ETHEL BRYANT

Ethel Merritt Bryant, 75, widow of Winston Jasper Bryant, of Piedmont, died April 16, 2008 at Oakmont West Nursing Center.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Charles Vaulter and Edith Childers Merritt. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.

Surviving are daughters, Lynn Sweet and Sandra Wood, both of Piedmont; brothers, J.D. Merritt and Rufus Merritt, both of Easley; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 18 in the mausoleum chapel of Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.


ELIZABETH ADAMS

Elizabeth Jordan Adams, 85, formerly of Williamston, widow of Henry Adams, died April 15, 2008 at Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Odessa Middleton Jordan and a homemaker.

She is survived by two children, Phillip and Joan; a sister, Mary Earl Kelley of Anderson; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 21 in the mausoleum chapel of Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


DONNIE WILSON

GREENVILLE -  Claude Donald “Donnie” Wilson, 61, husband of Jane Williams Wilson, of 7 Green Arbor Lane, died Friday, April 18, 2008, at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of Mary Cook Wilson and the late William Jasper Wilson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from Duke Energy. He was a member of the Holly Ridge Baptist Church, where he loved teaching the Children’s Sunday School Class and VBS, was a former Board member of Rolling Green Village, and worked with Habitat for Humanity.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Williams Wilson of the home; mother, Mary Cook Wilson of Anderson; daughter and son-in-law, Robin Michele and Chris Hendrix of Easley; brothers and sisters-in-law Jerry and Judy Wilson of Anderson, Dale and Malinda Wilson of Orangeburg; father-in-law, Thomas Williams of Belton; and granddaughters, Meghan and Audrey Hendrix.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday at Whitefield Baptist Church with Dr. J.T. Cromer, Dr. Ron Fousek, and the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home and received friends Sunday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and that memorials be made to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680, or to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.


MRS. JO B. CREAMER

Josephine “Jo” Branyon Creamer, wife of John Creamer died April 15, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Arthur M. Branyon and Emily McCurley Branyon. She retired from Gates and Chapman Firestone. She was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, John Creamer; son, Michael K. Creamer; two grandchildren; one sister, Ollie Hiott; and one brother, Malcolm Branyon.

Graveside service was held April 18 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Whitefield Baptist Church, 207 Mitchell Road, Belton, SC 29627.


DORIS SHIRLEY

Doris Elizabeth Holliday Shirley, 78, of Pelzer, wife of Bill Shirley, died April 18, 2008 at her home.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late William Grady and Ruth Looper Holliday. She retired from SCN Bank in Greenville and was a member of First Baptist Church of Piedmont.

Surviving are husband, Bill Shirley of the home; brother, Thomas S. Holliday of Greenville; and sisters, Yvonne Miller of Seneca and Pearl Tuten of Greenville.

Memorial services were held April 20 at the First Baptist Church of Piedmont.

MARGARET HANNAH

Margaret Delree Garrett Hannah, 67, formerly of Belton, widow of Donald Hannah, died April 19, 2008 at Embracing Hospice in Cumming, GA.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Clarence J. and Sarah Emma Williams Garrett, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Donna Hannah Walls of Cumming, GA; son, Donnie Hannah of Liberty; seven sisters; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 21 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


MARGARET GILLESPIE

Margaret Ann Hall Shelton Gillespie, 70, of Pelzer, widow of Joe Earl Gillespie, died April 19, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Willie Mae Lewis Hall. She was formerly employed by J.P. Stevens, Parker Plant and a member of Emmanuel Full Gospel Tabernacle in Piedmont.

Surviving are daughter, Sheila Wyle of Easley; step-sons, Joe Earl Gillespie, Jr., Timothy Gillespie, both of Pelzer, John Gillespie, Shannon Gillespie, both of Williamston; brothers, Bill Hall of Piedmont, Leonard Hall, George Hall, both of Greenville; sisters, Betty Arnold of Piedmont, Roslyn Christopher of Greenville, Kay Roberts of Columbia, Linda Palmer and Brenda Bridwell, both of the Woodside Community; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held April 22 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


LAURA STEWART BLADES

Laura Stewart Blades, wife of the late Christopher Blades of New York, died April 17, 2008 at Magnolia Place of Greenville.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Jessie and Alice Young Stewart. She was a member of the Worldwide Church of God.

Surviving are brother; Dr. C.C. Stewart of Piedmont.

At her request, there will be no service.


VIRGINIA ‘MEMA’ VAUGHN

WILLIAMSTON - Virginia “MeMa” Meeks Vaughn, 83, widow of Martin Earl Vaughn, of 211 Sullivan Street, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Jim Lewis and Clara Jane Riddle Meeks. She retired from Mt. Vernon in Williamston and was also a retired beautician. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Williamston, the Faith Bible Class, worked in the nursery, and was the Preschool Sunday School teacher for over thirty years.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Tom Hagan of Due West, daughter, Valerie Ford of Belton; and grandson, Marty Ford.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Marvin, Roy and J.C. Meeks.

Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Mark Roberts officiating. Members of the Faith Bible Class of Calvary Baptist Church served as honorary escort. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and received friends 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

AGNES McCUEN

Annie Agnes Masters McCuen, 86 of Fountain Inn, widow of Hoyt McCuen, died April 21, 2008 at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late John Tillman and Bonnie Slaton Masters. She was retired from Model’s Coat Manufacturing and a member of Emmanuel Christian Fellowship.

Surviving are daughters, Wanda Jeanette Hensley of Fountain Inn, Brenda Ledford of Gray Court, Bonnie Pace Vaughn of Williamston; son, Hoyt McCuen, Jr., of Pelzer; brother, Norman Masters of Fountain Inn; sisters, Virginia Knight and Carolyn Shaw, both of Belton, Evelyn Knight of Gray Court, Ruth Templeton of Pelzer; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 23 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


LINDA McKINNEY

Linda McKinney, 61, of Greenville, died April 19, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of Betty Sherred Thurmond of Williamston and the late Lewis McCullough.

Surviving in addition to her mother, is her husband, Robert McKinney, Sr.; daughter, Ailisha McKinney of the home; sons, Alan and Darrell McKinney, both of Greenville, Rodney McKinney of Easley and Robert McKinney, Jr. of the home; sisters, Vanessa and Valerie Thurmond, both of Williamston and Virginia Henderson of Simpsonville; brothers, Russell Thurmond of Williamston and Mark Thurmond of Piedmont; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. April 24 at Flat Rock Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


THELMA FETNER

WILLIAMSTON - Thelma Audrey Ellison Fetner, 78, wife of James Howard Fetner, of 408 McAlister Road, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Miles Richard and Della Breazeale Ellison. She retired from Mt. Vernon Mills, was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church, and the Ruth Sunday School Class.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Brian Martin of Pelzer; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sherry Fetner of Williamston; sister, Edith Whitlock; brother, Jerald Ellison, both of Williamston; and grandchildren Hannah and Tony Sharbo, Jacob Fetner, Nathan Martin, Landon Martin, and Trevor Fetner.

She was predeceased by a son, Terry Dale Fetner; four sisters, Kathleen Martin, Gladys McAlister, Doris Beddingfield, and Luvia Thompson; and four brothers, Hulet Ellison, Douglas Ellison, Kenneth Ellison, and William Hoke Ellison.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Whitefield Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles Strickland, the Rev. Dr. Ron Fousek, and the Rev. Jimmy Smith officiating. Members of the Ruth Sunday School Class will serve as honorary escort. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at 104 Robinwood Lane, Pelzer, and will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
