Apr. 7, 1936 - Feb. 13, 2007

PELZER, Furman Sylvia Crone, 70, husband of Barbara Carpenter of 4 Foster Street, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Fred Sylvia and Ruby Capps Crone. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, formerly employed at Seabrook, Inc., a lifetime member of the Pelzer Masonic Lodge #217, and a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Duane Wilson of Pelzer; daughter, Karen Underwood of Greenville; step-daughters, Pam Simmons, Debbie Loftis of Pickens; step-sons, Alan Duncan of Pickens, Tony Jones of Easley; three brothers, Douglas Crone of Greer, Jimmie Crone of Maryland, Winfred Crone of Piedmont; four sisters, Freddie Lark, Dorothy Parsons, Nancy Evatt of Piedmont, Martha Ann Owens of Anderson; four grandchildren, Brandi Andrews, Josh Roper, Joy Simmons, Robbie Duncan; great-grandchildren, Mickayla Jones, Ashley Jones, Kylie Jones and Katie Simmons.

He was twice married, first to the late Martha Jean Phillips Crone.

Services were held Feb. 16 at Gray Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Paul Herring and Mr. Bill Foster officiating. Entombment with Masonic rites followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family received friends at the home Feb. 15 at the funeral home.


JAMES WILLIAMS

James Ernest Williams, 84, of Pelzer, widower of Hazel Marie Kuykendall Williams, died Feb. 16, 2007 at his home.

Born in Fontana, NC, he was a son of the late Jessie and Annie Jenkins Williams. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, formerly owned and operated Williams Garage, and was a member of New Life Tabernacle of Praise in Conestee.

He is survived by daughter, Lynda Bagwell Harden of Pelzer; sons, David Williams of Gray Court, Larry Williams of Greer; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Funeral services were held Feb. 19 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Entombment followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

JUDY PATTON

Judy Terry Patton, 66, of Pelzer, died Feb. 15, 2007 at Hillcrest Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Laurens County to the late John Furman and Mary Frances Lynch Terry. She was retired from Woodside Mill and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, John Bradley Pinson of Pelzer, Anthony Scott Pinson of Piedmont and Richard Thomas Pinson of Pelzer; a stepdaughter, Becky Price of NC; two brothers, Richard Terry of Fountain Inn and Thomas Terry of Spartanburg; six sisters, Frances Bolt of Gray Court, Rosa King of Laurens, Elsie Martin of Laurens, Margie Owenby of Edneyville, NC, Nellie Brock of Columbia and Brenda Vaughn of Gray Court; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Feb. 18 in the chapel of Fletcher Funeral Service. Burial followed at Cross Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery.


MARY ELIZABETH LONG

Mary Elizabeth Long, 63, of Piedmont, died Feb. 17, 2007 at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Francis Cooley Gilreath and the late Rev. V.E. Gilreath. She was a member of Belton Wesleyan Church and retired from Gerber Children’s Wear.

Surviving in addition to her mother are; a son, John Hamby, Jr. of Piedmont; daughters, Laura Cox of Piedmont, Vickie McDaniel of Honea Path and Debbie Bryant of Pelzer; brother, Steven R. Gilreath of Belton; sister, Margaret Frank of Piedmont; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral service was held Feb. 20 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Garden of Memories.

DAVID PAUL HRAB

David Paul Hrab, 42, of Greenville, died Feb. 16, 2007.

Surviving are parents, Michael and Shirley Hrab of Greenville; three sisters, Teresa Kay Hrab of Greer, Deborah Elizabeth Eller of Easley, Michelle Anna McGaha of Greenville; four brothers, Michael Hrab of Greenville, Michael Pietro Hrab of Pelzer; Stephen Timothy Hrab of Easley, and Jonathan Andrew Hrab of Greenville.

A private family memorial service was held Feb. 18.


WALTER G. BROOKSHIRE, II

Walter Giles Brookshire, II, 79, of Taylors, died Feb. 11, 2007 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Walter Giles Brookshire, Sr. and Margaret Bagwell Brookshire Holcombe. He was a member of Piedmont Park Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are three sons, Walter Brookshire III and William Brookshire, both of Easley, and Thomas H. Brookshire of Altoona, AL; two daughters, Julie King of Piedmont and Margaret Frazier of Williamston; four sisters, Betty Lucas of Washington, D.C., Rita Mullinix of Greenwood and Joyce Sims and Sandra King, both of Simpsonville; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Feb. 18 at Piedmont Park Baptist Church. Interment will follow at a later date in Florence National Cemetery.

