GLENN DALE GAINES

Glenn Dale Gaines, 72, of Taylors, husband of Kathy Beardslee Gaines, died Sept. 25, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Gladewater, Texas, he was the son of the late Samuel Forest and Corine Glenn Gaines.

He was retired from Unisys and a member of Lee Road Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Deborah Decker of Pelzer; seven grandchildren; sister, Ida Lois Russell of Gilmer, Texas; a stepdaughter, Laura Heaton of Seneca; and a stepson, Scott Meade of Boone, NC.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.


CAROLEEN ‘CORKY’ MURDOCK

Caroleen “Corky” Hammett Murdock, 76, widow of Jack Douglas Murdock, of Honea Path died Sept. 25, 2007 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Honea Path, she was a daughter of the late Willie Dexter and Cleopatra Rogers Stone Hammett.

She was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and retired from Torrington Co.

Surviving are two sons, Jackie H. Murdock of Laurens and Carl “Danny” Murdock of Honea Path; two daughters, Sherry Hall and Mollie Jane Murdock, both of Anderson; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Bollinger of Greenwood and Molly Evans of Pelzer.

Funeral services were held Sept. 28 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

WILLIAM BRADLEY SMITH

William Bradley Smith, 83, of Belton, widower of Doris Madden Smith, died Sept. 27, 2007 at Richard M. Campbell Veteran’s Nursing Home.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late William Walter and Gertrude Bradley Smith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and was retired from Abney Mills in Belton. He was a member of Triangle Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, John W. Smith of Belton; daughter, Kay Cox of Williamston; two granddaughters; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 29 at Triangle Baptist Church. Burial followed in Belton City Cemetery with military honors.

JEROLD HIGGINBOTHAM

Bobby Jerold Higginbotham, 69, husband of Jackie Elaine Horne Higginbotham, of Belton, died September 29, 2007 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Robert Higginbotham and Susie Johnson Higginbotham. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills in Williamston and was a member of the Pelzer Church of God. He was a veteran of the National Guard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Charles and Bobby Higginbotham of the home; daughters, Denyse Wright and Melissa Higginbotham, both of Williamston; brothers, Earl, of Williamston, C.L. of Roebuck, Roy Gene of Travelers Rest and William of Azle, Texas; sisters, Mary Horne of Williamston and Doris Jordan of Yatesville, GA; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 2 at the Pelzer Church of God. Entombment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

JERRY MONROE STONE

Jerry Monroe Stone, 50, of Belton, died Sept. 27, 2007 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of Violet Blythe Stone of Belton and the late William Monroe Stone, Sr. He was of the Assembly of God faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are; daughter, Cherrie Dawn Stone of Belton; sister, Cathy Bruce of Pelzer and two granddaughters.

Graveside services were held Sept. 28 at Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

ELIZABETH BRYSON

Elizabeth Louise Fricks Bryson, 68, formerly of Piedmont, widow of A.C. Bryson died Sept. 26, 2007 at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington, VA.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Franklin and Azalee Mullikin Fricks. She was a homemaker and a member of the Piedmont Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are daughters, Brenda Helmuth of Virginia, Beverly Helmuth of Central, Beth Chapman of Piedmont, Betty Gonzalez of Pelzer; sisters, Eunice Bridges, Vennie Davis, both of Piedmont, Dora Lee Fountain, Melvie Duncan, Myrtle Phillips, all of Pelzer, Patricia Knight of Williamston; brothers, David Fricks of Clarkston, MI, Wayne Fricks of Belton, Billy Joe Fricks of Toccoa, GA; 14 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 27 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Piedmont.


RUDOLPH “DOC” ELLISON

James Rudolph “Doc” Ellison, 84, formerly of Williamston, died Oct. 2, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, NC.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Joe Perry and Ina Holland Ellison. He was a Baptist.

Surviving is his brother Louie Harold Ellison of Williamston.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m.  Oct. 4 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will follow in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.


