Charles H. Knight, of 714 Parkins Mill Road, Greenville, died Saturday, March 15, 2008. Born January 20, 1928, he was the son of the late Gettys Shaw and Janie Davenport Knight. He was a United States Army Veteran and of the Baptist Faith. He was the owner and president of Charles H. Knight Real Estate and was in partnership with Knight and Martin Builders and Developers. He retired from Duke Power Company Lee Steam Power Plant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Williamson Knight in 2002. Surviving are his two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Jim Thomas; Libby and Darrell Welborn, all of Simpsonville; and a sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Marion McDonald of Greenville. The family received friends Tuesday at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive. Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 18 at Greenville Memorial Gardens officiated by the Rev. Marshall Sargent. PELZER - Edna Aliene Dickerson Bagwell, 85, of 730 Cherokee Rd., widow of William Dub Fred Bagwell, Jr., died Saturday, March 15, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late John Terah and Ruthie Mae Stoner Dickerson. She was retired from Anderson School District One, following forty-two years of service. She was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church and attended White Plains Baptist Church. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Wayne Thomas of Williamston, sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Sandra Bagwell, John and Cathy Bagwell, all of Pelzer, five grandchildren, Mack Thomas, Michael, Jill, Daniel, Blake Bagwell. She was predeceased by two sisters, Eunice Dickerson and Joyce Turner. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday at White Plains Baptist Church by Revs. Mark Spearman and Les Shattuck. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson. The family is at the home of Don and Sandra Bagwell, 728 Cherokee Rd., Pelzer and received friends 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Martha Reba Daniel Vanhook, 82, of Travelers Rest, wife of the late Joseph Nelson Vanhook, died March 13, 2008. Born in Elberton, GA, she was a daughter of the late John O. and Alma T. Drennon Daniel. She was retired from Greenville Hospital and a member of New Liberty Baptist Church. Surviving is a daughter, Judy Gail Sylar of Ringgold, GA; five sons, Joseph Nelson Vanhook, Jr. of Cedar Mtn., NC, Norman Brown Vanhook of Travelers Rest, Oscar Preston Vanhook of Ringgold, GA, Luther Pete Vanhook of West Pelzer and George William Vanhook of Travelers Rest; four sisters, Pauline Brown, Lenora Harter, Ruby Bowen and Georgia Grumbles; three brothers, John Daniel, Rayford Daniel and James Buck Daniel; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Mar. 17 at New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. A memorial service followed at the church. Rev. William Haynie Epps, 56, husband of Diane Waters Epps of Belton, died March 14, 2008 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Rev. William James and Rachel Lloyd Epps. He was the Associate Pastor for Independent Church of God of Belton. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are: daughters, Wanda Epps Kanipe, Angela Epps Kanipe, both of Williamston and Christy Epps Friar of Belton; brother, Mike Epps of Belton; sisters, Mary Arflin of Honea Path, Susan McCollum of Belton and Diane Collins of Indiana; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held March 17 at Independent Church of God of Belton. Burial followed at Garden of Memories. Memorials may be made to Independent Church of God.
Professor William Emerson Hagood passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2008. Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late William and Ethel Lewis Hagood. He was a graduate of Benedict College, a retired educator, a basketball coach, a School Bus Supervisor and a Principal. Professor Hagood was a Mason, an avid checker player, a sports car enthusiast and a basketball fan. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, located in Travelers Rest, SC. He served faithfully as a member, a Sunday School Teacher and a Trustee. Professor Hagood was a Christian. Surviving are his wife, Sarah T. Hagood of the home; a daughter, Joan C. Hagood-Norris of Mauldin; a granddaughter, Atty. Javiere Sajorah Hagood Norris of Mauldin; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 20, 1:30 PM at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary, 1011 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC, with Elder George Thompson, Jr. and Dr. S.C. Cureton officiating and presiding. Interment will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Road, (Highway 25 South), Piedmont, SC.
