Mary Ruth Huffman, 65, of Greenville, died April 25, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Carroll Huffman; three daughters, Joyce Estep of Greenville, Carolyn Willis of Marietta, and Mary Louise Whelan of Pelzer; a sister, Jo Ann Moody of Travelers Rest; ten grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Apr. 28 at Cedar Lane Assembly of God. Burial followed in Coleman Memorial Cemetery.
Morris Allen Davenport, 73, husband of Doris Elizabeth Hughey Davenport, of Simpsonville, died April 24, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Mack Duffie and Bessie O. Davenport. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from REA Express and was a Baptist. In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by stepdaughters, Deborah Allen, Sandra Bryson, both of Conestee and Terri Pangle of Pelzer; sisters, Juanita Pressley of Fountain Inn, Clemis Owens of Simpsonville, Doris Humphrey of Columbia and Jean Atwell of Greenville; brothers, Larry Davenport and Douglas Davenport, both of Simpsonville; nine stepgrandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. Graveside services with military rites were held Apr. 27 at Simpsonville City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Caring House, 2800 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.
Veldee Joe Cooper, 90, husband of Gladys Helen White Cooper, of Piedmont, died April 26, 2006 at Hospice House in Anderson. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late DeWitt and Elvie Campbell Cooper. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from J.P. Stevens, Piedmont Plant and was a member of the Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy. He helped establish and build numerous churches. He was also a chaplain at Perry Correctional and a founder of Home with a Heart. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Joe Cooper, Jerry Cooper, both of Piedmont, Jay Cooper of Grass Valley, CA, Ted Cooper of Seneca; brothers, M.J. Dolly Cooper, Tal Cooper, both of Piedmont; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Apr. 28 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Martha Ann Gambrell King, 71, of Pelzer, widow of Samuel Randolph King, died April 30, 2006 at her home. Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Madison and Inez Long Gambrell. She formerly worked at Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of Pelzer First Baptist Church. Surviving are daughters, Martha Elizabeth Beth Styles of Westminster, Cynthia Ann Chandler of the home; sons, Clyde Richard King of Fountain Inn, Samuel Douglas King of Moore; sisters, Dot Quinn of Union, Sybil Clem of Hartwell, GA, Grace Poole of Gray Court; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held May 1 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
James Pelham Chasteen, 86, widower of the late Ruth Elizabeth Chapman Chasteen, formerly of Williamson, died April 28, 2006 at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Lemon Seymore and Emma Coker Chasteen. He was a member of Williamston First Baptist Church. He retired from Cushman Mill. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a former Chief of the Williamston Rescue Squad. Surviving are son, Danny M. Chasteen of Williamston; and two grandchildren. Memorial service was held April 30 at Williamston First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Williamston First Baptist Church Building Fund.Shane L. Porter Shane Lee Porter, 21, husband of Tiffany Fuller Porter of Williamston, died April 28, 2006 at his home. Born in Anderson, he was the son of John Winfield Porter and Angela Pearson Porter of Williamston. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife of the home; parents, John and Angela Porter of the home; two sisters, Tiffany P. Parker of Anderson and Angela Renee Porter of the home; grandmother, Eunice Faye Porter of Anderson and grandfather, Jerry Pearson of Nashville, TN. Graveside service was held May 2 at New Silverbrook Cemetery.
Annie Elizabeth Mullikin Keasler, 86, of Lebanon Community, wife of the late John William Keasler, died April 29, 2006 at National Health Care of Anderson. She was born in Anderson County to the late Foster Mullikin and the late Emma Hall Mullikin. She retired from Anderson Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Don Keasler of Pendleton and Gary Keasler of Anderson; two daughters, Doris Dacus of Pelzer and Linda Waring of Seneca and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 1 at Lebanon Baptist Church. Interment followed at Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery. Willie Mae Cantrell, 62, of Sandy Springs Community, wife of William Bobby Cantrell, died April 29, 2006 at her home. Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late JD Foster and the late Bessie Foster. She retired from Michelin. She attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple. She is survived by daughter, Janet Griffin of Iva; one grandson; two brothers, Charles Foster of Anderson and James Foster of Pickens; two sisters, Gladys Murphy of Williamston and Mary Nell of Liberty. Funeral service was held May 2 at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central. Burial followed in Memory Gardens in Clemson. Elbert Mountarville Ledford, 92, of Piedmont, died April 27, 2006. Born in Otto, NC, he was the son of the late Arville Mont and Cora Messer Ledford. He attended Clemson University and retired from Mills Mill in Greenville. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist, Easley. Surviving are three daughters, Harriet L. Mahaney of Lawrencevile, GA, Patricia A. Gray of Piedmont and Rhonda L. Patterson of Simpsonville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;; and one great-great-grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Scoggin Ledford. Funeral services were held Apr. 29 in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. INterment followed in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. Mark Alvin Posey, 43, died April 27, 2006 at his home. Born in Greenville County, he was the son of Alvin and Joyce Maxine Posey. He was employed with the Greenville County School District and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Laura Watson Posey; sons, Joshua Lee Posey, Joseph Arthur Alvin Posey; sisters, JoEllen Turner of Pelzer, Joyce Hardin of Taylors; brother, Thomas McCreary of Travelers Rest; and one grandson. Funeral services were held Apr. 30 at The Howze Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Coleman Memorial Cemetery.
