MARY R. TANNER

Mary Robinson Tanner, 80, of Piedmont, and formerly of Easley, died  April 17, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Carrollton, GA, a daughter of the late Florence and Novice Johnson Robinson. She retired from Carolina Blouse of Greenville and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Robert D. Tanner of the home; and a sister, Evelyn Gammon of Stone Mountain, GA.

Funeral services were held Apr. 19 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road. Entombment followed in the chapel of Reflection Mausoleum at Robinson Memorial Gardens, Easley.

Memorials may be made to The Building Fund of Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, SC 29642.


GERALD SIMMONS

Calvin Gerald Simmons, 66, husband of Linda Lou Hedden Simmons of Belton, died April 21, 2006 at AnMed Health in Anderson.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Whitney Gustivus Simmons and Bernice Alexander Simmons Smith.

He was retired owner of Gerald Simmons Body Shop and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home; three daughters, Lee Morris, Lynn Ellison and Lisa Morgan, all of Williamston; son, Chris Simmons of Belton; brother, Mike Simmons of Belton; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 24 at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.


CLYDE J. LEDFORD

Clyde Junior Ledford, 84, husband of Willie Mae Smith Ledford, died April 21, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital.

He was born in Murrayville, GA, a son of the late Frank and Artie Sullens Ledford.

Surviving in addition to his wife are, six children, Carol Mullen, Marlene Linder, Sammy Ledford, Rhonda Boozer, Wayne Ledford, and Ricky Ledford; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother; and four sisters.

Memorial service was held April 24 at New Haven Christian Fellowship, Hwy. 25.

CLAUDIA BREAZEALE SMITH

Claudia Breazeale Smith, 89, widow of the late James Albert Smith, of Belton, died April 20, 2006 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Dellie Elrod Breazeale. She was a teacher at Matthews Elementary School in GA, Pelzer Elementary School in Pelzer, and Belton Elementary School in Belton.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, James DeRee Smith of Savannah, GA and Johnny Lee Smith of Belton; sister, Catherine B. Lollis of Easley; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Apr. 23 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Garden of Memories.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Belton.


COLEY SEIGLER, SR.

Walter Coley Seigler, Sr., 66, of Pelzer, died April 23, 2006 at his home.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Joseph Coley and Blanche Marie Smith Seigler. He was a professional truck driver and a Baptist.

Surviving are sons, Billy Jean Seigler of Williamston, James Earl Seigler of Greenwood, Walter Coley “Buddy” Seigler, Jr. of Honea Path; daughter, Charity Lynnette “Lynn” Babb of Missouri; brothers, Donald Ray Seigler of Piedmont, Marshall Earl Seigler of Pelzer; sister, Judy Locke of Pelzer; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services were held Apr. 26 at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.


BILLY BRIGHT

Billy Bright, 77, of Greenville, widower of Evelyn Spencer Bright, died April 24, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital.

A native of Greer, son of the late William B. Bright and Pearline Campbell Bright Collier, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Fiber Industries. He was a member of Parisview Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Michael D. Bright of Pelzer; three daughters, Barbara Thomas, Phyllis Roberts, and Rachel Bright, all of Greenville; a sister, Melinda Casey of Williamston; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Apr. 27 at The Wood Mortuary. Burial will follow  in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

CHRISTINA HOWARD

Christina Howard, 39, of Piedmont, died April 23, 2006.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of Bobby Joe Fowler of Greenville and Martha Cothran Fuller of Greenville. She was the wife of the late Jerry Allan Howard.

She worked in property management and was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a daughter, Jessica Marie Howard of Piedmont; two sons, Justin Allan Howard and Joshua Kyle Howard, both of Piedmont; a brother, Joseph D. Fowler of Greenville; and a grandmother, Frances C. Hamm of Greenville.

Funeral services were held Apr. 26 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


LINDA K. BURNETT

Linda Kay Burnett, 60, of Pelzer, died April 24, 2006.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Effie Holder Bishop.

She was employed at Research Inc. and was a member of Woodside Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Roy Benjamin Burnett, Jr. of the home; three daughters, Susan Reid of Greenville, Brenda Burch of Pickens and Sharon Coiner of Greenville; a son, David Burnett of Naples, FL; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Apr. 26 at Graceland West Cemetery.

DARLENE KAY GREEN

Darlene Kay Green, 38, died Apr. 23, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Leonard and Joyce Burnett.

Surviving are her husband, Ricky Green; three daughters, Rhonda and Pansy Green of the home and Mary Thorton of Taylors; two brothers, Lenny Burnett of Gray Court and Franklin Fleming of Pelzer; a sister, Annie McGowan of Greer; and one grandson.

Funeral services were held Apr. 26 at Mountain View Cemetery.


GRACE HAMMOND GOSNELL

Grace Hammond Gosnell, 85, formerly of Greenville, died April 23, 2006 at Westside Nursing Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late James and Mallie Lollis Hammond, and wife of the late David J. Gosnell.

She was the owner of David’s Cafe and retired from Greenville County School System. She was a member of Woodside Church of God.

Surviving are a daughter, Kay Norris of Easley; two sons, David H. Gosnell of Chattanooga, TN, and Darrell Gosnell of Greenville; a brother, Ralph Hammond of Piedmont; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Apr. 25 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.


DOROTHY IRENE KESSEL

Dorothy Irene Crawford Kessel, 81, widow of the late Thomas W. Kessel, of Fayetteville, NC, died April 18, 2006 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Haskell Lee Crawford and Alice Stanton Crawford. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Williamston and was a retired textile worker.

Surviving are a sister, Joanne Carter of Fayetteville, NC.

Funeral services were held Apr. 22 at Calary Baptist Church.  Burial followed in Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.H. 


WILTON ‘POP’ KIRBY

Herbert Wilton “Pop” Kirby, 71,  of Honea Path,  husband of Laura Timms Kirby, died April 25, 2006, at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Claude Wilton and Eula Maude Ridgeway Kirby.   He was retired from Monsanto and a longtime employee of Belton Exxon and Belton BP. He was of the Holiness faith.

Surviving are his wife of the home; two sons, David Kirby of Honea Path, Larry Kirby of Belton; two daughters, Cheryll Branyon of Honea Path and Patti Moseley of Anderson; two brothers, Bill Kirby of Simpsonville and Glenn Kirby of Piedmont; five sisters, Vera Davis, Dot Strawhorn, Hazel Thompson and Zelphia Garrett, all of Honea Path, and Margaret Medlock of Simpsonville; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Apr. 27 at Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.

JOSEPH ‘JOE’ BANNISTER

Joseph “Joe” T. Bannister, 52, died April 24, 2006 at his home.

A native of Piedmont, he was the son of Fleet Banister of Piedmont    and the late Mary Smith Banister.

He was a funeral director and former owner of Bannister Transportation. He was a member of Earle Street Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his father are his lifelong partner, Christine Shriver; daughter, Jodi Hedden; mother, Jean Bannister; a grandson; and a brother, Al Bannister.

Memorials may be made to Greenville Shriners Hospital, 950 W. Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605-4277.

Graveside services will be held April 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens. A celebration of his life will be held at the residence, 205 Redcliffe Road, Greenville, immediately following.
