Ruby Lee Davis Manley, 87, widow of John Henry Manley, of Piedmont died Oct. 16, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Pearl Bond Davis. She retired from Stone Manufacturing and Monaview Child Care in Berea. Surviving are daughter, Jodi Hughes of Piedmont; son, Jackie Manley of Easley; one granddaughter; two grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Oct. 18 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Martha Lucille Smith Mitchell, 52, of Iva, died Oct. 17, 2007 at the Hospice of the Upstate. Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Homer Smith and Martha Mae Russell. She is survived by her son, Jason Mitchell of Starr; two grandchildren; brother, Richard Smith Jr. of Williamston; and sisters, Joan Bridges of Iva, Debbie Fields of Williamston, Linda Smith of Iva and Brenda Kay of Pendleton. Funeral services were held Oct. 19 at the Woodlawn Sosebee Funeral Home Chapel.
Chad Michael Cabra, 31, of Seneca, died Oct. 16, 2007 at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca. A native of Anderson, he was the son of Mark Raymond and Sherry Annette Shaw Cabra. He was a member of Higher Ground Family Worship Center of Seneca. He is survived by daughter, Casey Helen Wood of Iva; brother, Chris Anthony Cabra of Greenville; grandparents, Charles and Marie Cabra of Williamston. Funeral services were held Oct. 19 in the Chapel of Davenport Funeral Home in Walhalla. Burial followed in Heritage Memorial Gardens in Westminster.
Sadie Corrie Cothran Henderson, 84, wife of Dewey Henderson, Jr., of Pelzer, died Oct. 18, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Corrie Elizabeth Ridgeway Cothran. She retired from Model Coats and was a member of Daventon Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Susan Henderson of Simpsonville, Diane Henderson Tolson of Donalds; sons, John Henderson, Phil Henderson, both of Lexington; brothers, J.T. Cothran of Greenville, Wendall Cothran of Walterboro; sisters, Annie Holiday of Belton, Pally Watkins of Greer, Betty Sue Thompson of Greenville, Mary Cothran of Pelzer; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Oct. 20 at Daventon Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Lee Jones, 88, husband of Katie Viola King Jones, of Piedmont, died Oct. 18, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Laurens County, he was son of the late Dee Edward and Daisy Woodard Jones. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired from J.P. Stevens, Estes Plant and was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by an adopted brother, Joel Jones of Piedmont. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral services were held Oct. 20 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Unity Presbyterian Church, P.O. Louie Mose Ellis, 70, husband of Linda Acker Ellis, of Williamston, died Oct. 18, 2007 at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Louie Clyde and Sallie Moore Ellis. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Mt. Vernon, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Williamston. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Tim C. Ellis of Greenville; and brothers, Daniel M. Ellis of Williamston and William Edward Ed Ellis of Piedmont. Funeral services were held Oct. 21 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, pelzer. Entombment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Rachel Helen Capps Smith, 67, of Piedmont, widow of Mason Grady Smith, died October 20, 2007. Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late William Iler and Hortense Sherman Capps. She was formerly employed at J.P. Stevens. Surviving are a son, Wallace Simmons and daughter, Joy Seigler, both of Piedmont; five brothers, Kent Capps of Williamston, Bobby Capps and Ricky Capps of Piedmont, Billy Capps and Ronnie Capps of Pelzer; three sisters, Sylvia Browning and Dot Harrison of Pelzer, Jackie Roberts of Westminster; and two grandchildren. Graveside services were held Oct. 22 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Jessie Elizabeth Clark Perry, 84, wife of Edward Ed Eugene Perry, died Oct. 19, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Sanford, NC, she was a daughter of the late John Harmon and Zaila Godfrey Clark. She was a homemaker and a member of the Williamston Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Linda Yvonne Perry, Laura Perry Andrews, both of Williamston; sons, Cecil Wayne Perry of Anderson, David Perry of Williamston; sister, Nancy Clark Ridenhour of Sanford, NC; brothers, Billy Ray Clark of Fayetteville, NC, Jimmy Lee Clark of Sanford, NC; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Oct. 21 at Williamston Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Mary Ruth Worthy Baxter, 72, of Piedmont died Oct. 16, 2007 at her home. She was born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Leon and Bertie Mae Smith Worthy. She was predeceased by her husband Ross F. Baxter. She was a member of College Park Church of God of Prophecy and worked with her daughter Phyllis in rescuing and caring for border collie dogs. Surviving are daughter, Phyllis M. Baxter of the home; grandson reared in the home, Derek A. Baxter; sister, Doris Worthy Roper of Pickens; brother, Carl E. Worthy of Mosheim, TN; seven stepchildren, and a host of grandchildren. Funeral services were held Oct. 20 at College Park Church of God of Prophecy. Interment followed in Graceland East Cemetery.
Patricia Ann Pridmore, 72, of North Augusta, died Oct. 16, 2007 at Trinity Hospice in Augusta, GA. She was a daughter of the late William Richard and Verna Lee Fielding Pridmore. Born in Pelzer, she lived in Greenville prior to moving to North Augusta. She was a member of Northgate Baptist Church in Greenville. She retired from Trust Department of NCNB. Surviving are sisters, Betty P. Westmoreland of North Augusta and Linda Daniels of Rio Rancho, N.M. At her request she was cremated and a memorial service was held Oct. 20 at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation service. Memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.
