CHARLES MATHIOUS ROSEMOND, JR.

Charles Mathious Rosemond Jr., infant, of Piedmont, died Aug. 26, 2007.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Charles Mathious Rosemond and Teresa Mills Rosemond.

Surviving in addition to his parents are grandparents, Willie and Emma Mills of Orlando, FL and Odena Rosemond of Easley.


DANIEL EUGENE McCARTNEY

Daniel Eugene McCartney, 49, of Simpsonville, died Aug. 28, 2007 in St. Francis Hospital.

He was the son of the late D.B. and Alice McCartney.

Surviving are two daughters, Angel Forrester of Greer and April McCartney of Pelzer; three grandchildren; one sister, Stella Rice of Rutherfordton, NC; and one brother, Jimmy Rice of Simpsonville.

Memorial services were held Aug. 30 at the Chapel of Graceland Mortuary.


JAMES ALLEN McCOY JR.

James Allen McCoy, Jr. died Aug. 29, 2007 at his home.

He was born in Greenville, the son of the late James Allen McCoy Sr. and Willice Robinson McCoy. He was a member of Plainfield Baptist Church in Dodge County.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Reid McCoy of Dexter, GA; two sons, James “Warren” McCoy of Inman and Ronald Allen McCoy of Spartanburg; five daughters, Amy Denise Kelley of New Burge, Indiana, Tina Susanne Scott of Pendleton, Grace Willice Self of Piedmont, April Michelle Crooms of Rentz, Georgia and Jean Ann McCoy of Killeen, Texas; one sister, Bobbie Jean McCoy of Dexter, Georgia; 23 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date.


EMMA OLIVIA JOHNSON

Emma Olivia Johnson, 62, of Maysville, GA died Aug. 29, 2007 at Athens Regional Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Dora Mae Hogg.

Surviving are sons, Ricky Dale Johnson, Glenn Wilton Johnson and Christopher Dwayne Johnson all of Maysville, GA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Vickery ofAnderson; brothers, John Hogg, J.B. Hogg, Harold Haynie Hogg, Kenneth Hogg, Mike Hogg, all of Belton and Willis Hogg of Williamston.

Funeral services were held Aug. 31 at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.


LINDA JACKSON

Linda Fay Elrod Jackson, 54, wife of Tony Jackson of Williamston, died Aug. 29, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Mildred Virginia Sargent Elrod and Elbert Lee Elrod of Anderson. She was formerly employed by White Jones and was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by a son, Rodney McAlister of Williamston; daughter, Candice Hilliard of Anderson; brothers, Jimmy Elrod and Wayne Elrod, both of Piercetown; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 1 at Whitefield Baptist Church. Burial followed in Six and Twenty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Greenville Cancer Society, 113 Mills Ave., Greenville, SC 29605.


LIBBY MYERS

Margaret Elizabeth “Libby” Betsill Myers, 76, wife of Paul Owen Myers, of Pelzer, died Aug. 30, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Fulton County, GA, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Opal Johnson Betsill. She was formerly employed by American Printing Finishers and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Lewis Myers of Greenville; daughter, Laura Brown of the home; sisters, Louise Keller of Florida, Bobby Head of Union City, GA; brothers, Eugene Betsill of Lovejoy, GA, Roy Betsill of Myrtle Beach; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Sept. 4 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


RICKY MANESS

James Richard “Ricky” Maness, 59, of Anderson died Aug. 31, 2007.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late James Edward and Ella Davis Maness, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are son, Chon Maness; daughter, Wendy Myers; sister, Cathy Martin; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Sept. 4 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


SHERRY ANN CARTER CALDWELL

Sherry Ann Carter Caldwell, 23, wife of Jason Caldwell of Williamston, died Aug. 29, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Johnny and Shirley Cockrell of Belton and the late Joseph Carter.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are brothers, Joseph Chad Carter of Anderson and Adam Lee Carter of Spartanburg; sister, Angel Anita Carter of Simpsonville; daughters, Aliyah Raine McAlister and Destiny Ann McAlister, both of Honea Path; sons, Damion Patrick McAlister and Isaiah Lee Williams both of Honea Path; grandmothers, Louella Reid of Williamston, Kathy Cummings and Mary Carter; grandfather, James Cummings of Donalds; and mother-in-law, Darlene Gilreath.

Graveside services were held Sept. 1 at Neals Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.


MILAN BERRY

Milan Berry, 85, of Enoree, died Aug. 30, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pacolet, he was the son of the late Heber Wylie and Ollie Carbell Kirby Berry.

He was retired from W.R. Grace Co., a U. S. Army veteran, and a member of Enoree first Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Foster Berry of the home; a daughter, Cynthia “Sissy” B. Raines of Piedmont; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 1 at First Baptist Church of Enoree. Interment followed in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.