FRED DEAN SR.

Fred Dean Sr., of Piedmont, died Feb. 13, 2007.

He was a member of Reedy Fork Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Roadway Express.

Surviving are his wife, Jestine Summers Dean; three sons, Fred Jr., Bryant and Kenneth; two daughters, Angela Dean Joachim and Evelyn Little; ten grandchildren; four sisters, Mamie Chiles, Lorraine Henderson, Dianne Reid and Loretta Ramey; and a brother, LeRoy Young Jr.

Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at Reedy Fork Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


JOHN PHILLIP HARRIS

John Phillip Harris, 67, of Pendleton, died Feb. 17, 2007 at the Margaret R. Pardee Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville, NC.

He was the son of Estella Berry Harris and the late John Henry Harris. 

Surviving in addition to his mother are: sisters, Willie Martin of Williamston, Gloria Williams, Janet Williams, and Judy Ajayai, all of Pendleton; and a brother, E.T. Harris of Pendleton.

Funeral services were held Feb. 20, at The Unity Mortuary Chapel of Anderson. Interment followed at the Anderson Memorial Gardens.


CURTIS WOODSON

January 11, 1944-February 16, 2007

WILLIAMSTON, SC - William Curtis Woodson, 63, of 107 Crestview Drive, widower of Gail Booth Woodson, died at his home on Friday, February 16, 2007.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late L.D. Woodson and Kathleen Williams Woodson Clardy. He retired from BASF, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pelzer, and Williamston Masonic Lodge #24.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Kim Woodson of Williamston; sister, Joyce Bagwell of Pelzer; and grandchildren, Tiffany Woodson Motsinger, Corey Woodson, and Hunter Woodson.

He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Woodson.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the Rev. Mickey Gambrell and the Rev. Robert Fleming officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home and received friends Sunday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

DONNA ROBERTS

PELZER, SC - Donna King Roberts, 60, wife of Adger Roberts, of 8917 Augusta Road, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 16, 2007.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of Joe C. King of Lincolnton, GA and the late Hortense Darby King. She retired from 3M and was a member of Bessie Road Baptist Church. She was very faithful to her Lord and to her family.

In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law, John D. and Mechelle Roberts of Piedmont; brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Jean King of Pelzer; sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Allan Zoeller of Atlanta, GA; and grandchildren, Kelsey and Haley Roberts.

She was predeceased by her son, Michael A. Roberts.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Feb. 19 at Bessie Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Griswold, the Rev. J. Roy Thacker, and the Rev. Thomas King officiating. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and received friends 6-8 p.m. Feb. 18 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

JAMES ‘JIMMY’ COLE

James “Jimmy” Edward Cole, 61, of Pelzer, husband of Shirley Simpson Cole, died Feb. 18, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Mart Cole and Nancy Lafayette Tollett Cole Davis.

He was formerly employed with Huskey Construction.

Surviving are his wife of the home; three sons, Johnny Edward Cole of Pelzer, Jeffrey James Cole of Piedmont, Jimmy Jason Cole of Pelzer; brother, Mart Leon Cole of Pelzer; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Feb. 21 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.


BERTHA WHITT NICHOLS

Bertha Marie Whitt Nichols, widow of the late Harold Olin Nichols, died Feb. 17, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late John David, Sr. and Maude Alice Boren Whitt. She was formerly employed with the Kendall Co. and a member of Pelzer United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, William Whitt and Joel Whitt; a sister, Nancy Lorenz.

Graveside services were held Feb. 19 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


RUCIA MAHAFFEY POORE

Rucia Mahaffey Poore, 93, widow of the late J.T. Poore, of Williamston, died Feb. 19, 2007 at her home.

She was born in the Cheddar Community, daughter of the late Brock and Ida Vandiver Mahaffey.

She was retired from Blair Mill and a member of First Baptist Church in Williamston.

She is survived by a niece-as-daughter, Dr. Jean Mahaffey of Williamston.

Funeral services were held Feb. 21 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at the Garden of Memories.

MADELINE BANNISTER

Madeline Betty McCombs Bannister, 76, formerly of Pelzer, died Feb. 18, 2007 at Palmetto Health Baptist in Easley.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Ben and Ethel Brock McCombs. She was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Burton of Pelzer, Kathy Smith of Williamston, Tammy Thompson of Clayton, NC; two sons, Tony Bannister of West Pelzer, Stephen Bannister of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Marie Looper of Pelzer, Grace Morgan of West Pelzer; brother, Lloyd McCombs of Pelzer; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Feb. 21 at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.
