JENNIE LEE STARRETT

Jennie Lee Starrett, 74, of Greenville, died March 29, 2006 at home.

She was the daughter of Auby and Ora Harrison of Spruce Pine, NC. She was a member of Agape Baptist Church in Piedmont.

Surviving are her husband, Charlie Joe Starrett; two sons, Stephan Starrett of Greenville and Mark Starrett of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Jessie Snead of Ashford, NC, Lois Penley of Spruce Pine, NC, and Pearl Amick of Greensboro, NC.

Funeral services were held Mar. 31 at Agape Baptist Church, Piedmont. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

VERLYN BRUCE BROWN

Verlyn Bruce Brown of Central died March 28, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Franklin County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Almon Bruce and Julia Ida Burdette Bruce. She was a homemaker and was a member of Bishop Branch Baptist Church.

She was the widow of Lealon Brown Jr.

Surviving are sons, John A. Grubbs of Piedmont and Terry Gilstrap of Central and Hartwell, GA; daughters, Janice D. Stowe of Starr, Rachel Pelsue of North Dakota and Patricia Gilstrap of the home; a brother, Waybus Bruce of Liberty; and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mar. 31 at Woodlawn Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed in the Refuge Baptist Church cemetery.


MYRTLE WILKIE

Myrtle May Gates Wilkie, 81, of Piedmont, died March 30, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Dillsboro, NC, she was a daughter of the late John Homer and Fannie Catherine Queen Gates. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Albert Jackson Wilkie of the home; a son, Walter Hayes Wilkie of Inman; two brothers, Albert Gates of Cramerton, NC, and Robert Gates of Cherokee, NC; three sisters, Ethel Dillon of Columbia, Faye Boles of Fall River, MA, and Girlene Ledford of Newark, NJ; thee grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Apr. 1 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

GLENN S. LOOPER

Glenn Steele Looper, 71, husband of Quida Bruce Looper, of Pelzer, died on April 1, 2006 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Marshall Addison and Sarah Elizabeth Richardson Looper. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Gray Mortuary in Pelzer.

He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by his daughters, Glenda Lee Looper Eller of Pelzer, Rhonda E. Looper of Garfield, NJ; sisters, Olivia L. Bryant, Betty L. Addison, both of Pelzer; and brothers, Paul Looper of Laurens, and Tom Looper of Seneca.

Funeral services were held Apr. 4 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer. Burial followed in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

SARA JANE OLIVER

April 4, 1917 - March 28, 2006

WEST PELZER, SC - Sara Jane McBrearty Oliver, 88, widow of Hylan Leon Oliver, formerly of Park Street, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton, SC.

Born in Anderson, SS, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Agnes Olivia Dendy McBrearty. She was a member of the Pelzer Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, president of the Women of the Church, and was also a member of the Get Together Club of West Pelzer.

She is survived by three sons, Ben F. “Sonny” Ross of Clinton, Joe McBrearty Ross of Belton, and John Robert Ross of Navarre, FL; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, William D. “Buddy” Ross; and a brother, Captain John Dendy McBrearty.

Graveside services were held March 30 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC with Mr. Dale Harper officiating.

RUSSELL ALEXANDER

Russell Wayne Alexander, 28, of Iva, died March 29, 2006 in Beaumont, TX.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of Wayne Alexander and Deborah Charping Alexander of Iva. He was an electrician with Davis Electric. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a daughter, Kirstan Alexander of Piedmont; brother, Craig Alexander of Iva; fiancé, Candace Donald; grandparents, Bobby Joe and Carrie Sue Charping of Anderson and McCager and Maria Alexander of Starr.

Funeral services were held April 3 at Flat Rock Baptist Church. Interment followed in Alexander Cemetery in Salem.

EDGAR ‘ED’ BOGGS

Edgar Newton Boggs, 89, husband of Caroline Cromer Boggs, of Anderson, died March 31, 2006 at his home.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late S.V. Boggs and Cleo Bannister Boggs. He was a former car salesman and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Eureka Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by daughters, Brenda Spears of Anderson and Kim Higginbotham of Chapin; a brother, Jack Boggs of Williamston; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 3 at Eureka Baptist Church. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

JACK TRENTON LEAGUE, JR.

Jack Trenton League, Jr., of Simpsonville, died March 31, 2006.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of Maree Thomas League and the late Jack Trenton League, Sr.

He was employed with Sew-Eurodrive in Lyman and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia B. League of the home; two grandchildren; two sisters, Janet Miller of Pelzer and Jeannie Rozier of Savannah, GA.