WILLIE MAE BOYD

Willie Mae Boyd, 70, of Greenville, died Aug. 27, 2007 in Greenville Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Cherokee County, a daughter of the late Clyde Dawkins and Mahaley Jefferson Dawkins. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Boyd of Simpsonville; one daughter, Linda Joyce Boyd of the home; one sister, Patricia Ann Bryson of Piedmont; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 1 at the Beasley Funeral Home Chapel, Fountain Inn. Burial followed in the Pinedale Memorial Park, Piedmont.


DORIS TURNER CRAWFORD

Doris Nell Turner Crawford, 87, wife of the late Herbert Marion Crawford, died Aug. 30, 2007.

She was born in Fork Shoals the daughter of the late Clarence Ross Turner Sr. and Myrtle Jenkins Turner.

 She retired from the Greenville County School System as a teacher.

She is survived by two sons, James Michael Crawford of Clemson and Ronald Eugene Crawford of Simpsonville; one daughter, Deborah Crawford Thrift of Charleston; a brother, Clarence Ross Turner Jr. of Greenville; one sister, Mildred Turner Childers of Fayetteville, GA; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Aug. 31 at Cannon Funeral Home Chapel in Fountain Inn. Interment services were private.

Memorials may be made to Fork Shoals Baptist Church Van Fund, 110 Fork Shoals Church Road, Pelzer, SC 29669.


JOE SHAW

Joseph “Joe” Elbert Shaw, 79, husband of Mary Colleen Masters Shaw, of Pelzer, died Sept. 3, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late Elbert Andrew and Susanna Bowen Shaw. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Universal Service in Greenville and was a member of Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Debra Shaw Riddle of Boiling Springs; brother, Guy Andrew Shaw; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sept. 6 at Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

MONROE LOCKABY, SR.

Raymond Monroe Lockaby, Sr., 73, of Greenville, died Sept. 4, 2007 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late William Earley and Dora Loveland Lockaby. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a retired sewing machine mechanic with Piedmont Industries. He was a member of Six and Twenty Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, Monty Lockaby of Powdersville; two grandchildren; three brothers, Ozell F. Lockaby of Piedmont, W. Jesse Lockaby of Pendleton and James E. Lockaby of Easley.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at Six and Twenty Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.


LEO G. GLASBY

January 6, 1909 - Sept. 4, 2007

WILLIAMSTON - Leo G. Glasby, 98, formerly of 7 Gossett Street, widower of the late Marie E. Glasby, passed away quietly on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Hospice of the Upstate, to be with his Maker and with his former sweetheart of seventy-four years. Mr. Glasby was a resident of Williamston for ninety-one years.

Born in Calhoun Falls, he was a son of the late Calhoun Glasby and the late Lillian Rutledge. Leo retired from Mount Vernon Mills.

Mr. Glasby is survived by a sister, Mrs. Virginia Glasby Faulkner of Williamston; children, Elizabeth Glasby and her late husband, Edward Erwin, Robert L. Glasby and his wife Betty Sue, James Daniel Glasby and his wife Alycia, and Sally Glasby Breazeale and her husband Clarence.

He was predeceased by siblings, Doyle, Leo, Joseph, Thomas, Hazel, Ellen, Larry, Virginia, Mary Frances, Calhoun, William and James.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Dr. James Norris officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family members are at their respective homes and will receive friends 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice, or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 285, Anderson, SC 29622.


BERTIE H. ROGERS

May 28, 1913 - Sept. 3, 2007

WILLIAMSTON - Bertie Holland Rogers, 94, of 104 Crawford Street, died Monday, September 3, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Andy and Dena Willingham Holland. She retired from Wilson’s 5 & 10 where she worked for over forty years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Williamston, the Happy Ladies Sunday School Class, groups 3 and 4, and the XYZ’s Senior Adults. Bertie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a wonderful Christian lady.

Surviving are her daughter, Juanita Rogers of the home; son, Eddie Ervin Rogers of Gettysburg, PA; daughter-in-law, Pat Rogers of Williamston; granddaughter, Jennifer Gregory; great-grandson, Russell Gregory; and her beloved dog, Jeffery.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was predeceased by her sister, Ina Ellison; and brothers, Jamie Holland, Justus “Pete” Holland, and Joe Holland.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Roberts and the Rev. Dr. Hugh Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 7-8:30 pm Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


JAMES L. WINCHESTER

James “Larry” Winchester, 82, of Piedmont, died Sept. 3, 2007.

Born in Pickens County he was the son of the late Festus W. and Zettie Winchester. He was retired from Victoria’s Cafeteria and a member of the New Life Baptist Church.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Surviving are his wife, Mattie Lou Dodgens Winchester; one daughter, Martha Hutchins of Easley; four sons, Jerry Winchester of Greenville, Jimmy Winchester of Easley, Ricky Winchester of Greenville and Keith Winchester of Piedmont; a sister, Eloise W. Trotter of Pickens; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 5 at New Life Baptist Church, Greenville. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery in Pickens.
