LLOYD “POP” TUMBLIN, SR.

MAULDIN - James Lloyd Tumblin, Sr., 79, husband of Betty Fowler Tumblin, of 300 Bartlett Street,, died Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at his home.

Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Marvin Franklin, Sr. and Janie Cox Tumblin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retired from Sloan Construction, a member of West Gantt First Baptist Church and Mauldin Masonic Lodge #430.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Barbara Ann Tumblin Rhodes and her husband Jerry of Pelzer; brothers, Marvin F. Tumblin, Jr. of Aiken, Ned C. Tumblin of Greenville; sisters, Clayton Tumblin Reid of Piedmont, Lonnie Tumblin Moorevan of Louisiana, Jane Tumblin Green of Florida, Margaret Tumblin McNeely of Powdersville; grandchildren, James Lloyd Tumblin, III, Brigitte Bryson and her husband Randy, Bert Farris and his wife Angela, Ashley Rhodes; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, James Lloyd Tumblin, Jr.

Graveside services were held 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at Greenville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Frank Dooley officiating.

The family was at the home and received friends following the service at the graveside.

Gray Mortuary, Pelzer was in charge of arrangements.


MARY SUE “SUSIE” COKER

Mary Sue “Susie” Gilliam Coker, 71, widow of Olin Johnson Coker, died Sept. 13, 2007 at Easley Living Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Millard Web and Lucille Davis Gilliam. She was formerly employed with Williamston Manufacturing, Inc. and a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church.

Surviving is a daughter, Debbie Middleton of Pelzer; sons, James Olin Coker of Pelzer, Jeffery Scott Coker of Piedmont; brother. Larry Eugene Gilliam of Piedmont; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 15 at Reedy Fork Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

RUTH REID TULLOS

Ruth Eveline Reid Tullos, 74, of Greenville died Sept. 13, 2007.

She was a daughter of the late Larkin Junius Reid and Ruth McKinney Reid.

She was retired from J.P. Stevens, Parker Plant and a member of Dunean Baptist Church.

 Surviving are two daughters, Charlotte McCarson and Susan Jackson, both of Greenville; one brother, Cecil J. Reid of Piedmont; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special daughter, Linda Bentley.

Funeral services were held Sept. 15 at Dunean Baptist Church.

Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

SHIRLEY LEE JORDAN

Shirley Lee Jordan, 85, widower of the late Josephine Loftis Jordan of Belton, died Sept. 13, 2007 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Henry D. and Essie Watson Jordan. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Belton.

Survivn are a son, Henry Thomas Jordan of Seneca; daughters, Sherion Black and Jan Long, both of Honea Path; sisters, Catherine Ford of Williamston, Mary Ruth Mitchell of Anderson, Dorothy Hart of Belton; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 15 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church Building Fund.


WILLIE “BILL” WARDLAW

Willie “Bill” Wardlaw, husband of Sandra Jean Stone Wardlaw of Williamston, died Sept. 15, 2007 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Clifford G. and Amanda Cobb Wardlaw. He was retired from Kemet Electronics in Fountain Inn, a Marine Corps veteran, and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Belton.

Surviving are his wife of the home; sons, Steven S. Wardlaw of Simpsonville, Robert Bryan Wardlaw of Huntington Beach, CA; daughter, Penny Wardlaw Massey of Huntington Beach, CA; step-daughter, Donna Dove of Williamston; step-son, Todd Ellison of Williamston; brothers, Jim Wardlaw of Iowa, Ray Wardlaw of Anderson; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 16 at Gray Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

BILLY CRESWELL

William “Billy” David Creswell, 80, husband of Jeanette Stewart Creswell, of Piedmont, died Sept. 16, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Robert Anderson and Ruth Mae Brock Creswell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, retired from Woodside Mill, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Mike Creswell of Morganton, NC, Randy Creswell of Greenville; a niece reared in the home, Donna Gentry of Greenville; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Graveside services were held Sept. 19 at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

STEVE S. NELSON

Stephen S. Nelson, 61, of Easley, died Sept. 18, 2007 at his home.

