Betty Love Ridgeway Evans, 76, of Piedmont, died February 4, 2008 at her home. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Ralph R. and Robbeye Nell Turner Ridgeway. She worked at Meyers-Arnold Department Store. She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Thomas Waymond Evans of the home; two daughters, Tutti Hall of Easley and Jenny Evans of Powdersville; a brother, Riggie Ridgeway of Easley; a sister, Robbie Dudash of Easley; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Feb. 6 at Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road. Entombment followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Dedric Daquan Thomason, 28, of Simpsonville, died Jan. 30, 2008 in Gwinnett County, GA. He is survived by his mother, Emma Thomason Barton of Simpsonville; father, Thomas L. Black of Greenville; stepfather, Charles Barton of Simpsonville; one daughter, Delaysia DeNique Grady of Greenville; three sisters, Kamaria Thomason of Spartanburg, Jasenda Barton of Simpsonville and Lavette Chandler of Piedmont; two stepsisters, Tyasha Black of Greenville and Sunarda Bigby of Easley; and his grandmothers, Jessie Thomason of Simpsonville, Betty Black and Carrie Barton, both of Greenville. Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at The Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Simpsonville. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Ann Gossett Jones, 63, of Easley, died Feb. 5, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. Born in the Cedar Shoals Community of Belton, she was the daughter of the late John Clinton Gossett and Elizabeth Lindler Gossett. She was an employee of the Dermatology Clinic and Anderson Skin and Cancer Clinic and was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church. Surviving are her two sons, J. Glenn Hunter of Belton and C. Shane Hunter of Piedmont; and two granddaughters. Funeral services were held Feb. 8 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Emma Wilson Wright. Surviving are a daughter, Stephanie Brown of Leesburg, VA; son, Charles Fletcher, Jr. of Piedmont; sister, Claudia Vaughn of Piedmont and brothers, James F. Wright of Piedmont , W. Donald Wright of Michellville, MD; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held Feb. 8 at New Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
William Truman Tootsie Stallings, 78, husband of Joyce Ann Poteet Stallings, of Williamston, died Feb. 7, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late James Delmas and Ruby Thompson Stallings. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from Southern Bell, and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Piedmont. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Connie Erskine of Easley, Carolyn Winchester of Roebuck; son, Keith Stallings of Woodruff; step-children, Wanda Allen of Fountain Inn, Hal Jones of Pelzer, Beth Elgin of Williamston; sister, Marcelle Garrison of Fountain Inn; brothers, Russell Stallings of Belton, Weldon Stallings, David Stallings, both of Honea Path; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and six step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Feb. 9 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Edna Lorine Jenkins OShields, 79, widow of Arnold Brown and Walt OShields, of Pelzer, died Feb. 7, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late John and Carrie Robinson Jenkins. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pelzer Church of God. She is survived by daughters, Sarah Brown Browning of Williamston, Cathy Dianne Burgess Jackson of Pelzer; step-daughter, Cookie Jenkins of Pelzer; sister, Mary Ann Jenkins Kelly of Pelzer; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Feb. 9 at the Pelzer Church of God. Burial followed in Pine Lawn Cemetery in Pelzer.
Vera Mae Darby Armstrong, 86, widow of Arthur Frank Armstrong, formerly of Greenville, died Feb. 8, 2008 at Magnolias of Easley. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Chapman Darby. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Rawls of Piedmont; brothers, Hampton Darby of Belton and Clinton Darby of Petersburg, VA; sister, Elizabeth Willbanks of Aurora, CO; two grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters. Graveside services were held Feb. 10 at Greenville Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 708 Grove Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
Claude Childress, 80, of Greenville, died Feb. 7, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Fountain Inn, he was the son of the late Kay Martin and Blanch Childress. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Childress; daughters, Carolyn Jones of Fayetteville, NC, Claudia Thompson Smith of Mauldin, Kathy Jenkins of Piedmont, Blanche C. Arnold of Fountain Inn, and Nikita Backum of the home; sons, John Kenneth and Carvin Kay Childress, both of Greenville; 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held Feb. 10 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Coy Lynn Kelley, 58, of Piedmont, died Feb. 6, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. Born in Durham, NC, he was the son of the late Elmer L. and Margaret Clegg Kelley. He was of the Baptist faith and a United States Navy Veteran. Surviving are a son, Coy Brandon Kelley of Albany, GA; a daughter, Paige Kelley of Spartanburg; three sisters, Nancy Kelley of Piedmont, Judy Barbee of Burlington, NC, and Susan Lanier of Durham, NC; a brother, Tommy Kelley of Burlington, NC; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held Feb. 9 at Waycross Baptist Church.