Mary Frances Williams, formerly of Williamston, died Oct. 15, 2007. She was a former member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, James Broadus Williams of Williamston. Funeral services were held Oct. 23 at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Williamston. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Jasper Sidney Sweeney Sr., 81, of Greenville, died Oct. 18, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Simpsonville, he was the son of the late Wesley and Virdie Lee Young Sweeney. He was a member of the Rocky Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Rosa Lee Dogan Sweeney; three sons, Jasper Sidney Sweeney, Jr. of Greenville, Lavanda C. Sweeney and Donnie M. Sweeney, both of Taylors; five daughters, Geneva S. Thomas of Hodges, Christine E. Sweeney, Princess A. Sweeney, Karen S. Clements and Jacqueline S. Blanding, all of Taylors; four brothers, Harley D. Sweeney of Simpsonville, Henry Allen Sweeney and Rev. Fred L. Sweeney, both of Greenville, and Cornell Sweeney, Sr. of Piedmont; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Oct. 23 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Simpsonville. Committal was held in the church cemetery.
Ellen King Moss, 84, of Greenville, widow of Alex Andrew Moss, died Oct. 19, 2007. Born in Bethesda, NC, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Newton and Mamie Martin King. She was a homemaker and a member of East Park Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Hazel Bramlett of Piedmont and Vera Jones of Richmond, VA; a son, Dr. Lewis Moss of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl King of Greenwood. Memorials may be made to East Park Baptist Church, 12 Ebaugh Avenue, Greenville, SC 29607. Funeral service was held Oct. 21 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Margaret Anne Bradley Simmons, 83, of West Pelzer, widow of Louie Luther Simmons, died Oct. 21, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenville County, she was daughter of the late James Paul and Anne Rogers Bradley. She retired from Anderson County School District One and was a member of the Pelzer Presbyterian Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Funeral services were held Oct. 24 at the Pelzer Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Carlos Mauricio Rodriguez, 28, husband of Claudia Patricia Hernandez Rodriguez, of Williamston, died Oct. 19, 2007 at his home. Born in El Salvador, he was a son of Anna Bitia Rodriguez of the home and Miguel Angel Cortez of El Salvador. He was a member of Iglesia Pentecostal Fuente De Agua Viva. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by son, Daniel Mauricio Rodriguez; daughter, Anna Patricia Rodriguez, both of the home; and brothers, Marlon Rodriguez of Anderson and Henry Rodriguez of New York. Funeral services were held Oct. 22 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.
Johnnie ONeal Moore, 90, of Lexington, died Oct. 21, 2007. Born in Conestee, he was the son of the late Marshall and Florence Starnes Moore. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from J.P. Stevens Estes Plant. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Surviving are two daughters, Linda M. Barfield of Lexington and Dianne M. Stafford of Piedmont; a son, Johnnie ONeal Moore, Jr. of Gilbert; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a former wife, Jodie G. Moore of Williamston. Ethel Lee Pack Capps, 88, widow of Jessie James Capps of Piedmont, died Oct. 23, 2007 at Riverside Living Center. Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Govener Manning and Mary Ethel Vines Pack. She retired from Union Carbide in Simpsonville and was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. Surviving are daughter, Elaine Seigler of Pelzer; son, James Jimmy Capps of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Merle Saylors, Frances Young, Margaret Elwell, Bonnie Partain, Mable Campbell; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home of her daughter, Elaine Seigler, 300 Seigler Road, Pelzer, and will receive friends 1:30-3 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the church.
Dec. 23, 1954-Oct. 22, 2007 PELZER, SC - Joyce Ann Bagwell Owens, 52, wife of Bill J. Owens of 481 Cooley Bridge Road, died Monday, October 22, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital, with lung cancer that was diagnosed on November 21, 2006. Born in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of C. Ernest Bagwell of Anderson and the late Dorothy Page Bagwell. Joyce was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, homemaker, and a special Mimi. She was a member of The Cathedral Community Church in Mauldin, SC. She is survived by her husband of the home, Bill J. Owens; two sons, Richard Eric Owens, also of the home, Christopher Michael Owens of Simpsonville; a daughter, Sandy Ann Rogers of Gaffney; her father and step-mother, Ernest and Arlene Bagwell of Anderson; one brother, Edwin Rickey Bagwell of Simpsonville; two sisters, Elaine Bagwell Nix of Fountain Inn, Susan Faye Hester of Easley; four grandchildren, Alyssa Marie Owens, Hunter Michael Ponds, both of Mauldin, Madison Grace Owens of Simpsonville and Joseph Wyatt Rogers of Gaffney; two step-sisters, Lisa Haynie and Karen McClain, both of Anderson. Joyce was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Jane Owens, who passed away on August 11, 1973. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2007, in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Dr. William McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Greenville. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
Cora Lee Gantt Selman, 84, of Easley, wife of the late Frank L. Selman, died Oct. 22, 2007 at Countryside Village in Easley. Born in Lexington County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Roston and Farrie Fable Jeffcoat Gantt. She was a sales manager for Sears Department Store prior to opening Lees apparel store in West Columbia. She was a member of Piedmont First Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Hiott of Piedmont; a son, Tony Kyzer of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Mary Rucker of Lexington; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Downtown. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia. Visitation will be prior to the service on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Piedmont First Baptist Church, 8 First Baptist Church Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.
Rosa Stewart Smith, 77, of Pelzer, died Oct. 21, 2007. A daughter of the late Matthew Stewart and Mamie Cobb Stewart and wife of the late Cleophus Smith, Jr., she was a member of the New Forksville Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Margaret S. Johnson of Pelzer; and two sisters, Alice M. Sherman and Laura S. Johnson of Greenville. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the New Forksville Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. |
