EDDIE FINLEY

Eddie Edward Finley, 64, husband of Nellie “Nell” Louise VanderValk Finley, of West Pelzer, died March 9, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Leon Henry and Lydia Mae Arnold Finley. He was formerly employed by J. P. Stevens, Estes Plant, was a twenty year member of the West Pelzer Fire Department, and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by his daughter, Pamela Arnold of Pelzer; son, Edward Randall Finley of West Pelzer; brothers, Elton Finley, Elbert Finley, both of Pelzer, Roy Finley of Williamston and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mar. 12 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.


EVELYN PHILLIPS

Evelyn Roberts Wooten Phillips, 84, formerly of Pelzer, widow of Roy Phillips, died March 9, 2006 at Riverside Living Center in Piedmont.

Born in Woodruff, she was a daughter of the late Truman and Thelma Greer Roberts. She retired from the Kendall Company and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are daughter, Cecile Marie McDowell of Belton; sons, Don Wooten of Greenville and Jimmy Wooten of Belton; brother, Charles Roberts of Pelzer; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Mar. 11 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.

Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund at Riverside Living Center, 109 Bentz Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.


QUAY MILLER

Quay Ronald Miller, 92, husband of Patsy Ruth Anderson Miller, of Williamston, died March 9, 2006 at his home.

Born in Starr, he was the son of the late George Franklin and Elizabeth Miller. He retired from Mt. Vernon and was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by daughters, Kelly Burgess of Pendleton, Leigh Hurst of Williamston; son, Mart Carter of Williamston; sisters, Mary Hudgens of Greenville, Edith Miller of Arlington, VA; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Mar. 11 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.

CAROLYN JONES FOSTER

Carolyn Jones Foster, of Piedmont, died March 9, 2006 at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Gettys Lee Jones and Thelma Jones Sites of Taylors.

She was a supervisor at T.A.S. Communications.

Surviving are two sisters, Debbie J. Quattlebaum of Greenville, and Kathy J. McConnell of Taylors; three daughters, Jeannie Looper of Piedmont, Joy Lewis of Greer, and Jackie Hunnicutt of Gastonia, NC; and three granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam’s Way, Randleman, NC 27317.

Memorial service was held March 12 at First Baptist Church, Piedmont.


DOLORES WICKETT, Ed.D.

Dolores Davis Wickett, Ed.D., 81, of Greenville, widow of Robert M. Wickett, Sr., died March 7, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Veronica Balint Davis.

Prior to retiring, she was Program Director for the Macomb County Health Department, Mt. Clemens, MI.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan Schafer Gioia of Greenville and Amy Beth Stinson of Springfield, VA; three sons, Timothy John Wickett of Albuquerque, N.M., Robert M. Wickett Jr. of Greenville, and Daniel James Wickett of Piedmont; two brothers, Richard C. Davis and William F. Davis, both of Anchorage, AK; and ten grandchildren.

JOHN MARSHALL McALISTER

John Marshall McAlister, 72, of Johnson City, TN, died Feb. 25, 2006 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was a native of Anderson, and a son of the late Roy Dewey and Mary Elva Junkins McAlister. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McAlister.

He was a member of Sinking Creek Bapitst Church and served in the U.S. Navy.

Surviving are his daughters, Kay Earlene Yancey Bates of Nashville, Marie Mitchell of Johnson City, TN and Marsha Jean Hawk of Elizabethton; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Una Hoff of Pennsylvania, Myra Markham of Florida, Dorcas Allen of Misouri and Ariel Lee Smith of Piedmont; and brothers, Charles M. McAlister of Leesville, M.A. McAlister of Anderson and Roy Dewey McAlister of Asheville, NC.


CHARLES WASHINGTON JR.

Charles Washington, Jr., of Piedmont, died March 9, 2006 in Greenville.

Surviving are wife, Brenda Washington; son, Charles Washington III of the home; and daughter, Tiffany Washington of Taylors.

Funeral services were held Mar. 13 at S.C. Franks Chapel of Remembrance. Burial followed in New Golden Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.Evelyn Abercrombie

Evelyn Abercrombie, 72, of Piedmont, died Mar. 10, 2006.

She was the wife of the late James Abercrombie and the daughter of the late Will and Marie Davis. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Gresham and Ellie Abercrombie; and two sons, James Abercrombie and Ronald Abercrombie, all of Piedmont; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 13 at Cannon Funerals and Cremations Fountain Inn Chapel. Burial followed in Cannon Memorial Park.


J.B. FELTMAN

James Benjamin “J.B.” Feltman, 64, husband of Edith Jeanelle Lollis Feltman of Pelzer, died March 12, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late William Benjamin and Isabell Anderson Feltman. He was retired from Gaylord Box Container,  currently worked with the Greenville County School System and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Pelzer.

Surviving are his wife of the home; son, William Greg Feltman of Pelzer; sister, Dot Revis of Pelzer; brothers, Tom Feltman of Pelzer and Leroy Feltman of Laurens; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mar. 14 at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.


ALBERT BASKIN

Albert Pressley Baskin, 98, of Elberton, GA, died March 10, 2006 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Born in Abbeville County, he was the son of the late John Gamble Baskin and Edna Sue Smith Baskin. He was retired from Turner Concrete Company of Elberton and a member of the First Baptist Church of Elberton.

Surviving are three sons, Pressley Baskin of Williamston, Mike Baskin of Hartwell and Richard Baskin of Anderson; a sister, Julia Wood of Easley; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Louise McAllister Baskin.

Graveside services were held March 13 at Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lowndesville.