Ruth Clark Cooper died Feb. 8, 2008 at McCall Hospice House. Born in Thomaston, GA, she was the wife of William Alton Cooper and the daughter of the late Don Clark and the late Ethel Blakeley Clark Holcombe. She was employed with Duke Power for 33 years and a member of Mauldin First Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Watson of Greenville and Cathy Fulwood of Bradenton, FL; a sister, Edna Chambers of Greenville; two brothers, Drue Clark of Greenville and Don Fowler of Pelzer; four grandsons; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held Feb. 11 in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Entombment followed in the Clyde Gaffney Mausoleum of Woodlawn Memorial Park. Michael Dean Bailey, 58, of Taylors, died Feb. 9, 2008. Born in Alliance, Ohio, he was the husband of Patricia Radsick Bailey and the son of the late Lacy Samuel and Bertie Holbrook Bailey. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired auto body specialist. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tarena Friese of Greer; two sons, Michael Lane Bailey of Taylors and Timothy Dean Bailey of Pelzer; three grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley Jean Runyon, Patricia Joan Bailey, Joyce Ann Saffron, and Judy Lynn Gentile; and one brother, Vernon Keith Bailey. No services are planned at this time.
Larry Eugene Springfield, 64, died Feb. 8, 2008 at Palmetto Baptist Health Easley. Born in Geenville County, he was a son of the late Fred and Mary Ruth Cooper Springfield. He was a cabinetmaker and a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are Carolyn Holder; one son, Michael Springfield of Franklin, NC; a brother, Calvin Springfield of Pelzer; and two sisters, Carolyn Leopard of Pickens and Lucy Chafin of Piedmont. Funeral services were held Feb. 12 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
Ricky Storay, 49, of Fountain Inn, died Feb. 8, 2008 in Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Brenda Storay and the son of Carl and Helen Storay of Fountain Inn. He was an employee of Loraine Machine Shop in Greenville. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Storay of Liberty; daughter, Ashley Storay of Fountain Inn; brothers Johnny and Lanny of Fountain Inn and Bill of Pelzer; and one grandson. Robert Jeffrey Jeff Durham, 51, of Williamston, died Feb. 10, 2008 at AnMed Health Care. Born in Anderson County, he was a son of Alice Moody Durham and the late Robert Jackson Durham. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, a member of the Williamston Church of God. Surviving are his mother of the home; and a brother, George Durham of Abbeville. WILLIAMSTON, Allen Elwood Ware, 76, husband of Louise Morgan Ware of 206 Winter Lane, died Sunday, February 10, 2008 at AnMed Health Center. Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Charlie B. and Ruby Price Ware. He was an Army veteran and employed with the Department of Public Welfare and a longer tenure in Vocational Rehabilitation until his retirement and was named Employee of the Year, 1985. He was an avid collector of antique flywheel engines and belonged to numerous flywheel clubs. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 14 years, worked with Habitat for Humanity and was a member of the Williamston Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, Gaye W. (Phil) Page of Simpsonville; son, Scott Allen Ware of Anderson; step-daughter, Kristen T. (Edward) Burton of Williamston; step-son, Michael (Sharon) Taylor of Honea Path; sister, Mabel W. (Frank) Baggett; brothers, Lowry P. Ware, Gene R. (Shirley) Ware, all of Due West; grandchildren, Hannah and Thomas Page, Nicholas and Katie Burton, Liliana, Delaney, Seth, Alyssa and Kayla Taylor. He was predeceased by a son, Bradley M. Ware and brother, Charlie B. Ware, Jr. He was twice married, first to the late Anne Compton Ware. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Williamston Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Hallman officiating. Burial followed in New Silverbrook Cemetery. Margaret Crawford Brown, 87, of Greenville, died Feb. 10, 2008. Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Crawford and Caro Landress Crawford and wife of the late Bailey Cebrook Brown. She retired from Greenville Hospital System and was a member of Augusta Heights Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons, Bailey C. Brown, Jr. of Fountain Inn, Bob Brown of Greenville, and John Brown of Pelzer; brother, Sonny Crawford of Clemson; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Feb. 12 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West. James Jim Edward Russell, 72, husband of Mary Kathryn McAbee Russell of Belton, died Feb. 11, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Vermont, he was the son of the late Merritt Gordon and Elsie Hattie Davis Russell. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and formerly owned and operated Russell Plumbing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Kathleen Croomes of Beaufort, NC, Suzanne Pam Russell of De Soto, TX; sons, Edward Daniel Russell, Christopher Merritt Russell, both of Williamston, James Jerome Russell of Piedmont; sisters, Mary Jane Snedeker of Storm Lake, IA, Pauline Manard of NC, Mattie Parrot of VT; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
