Harvey Alvin Taylor, 69, of Pelzer died March 5, 2008.

He was a son of the late Kelly Washington, Sr. and Inez Hilton Taylor. He was a member of Grove Station Baptist Church.

He is survived by son, Robert Harvey Taylor of Seneca; one sister; three brothers; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services were held March 9 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


ED FOWLER

PIEDMONT - Edwin “Ed” Ansel Fowler, 70, husband of Carolyn Browning Fowler, of 103 Meadow Green Drive, died Sunday, March 9, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Lawrence Ansel and Viva Lou Vaughan Fowler. He was a U.S. Army veteran and owner and operator of Fowler Trucking. He was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Greenville, the New Horizon Quartet, Grove Station Masonic Lodge #166, and was a Shriner.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Tammy Fowler Jacobs and her husband Timothy of Taylors; sons, Michael Edwin Fowler and his wife Iris of Simpsonville, Mark Anthony Fowler of Greenville; mother-in-law, Colie Welborn Browning of Williamston; brother, Jimmy Fowler of Charlotte, NC; and grandsons, Michael Blake Fowler, Chad Anthony Fowler, Ryan Porter Fowler, Timothy Travis Jacobs, Jared Reed Jacobs, Myles Alden Jacobs, and Carson Walker Jacobs.

Funeral serices were 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the New Testament Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Bradley, the Rev. Gene Neely, and the Rev. Ted Allston officiating. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends 6-8p.m. Monday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Memorials may be made to the New Testament Baptist Church Building Fund, 15 E. Fairfield Road, Greenville, SC 29605.


ETHYL E. CRUMPTON

Ethyl E. Crumpton, 82, of Greenville, died March 5, 2008. She was the widow of Grover C. Crumpton, Jr.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Frank S. and Dora Mae Smith Edwards. She was a member of Grove Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra F. Bishop of Williamston; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Wallace Edwards of Forest City, NC; and one sister, Patricia Jackson of Greenwood, IN.

Funeral services were held March 8 at Grove Road Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


KENNETH BOYKIN McCASKILL

Kenneth Boykin McCaskill, 81, husband of the late Doris Gaynor McCaskill died March 3, 2008 at his home.

Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late T.P. and Annie Colvin McCaskill. He retired from the U.S. Government as a research chemist. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter, April Caroline Satterfield of Piedmont; two sisters, Frances Catoe and Jewel Cribb, both of Lugoff; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were held March 8 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Pickens Senior Center, 129 Schoolhouse Street, Pickens, SC 29671.


LEVEIS IVESTER

Leveis Ivester, 84, of Pelzer, died March 7, 2008 at McCall Hospice Home in Simpsonville.

He was born in Habersham County, GA to the late Roland Ivester and the late Bell Norris Ivester.

He retired from the textile industry and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Hayes Ivester; sons, Anthony Leveis Ivester and Randy Curtis Ivester, both of Pelzer; sisters, Dorothy Ivester of Charlotte, NC and Mildred Jeffcoat of Greenville; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services were held March 10 at Greenville Memorial Gardens. Military rites were conducted at the graveside services.


J.T. ‘JAKE’ SHAW

J.T. “Jake” Shaw, 88, of Anderson, husband of Vivian Wooten Gilreath Shaw, died March 10, 2008 at his home.

Born in Anderson, the son of the late Ernest Shaw and Sennie Mitchell Shaw, he was retired from textiles and was of the Baptist faith.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

Surviving are four sons, James T. “Jim” Shaw of Anderson, Alvin A. Chambers of Piedmont, Randolph Chambers of Gaffney, and Robert L. Gilreath of Anderson; a daughter, Betty Sartin of Concord, NC; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kate McAfee of Anderson.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mazell Butler Shaw.

Graveside service with Military Honors was held March 12 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

KYNDEL SULLIVAN

PELZER - Kyndel Olivia Sullivan, 18, of 394 Alverson Road, died Monday, March 10, 2008.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of Larry Edward and Sheryl Lea Hanks Sullivan. She was a student at Greenville Technical College and worked for Ellen Woodside After School Day Care.

In addition to her parents of the home, she is survived by sister, Sheri Sullivan of Gray Court; brother, Tony Sullivan of Pelzer; maternal grandparents, Melvin and Marilyn Hanks of Piedmont; nephews, Codey and Gavin Vaughn, both of Gray Court; and her best friends, Brian, Betty and Crystal.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Charles and Betty Sullivan.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. John Smith, Mrs. Stephanie Reese, and Mrs. Ashley Gore officiating.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 322 N. Lauderdale Street, Box 318, Memphis, TN 38101.

CHARLES SMITH

Charles Smith, 67, of Williamston, died March 9, 2008.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Welfare Baptist Church in Belton. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The Unity Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family is at the home.


MARTHA LEATHERS WENNERBERG

Martha Leathers Wennerberg went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 after a 16 year long battle with breast cancer. She was born Martha Ellen Leathers on September 4, 1932 to James Allen and Claudia Kelly Leathers in Pelzer, SC. Martha’s mother died when she was only 3 days old and was raised by her aunt and uncle, John Thomas and Pearl Leathers Browning (adoptive parents). She is predeceased by her biological and adoptive parents and brothers and sisters, Virginia Leathers Chandler, Allen Rudolph Leathers, Harrison Browning,  Jack Browning, Almeada Browning Campbell and Charles Browning.

Martha accepted Christ and was baptized at age 12 at First Baptist Church, Pelzer, SC. She graduated Valedictorian from Pelzer High School in 1950. She was employed as a legal secretary while earning her Bachelor of Arts from Furman University, 1957. Martha earned her Master’s Degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1959. She served as Youth Director at Congress Heights Baptist Church, Washington, DC as well as First Baptist Church in Montgomery AL. Martha also served as the State Young Woman’s Auxiliary Director with the Alabama Woman’s Missionary Union.

Martha married Dr. Don Wennerberg in 1965 and moved to DeFuniak Springs, FL. She is survived by her husband, Don and two daughters, Jana W. Kenney and husband, John “Mo” Kenney of Lexington, KY; and Kim Wennerberg of DeFuniak Springs, FL. She is survived by two grandchildren, Nicholas Kenney and Jaden Kenney also of Lexington, KY.

She dearly loved her family and her Lord. Martha enjoyed cooking, reading, needlework, and she especially enjoyed watching football. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, DeFuniak Springs, FL. Martha sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. She was serving as Prayer Room Coordinator and Chairman of the Bereavement Committee at the time of her death.

She was active in the work of the Florida Baptist Convention, was Florida’s State Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) President and served on various Boards of Trustees. Martha was involved in activities of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), was National Recording Secretary for WMU of SBC, and at the time of her death was on the WMU Foundation Board of Trustees.

Visitation services wereconducted from 6-8pm Friday, March 7, 2008 at First Baptist Church, 216 East Live Oak Ave., DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435. Funeral services were conducted at 11 am on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry R. Chumley officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery.The family will accept flowers or memorials to the following: First Christian Academy, 216 East Live Oak Ave., DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435; WMU Foundation, PO Box 11346, Birmingham, AL 35202-1346.

 Arrangements and services were under the direction of Jerry Evans.