SHIRLEY S. JONES

Mary Shirley Smith Jones, 57, of Taylors, died March 10, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

A native of Statesville, NC, she was of the Baptist faith and retired from Carolina Fashions, Mauldin.

Surviving are her husband, Taylor “T.G.” Jones of the home; her mother, Dora Lee Smith of Greenville; three brothers, Steve Elrod of Iowa, Elden Woods and John Smith, both of North Carolina; two sisters, Joyce Allen of Greer and Sheila Richardson of Pelzer.

She was predeceased by her father, Willie Smith.

Graveside services were held Mar. 12 at Wood Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 310-B Bennett Center Drive, Greer, SC.


“ANGIE” MULLINAX

WILLIAMSTON, Angela Denise “Angie” Mullinax, 30, of 107 Hemlock Drive, died Friday, March 10, 2006.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Danny Clifton and Barbara Delores Roach Joy. She was a member of the Easley Police Department, a Criminal Justice Student at Greenville Tech, a member of the S.C. Law Enforcement Officers Association and a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church in Easley.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas Ervin Mullinax, Jr. of Easley, her parents of Williamston; daughter, Brysan Danyelle Mullinax of the home; sister, Lisa Surner of Williamston; grandmother, Betty Mashburn of Central; great-grandmother, Ruth Brock of Pendleton; nephews, Tyler McAlister Epps and Jonathan Chase Surner of Williamston.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Williamston with Rev. Brad Bardin and Chaplain Randy Smith officiating.

Entombment followed at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with full Law Enforcement honors.

Members of Law Enforcement served as Honorary Pallbearers. 

The family received friends Sunday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

SADIE L. COX

Sadie Lollis Cox, 88, of Pelzer, widow of John Cox, died March 13, 2006 at her home.

Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Ramsey and Arrab  Knight Lollis. She was retired from Ellen Woodside Elementary School and a member of Waycross Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Carolyn Cox; daughter, Cathy Lomax; son, Joe Cox; brother, Carrol Lollis; sister, Doris Davis, all of Pelzer; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Graveside services were held Mar. 15 at Waycross Baptist Church Cemetery.

CURTIS WALKER, JR.

Dec. 14, 1951 - March 12, 2006

GREENVILLE - Curtis Heyward Walker, Jr., 54, husband of Cheryl Morrow Walker, of 116 Azalea Hill Drive, died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Curtis Heyward, Sr. and Elizabeth Newton Walker. He was a professional musician, owner and operator of Deluxe Cleaners in Williamston, and a member of Brookwood Church in Simpsonville.

His lifelong passion was music. He particularly enjoyed arranging, directing and performing contemporary Christian music. Curt loved to travel and enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, and gardening.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by his sister, Bettye Angela Walker of Westminster; brother, John Thomas Walker of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy Morrow Jackson and her husband Ed of Yorktown, VA; sister-in-law, Mollie Jones of Greenwood; and nieces and nephews, Curtis, Justina, and Cassidy Walker, Morry and Lee Jackson, and Diana Morrow.

Memorial services were held 5 p.m. Wednesday at Brookwood Church in Simpsonville with the Rev. Ike Patterson and the Rev. David Hardy officiating.

Immediately following the service, a celebration of Curt’s life was held at Creekside Plantation, 3118 S. Highway 14, Greenville, SC 29615.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. CHARLES OLEN MULLINAX

Charles Olen Mullinax, 77, of Piedmont, died March 14, 2006.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Herman and Jessie Maddox Mullinax.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was retired from Associated Transport and Leeway Transport. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Dobson Mullinax of the home; a daughter, Sheri Stowe of Piedmont; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Louise Day and Ann Moore of Pickens, and Rosella Burton of Jasper, AL.

Visitation will be held March 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

Funeral services will be held at noon on March 17 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, West.

WALTER LEE “GATOR” KAY

Walter Lee “Gator” Kay, 59, formerly of Piedmont, died March 13, 2006 in Garden City.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Hershel W. and Mozelle Beck Kay, and husband of the late Deborah Jean Kay.

He was employed with Thomas Supply Company in Murrells Inlet.

Surviving are a daughter, SaDonna Buchanan of Piedmont; three sons, Kenny Kay of Pelzer, Jamie Kay of Piedmont, and Travis Kay of Easley; a sister, Shirley Elrod of Piedmont; and three grandsons.

Visitation will be held March 16 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

Graveside services will be held March 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.


HELEN HOLLIDAY

Helen Evelyn Singleton Holliday, 91, formerly of Williamston, widow of Vernon Clark Holliday, died March 13, 2006 at Riverside Living Center in Piedmont.

Born in Pell City, AL, she was a daughter of the late Alvie and Lula Ida Maggie Mae White Singleton. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Peggy Bohanan of Piedmont, June Holliday of Honea Path; sons, Edward Holliday of Arkansas, Bruce Holliday of Minden, LA, Donald Holliday of Conroy, TX, Richard Holliday of Orlando, FL, Charles O’Neal Holliday of Anderson, Bobby Holliday of Pelzer; sister, Lucille Williamson of Orlando, FL; and 36 grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Mar. 15 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


EUNICE OWENS

Eunice Bell Phelps Oakes Owens, 75, of Greenville, widow of William Crayton Owens, died March 14, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Ezra Dwight and Lula Bell Herring Phelps. She was twice married, first to the late Charles Ray Oakes, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen Dalene Owens Davis of Greenville; sons, Michael Ray Oakes of Simpsonville, William Terry Owens of Lyman, Kim Douglas Owens of Laurens; sisters, Frances Guthrie of Pelzer, Doris Wheeler Crooks of Seneca; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Mar. 17 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home of a son, Mike Oakes, 133 Circle Slope Drive, Simpsonville and will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