Born in Transylvania County, NC, a son of Leona Shook Nelson of Easley and the late Charles Nelson, he was a self-employed machinist and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Kelly Stephens of Piedmont and Tracy Nelson of Easley; one brother, Joe Nelson; one sister, Charlene Reynolds of Orange City, FL; and four grandchildren.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his wife, Jean Powell Nelson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 20 at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

FRED FOSTER

Fred Perry Foster, 48, of Pelzer, died Sept. 15, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate, Anderson.

He was born in Greenville County to the late Howard Foster and the late Sudie Mae Mullinex Foster. He was of the Baptist faith and was employed by UTI of Greenville.

Surviving are his wife, Deirdre Dunn Foster; sons, John Foster and Frankie Foster, both of Greenville; brother Howard Foster Jr. of Greenville; sisters, Barbara Sutherland of Easley and Joyce Howard of Greenville; and one granddaughter.

He was cremated.

Memorials may be made to Rainey Hospice Home of the Upstate in Anderson.


KATHY W. TURNER

Kathy Allene Waldrop Turner, 50, of Easley, died Sept. 13, 2007 at her home.

Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of Marshall Elbert Waldrop and wife Evelyn of Ware Shoals and Ruby Lee Dodgens Galloway and husband Floyd J. of Easley.

She was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, David Newton Turner of the home; a son, Ricky David Turner of Easley; daughter, Tabitha Lee Turner Hawkins of Easley; two stepbrothers, Ricky Jennings of Pelzer and Ronald James Galloway of Seneca; three stepsisters, Brenda Gibson of Easley, Sharon Dabney of Fair Play and Beverly Brown of Iva; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 16 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.


ZEMLEY NORRIS

Zemley  Viola Hipps Norris, 97, widow of Lester Claude Norris, formerly of Anderson, died Sept. 16, 2007 at NHC Healthcare of Anderson.

Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Cleve and Millie Hipps. She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.

She is survived by daughters, Hazel Brown, Louise Hayes, Mary Wallace, Bobbi Simpson, all of Anderson; sons, Bill Norris of Iva, James Norris of Anderson, Donnie Norris of Pelzer; 21 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services were held Sept. 18 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson.

LILLIE WEAVER

Lillie Ruth Morris  Weaver, 83, of Williamston, wife of Ernest William Weaver, died September 17, 2007 at  Brookside Living Center.

 Born in Lake City, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and  Bessie Morris. She was retired from Lake City Elementary School Cafeteria and was a member of Beaverdam  Baptist Church, Williamston.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Bill Weaver of Anderson and  Dr. Tommy Weaver of Charlotte; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and one sister,  Beulah Baker of Manning.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m.  Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel. Burial will be in  Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday at the Northeast chapel, 3205 North Hwy. 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of Bill and Catherine Weaver, 401 Bowen Rd., Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaverdam Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund or  Building Fund, 1904 Beaverdam Rd., Williamston, SC 29697.


CALVIN KEELER

Calvin Junior Keeler, 66, husband of Judy Hammond Keeler of Piedmont died September 17, 2007 at  Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Hugh Carwell and Hattie Louise Davis Keeler. He was former owner of Piedmont Grading and Hauling, and a member of Piedmont Church of God.

In addition to  his wife, he is survived by daughters, Darlene McCall of Salem, Sandra Keeler of Pelzer; son Michael Keeler of Piedmont; brothers, Hulon Keeler, Melvin Keeler, both of Piedmont; sisters, Jeanette McAlister of Williamston, Nancy  Tharp of Piedmont, Charlene Lesley of Easley, Doris Keeler of Greenville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home of Sandra Keeler, 489 Old River Rd., Pelzer, and will receive friends 6-8 pm. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary.


AMANDA TEMPLE

Amanda Lynn Temple, infant daughter of Tabatha Fox and Christopher Alex Temple died  Sept. 16, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Surviving in addition to her parents are grandparents, Lynn and Hal Dorr of Greenville, Robin and Lloyd “Hardrock” Fox of Piedmont; great-grandparents, Carol Cobb of Greenville, Barbara and Grady Keeler of Piedmont, Shirley Fox of Piedmont and great-great-grandmother, Helen Wilson of Piedmont.

Graveside services were held Sept. 19 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