TRAVIS W. CHANDLER

Travis Wayne Chandler, 29, of Williamston, died Sept. 27, 2007.

Surviving are his daughter, Rhiannon Chandler; his fiancee, Vanessa Rampey; and his father, Terry W. Chandler.

He was predeceased by his mother, Tracy Wells Chandler.

A memorial service was held Oct. 1 at The Mackey Mortuary.


BUD MORRIS

James Dennis “Bud” Morris, 77, of West Pelzer, widower of O’dell Davis Clark Morris died October 1, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Greenville County, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retired from J.P. Stevens, Estes Plant, and was of the Church of Christ faith.

He is survived by step-daughter, Karen Alewine of Williamston; and three step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at Pine Lawn Cemetery.


PHEDONIA DAVIS

Phedonia Snipes Davis, 90, of Williamston, widow of James “Beany” R. Davis, died Oct. 1, 2007 at her home.

Born in Pelzer, she was daughter of the late Robert Luther and Phedonia Haynie Snipes. She was twice married, first to the late Marson Davis, retired from Anderson County School District 1 and was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by daughter, Georgia Waters of Williamston; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at Beulah United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends following the service. A private committal service will be held.

WAYNE H. STONE

Wayne H. Stone, 79, died September 26, 2007 at his home in Newnan, GA after a long illness. He was born December 30, 1927 in Seneca, SC to the late Carl and Maude Holliday Stone.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He spent his entire professional career with Belk Department Stores, beginning in Florida in the shoe department and advancing to Executive Vice-President of the Belk Atlanta Group where he was responsible for 35 stores. Upon retirement from Belk, he moved to Newnan to raise cattle and hay. He was an active member of the Georgia Cattleman’s Association.

The funeral was held Friday, September 28, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Patterson officiating. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The visitation was Thursday evening between 6 and 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Day Stone; son, Wayne H. Stone, Jr.; daughters, Nancy L. Stone, Teri (Jim) Pirie; sister, Nancy Singleton; brother, Theron Stone; grandchildren, Kristen Pirie and Paige Pirie; and  numerous nieces and nephews.


BRENDA THOMPSON JULIAN

Brenda Thompson Julian, 53, of Pelzer, wife of Larry Dean Julian, died Oct.1, 2007 at her home.

Born in Camp LeJeune, NC, she was the daughter of Nellie Meeks Thompson and the late John Robert Thompson.

She was employed with Southeastern Floral, a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church and attended Cedar Falls Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother and husband are, daughter, Melinda Barnes of Greer; stepdaughter, Miranda Jackson of Laurens; two sons, Chris Julian of Pelzer and Bryan Julian of Fountain Inn; sister, Cindy Layne of Williamston; brother, Mike Thompson; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 4 at 1:30 p.m. in Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, downtown chapel. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.


JOYCE AUTREY

WEST PELZER, Joyce Faye Autrey, 72, of 2 Dunlap Street, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Clyde and Viola Williams Autrey. She was a homemaker and a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church. Joyce had 38 years of perfect attendance at Sunday School.

Surviving are a brother, Robert “Rock” Autrey of the home; brother-in-law, Billy S. Alverson; niece, Saundra Tate; nephew, Michael Alverson; great niece, April Ballard; great nephew, Matt Tate; and great, great-nephew, Colby Ballard, all of Pelzer.

She was predeceased by a sister, Donna Lee Alverson.

Services were held Oct. 2 at West Pelzer Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Smith officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family received friends Monday at Gray Mortuary.

DEBORAH T. BRYANT

Deborah Thomas Bryant, 51, of Easley, died Oct. 1, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Mary Lou Thomas. She was an accountant at Liberty Life and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Phillip E. Bryant of the home; two sons, Christopher Bryant of Greenville and Richard Bryant of Piedmont; a brother, Michael Thomas of Easley; two sisters, Anita Lee of Greenville and Becky Thomas of Easley; and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Oct. 4 in the chapel at Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
