VIOLA BELL

BELTON - Viola Genevieve Burgess Bell, 76, beloved wife of James Clarence Bell, of 411 Crawford Road, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Clifton and Janie Ricketts Burgess. She was a homemaker and a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Brenda Bell Clardy and her husband Bob of Belton, Susan Bell Hamann and her husband Jerry of Nové Zámky, Slovakia; sisters, Virginia Scott of Orangeburg, Noreen Rowe of Portland, OR; brothers, Harrison Burgess, Edgar Burgess, Clyde Burgess, all of Williamston; grandchildren, Kelly Clardy Young, Kristy Clardy Tilley, Allison Hamann, Anna Hamann; and great-granddaughter, Savannah Alexus Young.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Whitefield Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ron Fousek, and the Rev. Jimmy Smith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family was at the home of Brenda and Bob Clardy, 103 Compton Road, Belton, and received friends 1:30-3:15 p.m. Friday prior to the service at Whitefield Baptist Church.

ALVIN WAYNE FULLER

Alvin Wayne Fuller, 93, formerly of Piedmont, died Feb. 13, 2008.

Surviving is his son, Charles Russell “Rusty” Fuller of Easley.

Funeral service was held Feb. 17 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

PAMELA RIGNEY

Pamela Diane Willimon Rigney, 50, wife of Benny Gerald Rigney, of Piedmont, died Feb. 14, 2008.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of Wayne Wesley Willimon of Easley and Ramona Foster Willimon of Piedmont. She was a homemaker and a member of White Plains Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by daughter, Amanda Diane Epps; son Benny Luther Rigney, both of Simpsonville; sisters, Terri L. Haynes, Lori W. Hall, both of Greenville; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 17 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.


IRENE MADDOX

Irene Mize Maddox, 92, of Greenville, widow of Jimmie Maddox, died Feb. 17, 2008 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Homer, GA, she was the daughter of the late Spart Watson and Monia Westbrook Mize.

She retired from Union Carbide. She was the oldest member of Augusta Road United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Hill of Greenville; sons, Larry Maddox of Greenville, Bobby Maddox of Pelzer, Donnie Maddox of Pelzer; brothers, Ted and Lester Mize of Belton; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 20 at Augusta Road United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JAMES E. DOWDY

James E. Dowdy, 81, of Belton, died Feb. 15, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Eastman, GA, he was a son of the late John and Rosalee White Dowdy. He was retired from Wellington Mill.

Surviving are his sons, Kenneth M. Dowdy and Donald C. Dowdy, both of Anderson; daughter, Dianne Patterson of Williamston; sisters, Roma Lou Hammonds and Suzy Anderson, both of Georgia; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria Elizabeth Beeland Dowdy.

A graveside service was held Feb. 17 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Connie Louise Porter, 49 of Belton, died Feb. 16, 2008.

Born in Newport, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of Margaret Medlin of Greenville and the late Frederick Bryant Millwood.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Terry Porter of the home; one daughter, Shanna Bacon of Honea Path; four stepsons, Robert Travis Porter of Pelzer, Darry Lynn Porter and Barry Gene Porter, both of Greenville and Justin Quade Porter of Belton; one grandchild; three sisters, Margaret Ann Griffin, Melissa Greer and Travita House; and one brother, Michael Millwood.

Funeral services were held Feb. 19 at Greenville Memorial Gardens Chapel. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


EUGENE J. RYFCZYNSKI

Eugene John Ryfczynski, 79, of Piedmont died Feb. 18, 2008 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late John and Rose Stronka Ryfczynski, he retired from the Marriott Corporation and was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are his wife Mary Ann Stelmach Ryfczynski of the home; a son Michael Ryfczynski of Gulf Breeze, Fla., two daughters, Cathy Gaffny of Winchendon, Mass. and Linda Morgan of Williamston; a sister, Lorraine Mirowski of Buffalo, N. Y.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.

DORRIS S. STONE

Dorrris Scroggs Stone, 79, of Easley died Feb. 18, 2008 at Palmetto Health Baptist Easley.

She was born in Pelzer, a daughter of the late Ernest and Florence Griffin Scroggs. She graduated from Williamston High School. She worked in restaurant management and food preparation. She was of the baptist faith.

Surviving are a son, Johnny L. Stone of Easley; a daughter, Anita Lory Horton of Camden; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Stone.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 21 in the chapel of Robinson  F uneral Home - Downtown. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

The family is at the home of her son, Johnny L. Stone, 535 Old Cedar Rock R oad, Easley.


JUDY LORETTA BENTLEY

Judy Loretta Bentley, 67, of Greenville, wife of Donald Gene Bentley, died Feb. 17, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ethel Baldwin Faulkner.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are five children, Lottie Bryant of Easley, Glenda Peele of Liberty, Tracy Brown of Idaho, Susie Shelton of Easley and Dale  Bentley of Piedmont; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Reba Martinez and Susan Sigman; and a brother, Ed Faulkner.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Troy G . Brown.

Funeral service will be Feb. 21 in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.william duncan

William A. “Bill” Duncan, 79, of Easley, husband of the late Earline Merck  Duncan, died Feb. 19 at the Hospice House of Anderson.

He was a son of the late Miles Matthew and Sarah Ollie Nix Duncan. He retired from the McCrory Corporation.

Surviving are a son, Lewis Duncan of Atlanta; a daughter, Christy Baker of Easley; a brother, Russell Duncan of Seneca; five sisters, Mildred Littleton of Easley, Hazel Stone of Williamston, Gladys Miller of  Clemson, Beatrice Garrett of Walhalla and Annie Ruth Vinson of Otto, N. C.; two grandchildren; a stepgrandson; a great-granddaughter.

Memorial graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 21 at Westview Cemetery in Walhalla.

‘DOT’ BURNS

Dorothy “Dot” Brown Burns, 62, of Anderson died Feb. 16, 2008 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Franklin County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Omer David and Pecolia Sue Higgins Brown, She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Pelzer.

Suriving are her family, Michelle and Bob Willoughby of Simpsonville, Kerri Ferguson and Steve Gailey of Anderson; their father, Elvin Burns of Anderson; sister, Linda Lewallen of Anderson; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial followed at Stephens Memorial Gardens in Toccoa, Georgia.

JOHNNY MILLS

Johnny Derrill Mills, 52, of West Pelzer, died Feb. 17, 2008 at his home.

Born in Newberry, he was a son of Boyd Derrill and his wife Hellen D. Mills of Piedmont, and the late Geraldine Winngate.

He is also survived by sister, Vickie M. Jones of Easley; brothers, Tony R. Mills of Greenville, Michael E. Mills of Dacusville, Stoney D. Mills, Stephen D. Mills, both of Easley, and Michael A. Black of Ware Shoals.

Funeral services were held Feb. 19 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Building Fund, 101 Pisgah Road, Easley, SC 29642.


“LADY” DAVIS KAINE

Angela “Lady” Davis Kaine, 46, of Pelzer, died Feb. 16, 2008.

Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of Bobby Glenn, Sr. and Linda Bagwell Davis of Pelzer.

Surviving are three sons, Chris Davis of Pelzer, Kyle Davis and Hunter Kaine of the home; three brothers, Glenn, Dennis and Todd Davis, all of Pelzer.

Funeral services were held Feb. 20 at Gray Mortuary. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
