SYBIL ATKINS

September 14, 1926-May 3, 2007

WILLIAMSTON - Sybil Ashley Atkins, 80, widow of Jerry Walter Atkins, formerly of Williamston, died Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Carl and Viola Mason Ashley. She retired from Mount Vernon and was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Jimmy Ford of Honea Path; sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Rita Atkins of Williamston, Jerry and Beverly Atkins of West Pelzer; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Edith Lorraine Atkins.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 5 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with Mr. Dale Harper and the Rev. Carrie Bowen officiating. Entombment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of Jerry and Beverly Atkins, 265 Holliday Street, West Pelzer and received friends 6-8p.m. Friday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


HELEN ELIZABETH CARTEE KING

Helen Elizabeth Cartee King, 88, formerly of Greenville, died May 1, 2007 at Riverside Living Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late W.W. and Lizzie McAlister Cartee and the wife of the late R.A. King.

She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Janice K. Edwards of Pedmont; a sister, Elizabeth C. Walker of Greenville; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held May 3 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed at Graceland Cemetery, West.


DALE COLWILL

Dale Leroy Colwill, 71, husband of Kathryn Prescott Colwill, of Pelzer, died May 2, 2007 at his home.

Born in Sioux Falls, SD, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Florence Winterton Colwill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, retired from Bell South, and a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Jackie Beales, Darlene Colwill, Stephanie Thompson; son, Charlie Thompson; sister, Helen Graves of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Delbert Colwill of Boseman, MT, Teben Colwill of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 5 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Beaverdam Baptist Church, 1904 Beaverdam Rd., Williamston, SC 29697.


WADE McALLISTER

Wade Douglas McAllister, 78, of Belton, widower of Judy Elaine Cooley McAllister, died May 2, 2007 at his home.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Johnnie Lee McAllister.

Surviving are son, Wade Douglas McAllister, Jr. of the home; daughter, Johnnie Lee Barton of Gray Court; step-son, Eddie Hawkins of Belton; step-daughter, Gloria Davenport of Pelzer; brother, Charles Ray McAllister of Anderson;  twelve grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held May 6 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


BILLY WAYNE HARPER

Billy Wayne Harper, 72, husband of Doris Picklesimer Harper of Williamston, died May 5, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Lynchburg, VA, he was a son of the late H.H. and Juanita Godfrey Harper. He was an Air Force veteran, retired from Mt. Vernon Mills, a member of the Williamston Fire Department, and member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home, sister, Cathy H. Gillespie of Williamston and brother, Dale Harper of Williamston.

Funeral services were held May 6 at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.


MARVIN OXFORD

Marvin Willis Oxford, 74, husband of Dorothy “Dot” Moree Oxford of Piedmont, died May 5, 2007 at his home.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa, he was a son of the late Russell Valentine and Lucille Elizabeth Hamm Oxford. He was an Air Force veteran, retired from the American Red Cross and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, Kimberly Elizabeth Oxford of the home; son, Timothy Oxford of Anderson; brother, Russell Oxford of Seattle, WA; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 8 at Calvary Baptist Church. Entombment followed in Graceland East Mausoleum.

FRANK AUSTIN

Douglas Franklin “Frank” Austin, 70, husband of Nellie Ruth Capell Austin, of Piedmont, died May 6, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Anniss Bolden Austin. He formerly owned Austin’s BP and was a member of Grove Station Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Douglas Austin of the home; and sister, Sandra Davis of Pelzer.

Cryptside services were held May 9 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Greenville Memorial Gardens.

TERESA DIANE KING SIMPSON

Teresa Diane King Simpson of Pelzer, died Feb. 27, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her son, Tobey King of Pelzer; and daughter, Andrea Simpson of Pelzer; two step-sons, Adam and Andy Simpson of Pelzer; mother, Carolyn J. King of Pelzer; and sister, Shelia Peeler of Pelzer.

She was the daughter of the late Ellis King. She was cremated.

Memorials may be made to Ware Place Church of God.