John Jim B. Barbre Jr. died Apr. 30, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late John B. Barbre Sr. and the late Mae League Barbre. He retired from John D. Hollingsworth. He was a Korean War veteran and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Barbre; five sons, Bobby Barbre, Ronnie Barbre, Eddie Barbre, Tony Barbre and Gary Barbre, all of Fountain Inn; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Clyde Barbre; and four sisters, Sara Bagwell, Lucille Barbre, Ruby Kelley and Mary Merritt, all of Piedmont. Funeral services were held May 3 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in Cannon Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
William Robert Holcombe, 81, of Greenville, died April 29, 2006 at Country Side Village in Easley. Born in Greenville County, he was the husband of Christine Bowen Holcombe and the son of the late Avery and Lila Beatty Holcombe. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Palmetto Loom and Reed Company. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Linda Holcombe Cleveland of Piedmont and Robin Holcombe Lance of Greenville; a son, Wayne Holcombe of Easley; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 2 at Thomas McAfee Funeral HOme, Northeast chapel, with burial in Graceland West Cemetery.
Edna Fuller Worley, 81, of Anderson, wife of the late Robert E. Worley, died April 27, 2006 at AnMed Health Center. Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Cooper Bennett Fuller and Lela Reed Fuller. She was a homemaker and was of the Assembly of God faith. She is survived by four sons, David Worley of Rosedale, VA, Bill Worley of Williamston, Carl Worley of Anderson, and Mike Worley of Travelers Rest; two sisters, Bobbie Speed and Helen Linker both of Anderson; ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held April 29, 2006 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson, SC.
Patsy Jo Hightower Tarrant, 71, wife of Joe Robert Tarrant, of Piedmont, died Apr. 30, 2006 at her home. Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Claude and Sallie Broome Hightower. She retired from Swiss-Tex in Piedmont and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Ann Tarrant Clardy of Lexington; sons, Roger Tarrant, Dale Tarrant, both of Greenville, Randy Tarrant of Williamston; ten grandchildren; five sisters; and four brothers. Funeral services were held May 3 at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Leroy Wood, 61, of Woodruff, died May 1, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was born in Harlan County, KY, to the late Roy Wood and Elizabeth Day Wood. He was employed by Robbie D. Woods Trucking Company. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Jeloise Campbell Wood; a son, Richard Wood stationed in Japan; a daughter, Melissa Wood of Fountain Inn; a brother, Freddie Wood of Pickens; sisters, Sue Cassell of Sunset, Katherine Davis of Evarts, KY, Ann Sanders of Williamston, Judy Chastain of Pickens, Shirley Hendricks of Easley, Joann Sanders of Pickens, and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. May 4 at Cannon Funeral and Cremations, Fountain Inn. Burial will follow in Cannon Memorial Park.
Clarence Albert Breazeale, 86, of Seneca, died April 29 at Oconee Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Judge and Emma Latimer Breazeale and husband of Barbara Ann Perry Breazeale of the home. He was a member of New Promiseland Baptist Church of Westminster. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Clarence Edward Breazeale and J.B. Breazeale of Seneca; five daughters, Charlotte Chappelle of Central, Loretta Jenkins, Cordelia Breazeale and Linda Earl of Seneca, Sharon Donald of Pelzer; two stepchildren, Vanessa Hardy of Buffalo, NY, Keith Hardy of St. Paul, MN; one brother, Grady Breazeale of Cleveland, OH; five sisters, Louise Jolly and Josephine Miller of Montezuma, GA, Ethel Grant, Nellie Williams and Virginia Kay of Westminster; 13 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held May 3 at the Seneca Family Life Center. Burial followed in Oconee Memorial Park.
Richard Steven Echols, 56, of Pelzer, died April 30, 2006. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late William Charles Bill and Cary Langston Echols. He was a former employee of Southern Weaving and Precision Weaving and was a member of Daybreak Community Church. Surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Echols Crain of Taylors; two stepdaughters, Sherry McIntosh of Greenville and Vicky Ireland of Houston, TX; two sisters, Faye E. Brock of Easley and Kenni E. Darnell of Simpsonville; two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held May 4 at 1:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Visitation will be prior to service. Allen Yank Doc R. Covairt, 46, of Welford, died April 30, 2006. He was the son of the late William Covairt and Mary Ellen Covairt of Spartanburg. He was a retired truck driver. Surviving in addition to his mother, are his fiancee, Wanda Lancaster of the home; a daughter, Laura Covairt of Piedmont; two sisters, Donna Rogers of Duncan and Sue Scruggs of Blue Ridge; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Stribling Funeral Home Chapel in Duncan May 4 at 5 p.m. Visitation will be from 4 to 4:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. |
