JUDY CAROL BATTE

Judy Carol White Batte, 56, wife of Jerald Lee Batte of Aiken, died Feb. 15, 2006.

She was born to the late Jack White and the late Grace White-Bargiol of Pelzer. She was a homemaker and a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband of the home; she is survived by a son, James “Jimmy” Batte of Aiken.

Funeral services were held Feb. 19 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


JOHN D. BALLENTINE SR.

John D. Isaiah Ballentine Sr., 90, of Belton, died Feb. 14, 2006 at his home.

He was a native of Laurens County and the son of the late Jock and Ethel Ballentine. He was the widower of Willie Mae Wright Ballentine.

He was a member of the Christian Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Ida Mae Beal of Belton, Jean Simmons of Greenville and Denise Ballentine of Anderson; sons, John L. Ballentine of Piedmont, J.C. Ballentine and Leo Ballentine, both of Belton, the Rev. Matthew Ballentine of Honea Path, and John D. Ballentine Jr. and Willie Ballentine, both of Anderson; 29 grandchildren; and 64 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Feb. 19 at Christian Hope Baptist Church  in Ware Shoals. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


BOBBY L. TRIPP

Bobby L. Tripp died Feb. 18, 2006. 

He was born in Williamston and retired in Jacksonville, FL. He was a member of Mandarin United Methodist Church and was a licensed realtor.

He is survived by daughters, Pam Green and Patsy Lindamood; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Louise Tripp.

Funeral services were held Feb. 22 in Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Northeast Florida Community Hospice.


ALICE B. COOPER

Alice B. Cooper, 60, wife of Dale O. Cooper, of Williamston, died Feb. 13 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Adams, MA, she was the daughter of the late Irving Oscar Lamay and Violet Tattersall Lamay. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are; children, Chrissy Nixon of Anderson, Mellissa Estes of Honea Path, Dale R. Cooper of York; brothers, Charles Alliss Jr. of Charlotte, NC, James Alliss of Dallas, TX; foster parents, Charles and Patricia Alliss; and seven grandchildren.

A brother, Robert Lemay, predeceased her.

Funeral services were held Feb. 15 at Second Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate.


CLAUDE O. ROWLAND

Claude Oliver Rowland Jr., 82, of Starr, died Feb. 17, 2006 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.

Born in Lincolnton, GA, he was a son of the late Claude Oliver Rowland, Sr. and Mary Jane Hall Rowland.

He was a retired truck driver with Merita Bakery and was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and attended Starr Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are his wife, Edna T. Rowland of the home; daughter, Claudia Jenkins of Greenville; stepdaughter, Myrtle Norwood of Williamston; son, Roger Martin of Dearing, GA; brother, James Rowland of Lincolnton, GA; sisters, Mozelle Smalley, Myrtice Poss and Mary Jane Clement, all of Lincolnton, GA, Elizabeth Blake of Augusta, GA, and Clara Bonett and Jeanette Chapman, both of Aiken; four grandchildren; six stepgranchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie G. Rowland.

Funeral services were held Feb. 19 in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed in South Lawn Memorial Gardens.

EVA LOUISE DARBY

Eva Louise Kellett Darby, 86, of Pelzer, widow of James Louie Darby, died Feb. 16, 2006.

Born in Simpsonville, she was a daughter of the late Sam Franklin Kellett and Dovey Reeves Kellett.

She was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, James Ronald Darby of Charleston and Gary Wayne Darby of Pelzer; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Vera Miller of Ladson, Lois Millspaugh of Tampa, FL, and Elsie Verner of Charleston.

Funeral services were held Feb. 19 at Sandy Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

ANDY BARNETTE

Andrew “Andy” Daniel Barnette, 91, formerly of Piedmont, died Feb. 19, 2006 at Riverside Living Center.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Henry P. and Fannie Nichols Suddeth Barnette.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Graveside services were held Feb. 21 at Conestee Cemetery.


HILDA B. BROWN

Hilda Burdette Brown, 77, formerly of Laurens, died Feb. 20, 2006 at Transitional Health Services in Kannapolis, NC.

Born in Iva, she was a daughter of the late James Leroy Burdette, Sr. and Mittie Loftis Burdette. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy B. Fidler of Kannapolis, NC and Barbara B. Roper of Myrtle Beach; two brothers, James Leroy Burdette, Jr. of Iva and Julian Kent Burdette of Ware Shoals; one sister, Mary Burdette Smith of Piedmont; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 22 at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Iva.

RUBY WILSON

Ruby Tollison Wilson, 76, formerly of Piedmont, widow of the Rev. Claude Wilson, died Feb. 21, 2006 at Riverside Living Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late James and Bertha Bridges Tollison. She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Baptist Church in Easley.

Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Allison; sons, Johnny Wilson, Ronnie Wilson, both of Piedmont; brother, James Tollison of Piedmont; sisters, Catherine Hughes, Betty Bryson, Caroline Bryson, all of Piedmont, Judy Matheson of St. Petersburg, FL; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 23 at Victory Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Piedmont.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Anderson Relay for Life, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.


EDITH JONES

Edith Taber Jones, 92, of Clarkesville, died Feb. 20, 2006 at Habersham County Medical Center.

Born in Madison County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Mary Radford Taber. She was also predeceased by her husband, Harry Richard Jones.

She was a member of Clarkesville Baptist  Church. She retired from Clarkesville Mill.

Surviving are daughter, Martha Ann “Cookie” Watson of Clarkesville; sister, Ruby Larocca of Piedmont; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at Whitefield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

ELIZABETH WALKER MARTIN

Evangelist Elizabeth Walker Martin, formerly of Piedmont, died Feb. 17, 2006 at Oakmont East Nursing Home.

A daughter of the late Dave Walker and Bessie Henderson Walker and wife of the late Adell Martin, she was a member and associate minister of the Zet Court First Church of God, Greenville, and retired from Union Carbide (National Electric.)

She is survived by two sons, Odell Martin of Piedmont and Steven Martin of Mauldin; four daughters, Betty Brightman of Spartanburg, Dr. Queen Hamilton of Grand Terrace, CA, Lillie Milbourne of Eastern Shore, VA, and Sharon Chapman of Simpsonville; a brother, Robert Walker of Piedmont; four sisters,  Thelma B. Banner of Piedmont, Marjorie Sherman of Greenville, Shelby Johnson of Simpsonville, and Daisy Jeanette Walker of Mauldin; 11 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Flat Rock Baptist Church, Piedmont. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


JOSEPH H. BURDETTE

Joseph Harper Burdette, husband of Annette M. Burdette, of Greenville, died Feb. 20, 2006.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late Henry and Vincey Lister Burdette.

He was a pharmaceutical representative and a member of The Church of the Redeemer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Surviving, in addition to his wife; are two sons, Vince Burdette of Marietta, GA, and Philip Burdette of Anderson; two stepsons, Steven Nestor of Marietta, GA, and David Nestor of Knoxville, TN; two sisters, Marcelle Morse of Williamston and Doris Barwick of Piedmont; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. at The Church of the Redeemer. Entombment will follow at Graceland East Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends Feb. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.

Harry William “Red” Adams, 69, formerly of Pelzer, died Feb. 22, 2006, at the home of Clyde an dChere Riley in Moncks Corner.

Born in Williamston, he was the son of the late Carl Adrian and Florence Ella Brown Adams.

He is survived by a sister, Mary Elizabeth “Bette” Jameson of North Charleston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
