Bobby C. Steadings, 64, husband of Shelby Steadings of Piedmont, died July 6, 2007 at his home. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Ruby Lee Clark. He was retired from Walkers Trucking Company. Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, Melissa Steadings of the home; son, Bobby Dean Steadings of Piedmont; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; step-parents, Frank and Freddie Lark of Piedmont; two sisters, Rebecca Rochester and Sharon Sanders, both of Piedmont; brother, William Bill Lark of Piedmont. Funeral services were held July 9 at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Frank Lee Manley, 85, husband of the late Dorothy Coleman Manley died July 1, 2007 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. Born in Franklin County, GA, he was a son of the late John Tom Manley and Laura Carey Manley. He served in the United States Navy Veteran during World War II. He owned and operated Manleys Exxon Station and was a member of Barnettes Grove Cathedral of Love. He is survived by four sons, John E. Manley of Carson, California, Jimmy L. Manley, Jerry F. Manley and Jacky R. Manley, all of Pendleton; two sisters, Jessie Mae Reynolds of Piedmont and Mozell Brown of Pendleton; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A graveside service with full military honors was held July 3 at Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.
Butch Eugene Langford, 58, of Pelzer, husband of Charlotte McDavid Langford, died July 3, 2007 at his home. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Kenneth Eugene Langford and Kathleen Goodlett Langford Dilleshaw. He was retired from Michelin and was a member of Eastview Baptist Church. He was a United States Disabled Army Veteran. Surviving, in addition to his wife are a son, Kenneth R. Langford of Pelzer; a sister, Mary Ellen Holmesley of Greenville; two grandchildren; and stepfather, Wayne C. Dilleshaw of Greenville. Funeral services were held July 5 at Lickville Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Lena Mae Thomerson Austin, 89, died July 4, 2007 in Durham, NC. Surviving are three daughters, Linda Austin Brown of Piedmont, Mary Helen Crew and Ann Carol Groverstein, both of Durham, NC; two brothers; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 7 at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Durham, NC.
Doris Jones Massey, 61, of Greenville, died June 28, 2007. Born in Greenville, she was the daugher of the late Henry Walton Jones and Willie Lois Gaines Jones. Surviving are her husband, Stanley Joe Massey of Greenville; five sons, Joey Massey and Michael Massey, both of Greenville, Kenneth C. Waldrop of Easley, Jerry Wayne Waldrop of Piedmont, Richey Massey of Piedmont; two brothers, Tommy and David Jones of Easley and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 1 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Forestville Baptist Church.
Carlisle Ray Penny Pinson, 62, of Greenwood, died June 26, 2007. He was owner and operator of Penny Pinsons Heating and Cooling. He was member of Coronaca Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Cogburn Pinson of the home; father, Earl Ray Pinson of Greenwood; daughters, Carla Pinson and Susan Sellars, both of Greenwood; brothers, James Larry Pinson of Saluda and Fred Earl Pinson of Piedmont; sister, Cathy Mason of Mount Airy, NC; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held June 29 at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
Clara G. Morris, 90, widow of Lemmie Melvin Morris, died June 26, 2007. Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of Gussie Dunwoody and Walter Gardo. She was a retired battery filler and formerly a member of Westside Assembly of God. Surviving are a daughter, Geraldine Kenemer of Conyers, GA; two sons, Jerry F. Morris of Mauldin and Ted Morris of Piedmont; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hilda Cordell. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon St., Greenville, SC 29605. Funeral service was held June 29 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home Downtown. Burial followed in Graceland West Cemetery.
Robert Gerald Jerry Cox, 51, of Piedmont, died July 2, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Williamston, he was a son of Charles William Cox and the late Laura Elizabeth Williams Cox. He was employed by Form-A-Tool in Piedmont. In addition to his father, he is survived by brother, Wayne Thomas Cox; and sister, Sandra C. Leaphart, both of Piedmont. Funeral services will be held July 12 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Family members are at their respective homes and will receive friends July 12 from 2-3:30 at Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Della Mae Smith Eskew, 70, of Pelzer, widow of Bobby Joe Eskew, died July 1, 2007 at her home. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Elbert Riley and Eleanor Emma Owens Smith. She was formerly employed by Model Coats in Ware Place and was a Baptist. Surviving are daughter, Barbara Eskew of Williamston; sons, Terry Eskew of Williamston, David Eskew and Wayne Eskew, both of Pelzer; brothers, Bobby Smith of Georgia, Stephen Smith of Pelzer; sisters, Janie Smith, Judy Ghent, Kathy Lusk, all of Pelzer; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. July 12 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home and will receive friends 1-3 p.m. July 12 at Gray Mortuary.
Alice Virginia Poteat Campbell, 72, wife of Wayne Campbell of Anderson, died July 8, 2007 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson. Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Albert Poteat and Ruth Arrowood Poteat. She retired from care giving, sitting with the terminally ill. She was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Wayne Campbell of the home; son, Michael Wilson of Charleston; daughters, Vivian Timms, Sheila Mahoney, both of Anderson; Martha Bolt of Williamston and Mary Cox of Inman; brother, Daniel Poteat of Georgia; sister, Jean Gunter of Wagner; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 11 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Anderson. Robert Alan Robbie Hazen, 47, of Piedmont, died July 8, 2007 at his home. Born in Greenville, he was a son of Elliott E. and Nancy Dunagan Hazen of Piedmont. He was employed by Busy Beaver Tree Service and was of the Methodist Faith. Surviving in addition to his parents is a brother, David E. Hazen of Liberty. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
Linda Hammond Casey, 57, of Liberty, died July 8, 2007 at her home. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late James H. Jack Hammond. Surviving are her husband, Leroy Casey, Jr. of the home; her mother, Bessie Langston Hammond of Liberty; daughter, Deann Graham of Liberty; son, Richard Lee Edmonds of Ware Shoals; three sisters, Judy Keeler of Piedmont, Lillie Mae Chandler of Liberty and Kathy Bethune of Gray Court; three brothers, Donald Hammond of Taylors, James Hammond of La France and Kenneth Hammond of Liberty; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 11 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Liberty Memorial Gardens.
Dennis M. Jones D.J., 57, of Greenville, SC, died July 4, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Surviving are his girlfriend Melissa Machen of the home; father of Kelly Jones of Powdersville, Shawn Hefner of Atlanta, GA; stepfather of Amanda Woody of Starr, Brenda Cleveland of Anderson, Shawn Hicks of Williamston, Katie Hicks and Toni Campbell of the home, Seth Cobb of Easley; grandfather of Ashlyn Cobb of Pickens, Blake Cobb of Anderson; step-grandfather of Dalton, Machen of Starr and Americas Machen of Anderson. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 6 p.m. by Pastor Keith Lindsey at Westville Funeral Home on White Horse Rd., Greenville.
Joan Marie Clarke Cromer, 64, wife of Clyde Johnson, of Belton, died July 9, 2007 at Hospice House in Anderson. Born in Canada, she was a daughter of the late William George and Jean Wallace Allen Clarke, and retired from I.T.S. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Brown of Pickens; sons, Glenn Cromer of Williamston, Clark Cromer of Greenville; sisters, Geri Fraisher of St. Petersburg, FL; brothers, Doug Clarke of Boston, MA, Saunders Clarke of Canada; and seven grandchildren. Graveside services were held July 11 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. |
