Burgess Rice of Greenville, SC; three grandsons, Matthew Smith, Daniel Smith and Towers Rice; one sister, Addie Lee Lockaby; three brothers, Ralph Singleton, Billy Singleton and J.O. Singleton, Jr.

A service of remembrance and celebration was held on Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Belton with the Reverend T. Dale Lynch officiating. Burial followed in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Belton.

The family received friends in the Family Room of the First Baptist Church from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. preceding the service.

FAYE ELIZABETH MOODY BAGWELL

Faye Elizabeth Moody Bagwell, 69, wife of William “Bill” Bagwell of Belton, died Feb. 12, 2006 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Mary Crymes Moody and the late David A. Moody. She was a retired cafeteria manager at Pelzer Elementary School and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are; Jennifer and Cody Bagwell of the home; Children, Barbara Clatt, Larry Thompson, Debbie Garrett, Tim Bagwell all of Belton, Phyllis Sisk, Cindy Bagwell of Williamston, Barry Thompson of Florida, Rita Snyder of Honea Path, Darrell Bagwell of Tennessee; brothers, Robert Moody of Williamston, Jimmie Moody of Pelzer, LaFoy Moody of Clinton; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed  at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

KATHERINE HARRIS

Katherine Lecroy Harris, 70, of Piedmont, died Feb. 14, 2006 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Cedartown, GA, she was the daughter of the late Grady Henry and Mary Elizabeth Hanvey Lecroy.

Surviving are daughter, Sharon Harris Hart of Warner Robbins, GA; sons, Dawin David and Robert Bruce, both of the home; brother, Edgar R. Lecroy of Anderson; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 16 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.


BONNIE LEWIS

Bonnie Lewis, 88, of Anderson, died Feb. 10, 2006 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Toccoa, GA, she was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Belton.

Surviving are daughters, Bonnie Fay Samples of Anderson, Betty Sue Lewis of Greenville and Juanita Harris of Simpsonville; sons, Postell Lewis, Jr. of Williamston, Tommy Joe Lewis of Pelzer, Arthur Lewis of Greenville and John Andrew Lewis Sr. of Piedmont; and a brother, James Pressley of California.

She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Janine Pressley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Postell Lewis Sr.; a son, Willie B. Lewis; a grandson; sisters, Emma Ledbetter, Rena Blue and Birdie Gatheree; and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Feb. 15 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of North Major Road in Belton. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


DONNIE NELSON CROWDER

Donnie Nelson Crowder, 60, of Laurens, died Feb. 12, 2006 at his home.

He was born in Laurens, and was a son of the late Clayton Frank and Eva Mae Gregory Crowder.

He retired from Timken, was a member of Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church and served in the National Guard.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy Penland Crowder of the home; two sons, Donnie Ray Crowder of Laurens and Christopher Dale Crowder of Williamston; three brothers, Clifford Crowder of Laurens, Eddie Crowder of Laurens, and Jerry Crowder of Port Orange, FL; two sisters, Jean Gwinn of Laurens and Janice Hames of Laurens; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Laurens. Burial followed in the Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.


ALICE BRYANT ROITAILLE

Alice Elizabeth Bryant Robitaille, 53, died Feb. 14, 2006.

She was born in Augusta, GA, a daughter of the late Robert Oscar Sr. and Connie Virginia Ellis Bryant. She was a member of Everlasting Covenant Church, Dunean, Greenville.

Surviving are her husband, Vincent Robitaille of Easley; daughter, Stacie Bayne of Travelers Rest; two grandchildren; brothers, Robert Oscar Jr. of Taylors and Johnny Bryant of Piedmont; a sister, Sandra B. Atkins of Travelers Rest.

Viewing will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at Everlasting Covenant Church, Dunean. Funeral service will follow at the church.
