JOHN HAROLD GREGORY, SR.

John Harold Gregory Sr., 84, died Mar. 13, 2007 at Laurel Baye Health Care.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Hubert Henry and Ina Ragsdale Gregory.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Piedmont.

Surviving are a son, John H. Gregory Jr. of Piedmont; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister, Vera Hunt.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sara Washington Gregory.

Graveside services were held Mar. 17 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

SYBIL GODFREY

Sybil Darby Godfrey, 90, of Pelzer, widow of Harold Fleming Godfrey, died Mar. 14, 2007.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late William Kirk and Clara Belle Davis Darby.

She was formerly employed by Mac Shore Classics and Wunda Weave Carpets and a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughters, Jean G. Estes and Faye G. Garrett, both of Pelzer; eight grandchilden; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Mar. 16 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.


MARTHA PILGRIM

WILLIAMSTON - Martha “Mot” McCall Giles Pilgrim, 81, wife of Leroy Pilgrim of 2 Macs Road, died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Alvin Augustus and Mae Sargent McCall, Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of the home; son, Steve Giles and his wife Wanda of Williamston; daughter, Rebecca Hall and her husband Robert of Greenville; step-son, David Pilgrim and his wife Rae of Culpepper, VA; twin sister, Dorothy “Dot” Woodcock and her husband Pete of Pelzer; brothers, Alvin McCall, Jr. and his wife Wanda of Greenville, Andrew McCall and his wife Hazel of Athens, TN; grandchildren, Greg Giles and his wife Tracy, Justin Hall, Jessica Hall and great-grandchild, Kendall Giles.

She was predeceased by brothers, Gordon Jones, Manley, Norman and Robert McCall, and sisters, Betty Fennell and Margaret Prater.

She was twice married, first to the late Earl Giles.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Mar. 20 at Gray Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Smith and Rev. Chris Lollis officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family was at the home and received friends from 7-8:30 Mar. 19 at the funeral home.

LESTER LONG, SR.

Lester Ray Long Sr., 80, widower of Mary Farrell Long, of Greer, died Mar. 18, 2007 at his home.

Born in Columbus, OH, he was a son of the late Jonathan and Carrie Lucille Martin Long. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran and retired from Thermo King.

Surviving are a daughter, Rose Zubko of Massapequa Park, NY; a son, Lester Long Jr., of Williamston; daughter, Linda Pinkel of Greenville; daughter, Carrie Rhem of Lyman; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

DON McABEE

Donald Ray McAbee, 61, of Pendleton, husband of Tonya Sanders McAbee, died Mar. 16, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late J.T. “Sack” McAbee. He was retired  from Michelin Tire, Sandy Springs and was an employee of Martin and Martin Auctioneers in Pelzer.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Six and Twenty Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Tonya of the home; sons, Brian McAbee of Piedmont and Robbie McAbee of Fairfax; one grandson; mother, Elsie Pepper McAbee; brother, Steve McAbee of Pendleton; and sister, Brenda McAbee of Columbia.

Funeral services were held Mar. 18 at Six and Twenty Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

ANNE WHEELER

Anne Lee Ross Wheeler, 76, of Easley, died Mar. 15, 2007 at Palmetto Health Baptist Easley.

Born in Jones Co., GA, she was the daughter of the late Festus and Tommy Lee Maynard Ross. She was a retired bookkeeper for Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Jeannie Marie Caison of Cumming, GA, Sheri Lee Turk of Cullowhee, NC, Susan Michelle Stegall of Fayetteville, NC, Sandra Lynn Gunton of Piedmont, Christina Wheeler of Easley; a son, Harry Lee Wheeler of Milledgeville, GA; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A graveside memorial service was held Mar. 18 at Macon Memorial Park in Macon, GA.

WALKER H. PRUITT

Walker H. Pruitt, 61, of Greenville, died Mar. 14, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Maggie A. Pruitt.

He retired from Metromont Materials. He was a member of Park Place Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Tumblin Pruitt of the home; two daughters, Pamela Hughey of Pelzer and Christie Johnston of Greenville; a son, Scott Pruitt of Greenville; five sisters, Polly Moses of Benton, AK, Margaret Parker of Travelers Rest, Evelyn Lewis of Greenville, Kathy Miller of Bluntville, AL and Dell Moore of Piedmont; three brothers, Tommy Pruitt of Easley, James Pruitt of Greenville and Darrell Pruitt of Columbia and a special brother, Randy Mills of Greenville; and ten grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Mar. 17 at Wrenn Memorial Baptist Church.


SANDRA COOLEY

Sandra Elaine Saylers Cooley, 56, wife of Thomas “Tommy” Michael Cooley, of Piedmont, died Mar. 16, 2007.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Ike and Sadie Price Saylers. She retired from Cytek and attended New Hope Baptist Church in Pelzer.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Thomas Michael Cooley, II and Benjamin Robert Cooley, both of Piedmont; daughter, Diana Michelle Farrow of Greenville; sisters, Betty Ann Clark of Richmond, VA, Bonnie Wylene Alverson of Simpsonville; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Mar. 21 in the old sanctuary of New Hope Baptist Church.


FREDERICK LINDLEY, SR.

Frederick Lindley, Sr., 77, husband of La Von Lindley of Piedmont, died Mar. 18, 2007 at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital.

He was born in Greenville County to the late B.F. and Lucille Culbertson Lindley. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from Greenville Machinery, and was a member of West Gantt First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Frederick Lindley, Jr. of Greer; step-daughter, Joan Larson of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; one step-grandson; and twin brother, Edward Lindley of Rock Hill.

Funeral services were held Mar. 21 at West Gantt First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

BONNIE GLENDOLA JONES

Bonnie Glendola Posey Jones, 63, of Easley, died Mar. 19, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital.

She was born in Pickens County to Jessie Mae Oglesby Posey and the late Ansel Posey.

She was formerly employed with the Clemson Extension Service and attended Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Dacusville.

Surviving are her husband, Robert C. Jones of the home; three daughters, Dianne Thompson of Liberty, Krystal Pitts of Dacusville and Wanda Kay Buckle of Gainesville, GA; a step-daughter, Cheryl Ratliff of Petal, MS; two step-sons, Daryl and Keith Jones, both of Meridian, MS; brother, Willard B. Posey of Piedmont; seven grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Mar. 21 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in Dacusville.Barbara B. Stevenson

Barbara B. Stevenson, 69, of Greenville, died Mar. 19, 2007.

Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Ruby Marchbanks Brown and wife of the late John Burl Stevenson.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Garner of Abbeville and Lisa Pruitt of Piedmont; five sons, Martin Gillespie of Moonville, Ronnie Stevenson of Powdersville, Benny Gillespie of Moonville, Dennis Gillespie of Greenville and Greg Stevenson of Belton; two sisters, Shelby Sanders of Easley and Linda Davenport of Liberty; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Mar. 22 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