Funeral services were held Apr. 3 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel. Burial followed in Graceland West Cemetery.


SHIRLEY ANN TEASLEY

Shirley Ann Teasley, wife of Lonnie Teasley, of Greenville, died at Greenville Memorial Hospital on April 1, 2006.

She was the daughter of Ira Martin and Blanche Jones Martin of Williamston; mother of Kevin T. Brown of Omaha, NE; and sister of Irish Stroman of Columbia.

Funeral services were held Apr. 5 at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Piedmont.


REV. EARL SARGENT

The Rev. Earl Hampton Sargent, 98, of Greenville, retired Baptist Minister, widower of Helen Stone Sargent, died April 2, 2006.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late J. Frank Sargent and Argel Dickson Sargent.

The Rev. Sargent served churches in Anderson, Oconee, Greenville and Pickens Counties. He retired in 1973 from Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer.

Surviving are two daughters, Doris S. Batson of North Augusta and Mary S. Hawkins of Greenville; a son, Dr. Marshall Earl Sargent of Greenville; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two brothers, Lester Sargent of Greenville and Talmadge Sargent of Pendleton.

Funeral services were held Apr. 4 at The Mackey Mortuary. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

ANN BUSH

Elizabeth Ann Talley Bush, 69, wife of James Moody Bush, of Piedmont, died April 3, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hazel Mahon Talley and retired from Kemet.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Sheila Starkey of Piedmont, Donna Maddocks of Greenville; son, Chris Bush of Pelzer; brother, Jimmy Talley of Travelers Rest; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Apr. 6 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.

MARY MILLER

Mary Louise Heatherly Kellett Miller, 65, wife of Don Miller, of Belton, died April 4, 2006 at her home.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of Louise Garrett Heatherly of Belton and the late Thomas Haude Heatherly. She retired from J. P. Stevens and was a member of Fork Shoals Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by daughters, Angie Duckworth of Columbus, OH, Tammy Landreth of Pelzer; five step-children, all of Ohio; brothers, Thomas Heatherly of Williamston, James “Shorty” Heatherly of Pelzer; and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Apr. 7 at Fork Shoals Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Family members are at their respective homes and will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Apr. 6 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


JANIE MERGEL

Janie Marie Mergel, infant daughter of Michael and Rebecca Dennison Mergel of Pelzer, died April 3, 2006.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Kerry Michael; sister, Kimberly Grace, both of the home; grandparents, Grace Dennison of Williamston, and Ilse Mergel of Barefoot Bay, FL.

Funeral services will be held Apr. 8 at 2 p.m. at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Union City, PA.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Apr. 7 at the funeral home.


DONNIE JOE MOODY

Donnie Joe Moody, 48, of Easley, died April 3, 2006.

He was born in Greenville County, a son of the late Buford and Maxi Lee Coggins Moody. He was employed by Canteen Vending, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Gap Hill Church of God.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home, are four children, Jason L. Moody of Greer, Andrea Bradley of Easley, Rodney Anderson of Piedmont and Andrew Anderson of the home; sisters, Frances “Bunny” Stephens of Greer and Sandra Craft of Greenville; and brothers, Robert Moody of Travelers Rest and Eddie Moody of Pickens.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.  on April 6 at Gap Hill Church of God. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.


OLIN CURTIS OLIVER

Olin Curtis Oliver, 85, of Anderson, husband of Nellie Herron Oliver, died April 4, 2006 at Westside Living Center, Greenville.

Born in Pickens, he was the son of the late Ruben Crayton Oliver and the late Lenora Chapman Oliver. He retired from J. T. Melton Co. He was a Veteran and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Anderson.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Gerald Oliver and Dale Oliver, both of Anderson; daughter, Diane Holland of Anderson; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, a brother, James Oliver of Piedmont.

Funeral service will be held on April 6 at 3 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


PATRICIA ANN R. KAY

Patricia Ann Robinson Kay, of Liberty, died April 1, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. 

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Terry and Alma Sarah Richey Robinson.

She was Employee Coordinator for the City of Clemson and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, James Carlyle Kay of the home; sons, David Russell Kay of Liberty and Roger Dale Kay of Piedmont; sisters, Marie Robinson Newell of Pickens and Genelle Robinson Pirnes of Liberty; and a brother, Roy Terry Robinson of Lilburn, GA.

Funeral services were held Apr. 3 at Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Liberty Memorial Gardens.
