Miss Leona Parker, 83, died on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Laurens County Hospital. She was a member of the Williamston Presbyterian Church where she held a number of offices. She was an elementary school teacher in Anderson District One where she remained active after retirement. Miss Parker was pre-deceased by her parents, Wayne and Kate McAlister Parker, and two brothers, John Parker of Greenville, South Carolina and William (Bill) Parker of Columbia, South Carolina. Surviving are her sister, Kathryn Loflen of Columbia, South Carolina and her granddaughter Julie Thompson of Norcross, Georgia. A memorial service was held at the Williamston Presbyterian Church on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. Miss Parker requested that memorials be made to: Williamston Presbyterian Church, P.O. TAYLORS, - Clyde W. Scroggs, 66, husband of Brenda Burt Scroggs, of 403 Taylors Road, went to be with his Savior, October 30, 2007. Born in Pelzer, he was a son of John Martin Scroggs, and the late Genella Scroggs. He was a U.S. Naval veteran and a member of Pelzer Church of God. Surviving are his wife of the home; son, Michael Burt and his wife, Lisa; and grandson, Seth Burt of Williamston; daughter Christa Waldrop and her husband Michael; granddaughter Elizabeth Waldrop; two sisters, Nellie Higginbotham of Williamston, Jane Frye of Gray Court; four brothers, Robert Scroggs, Frank Scroggs, Johnny Scroggs and Mike Scroggs, all of Pelzer. Services were 2 p.m. November 1 at Pelzer Church of God with Rev. Tony Edwards officiating. Entombment will follow in Graceland East Cemetery Mausoleum on Woodruff Road. The family was at the home of Mike and Debbie Scroggs, 49 Spring Street, West Pelzer, and received friends 1-2 p.m. November 1 at the church prior to services. PELZER - William Britten Brit Lomax, 56, husband of Cathy Cox Lomax of 133 Lollis Road, died at his home on Thursday, November 1, 2007. Born in Greenville, he was a son of George and Ruth McDonald Lomax of Pickens. He retired from the Winn-Dixie Warehouse, was an avid hunter, and a member of Dunean Baptist Church. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by sons, Toby Lomax of Louisville, KY, Jody Lomax and his wife Joy of Ware Shoals; brothers, Don Lomax of Easley, Dane Lomax of Pickens; and a granddaughter, Josey Lomax. Funeral services were held Nov. 3 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Calvin E. Holland officiating. The family recieved friends prior to the service Saturday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Morene Harrison Poore Riggott, 86, of Summerville, SC, wife of Bill William A. Riggott and widow of William E. Poore, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at her home. Born October 13, 1921 in Franklin, GA, Mrs. Riggott was the daughter of the late David and Bessie Kelly Harrison. She was a homemaker and a member of Midland Park Baptist Church for over 60 years. Morene was always active in the church choir and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a wonderful cook and her chocolate pies were a work of art. Surviving Mrs. Riggott are her husband; four sons, Ronnie Poore of Camden, SC, Bill Poore of Lancaster, SC, Denny Poore of Virginia Beach, VA and Keven Poore of Ohio; a daughter, Sylvene ONeal of Summerville; a brother, Otis Harrison; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her two special friends, Kate Blount and Leona Royal, both of North Charleston. She was predeceased by a sister, three brothers and a grandchild. The family received friends on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, followed by cremation. George B. Walton, 81, of Easley, died Oct. 30, 2007 at his home. Born in Wilkens County, GA, he was a son of the late Ben L. and Charlie Mae House Walton. He is survived by daughters, Shirley Breazeale and Brenda Mattress, both of Easley; sons, Robert Walton of the home, Jerry Walton of Simpsonville, Larry Walton of Pelzer and Herbert and Donald Walton, both of Easley; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Curtis Walton and Bennett Walton of Greenville and John Walton of Easley. Funeral services were held Nov. 4 at the New Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Easley. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Tammy A. Souza, of Piedmont, died Nov. 3, 2007 at her home. She is survived by her husband, Brian Souza; and children, Christian Joao and Brian James Souza. She is also survived by her parents, James and Gail Allard. The family will receive friends at the Cannon Jones Funeral Home, 603 West Curtis St., Simpsonville on Nov. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held there at 7 p.m.
Aida Frances Burdick, 84, of Pelzer, died Nov. 3, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born on Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lucia and Salvatore Solazzo. She is survived by her husband Guilford McKinley Burdick Jr.; one son, Thomas Burdick of Columbia; two daughters, Jeri Burdick of Eutawville and Madelyn Burdick of Goose Creek; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Yolanda Spina of Tempe, AZ. Funeral services were held Nov. 6 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Michaels Lutheran Church, Augusta Road in Greenville.
Hoyt McCuen, 92, husband of Agnes Masters McCuen, of Fountain Inn, died Nov. 2, 2007 at his home. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Johnny Robert and Jeanette Davis McCuen. He retired from Dusco and was a member of Emmanuel Christian Fellowship. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Brenda Ledford of Gray Court, Bonnie Pace of Williamston, Jeanette Hensley of Fountain Inn; son, Hoyt McCuen, Jr., of Pelzer; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral services were held Nov. 4 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
James Carl Edwards, 67, husband of Doris Else Edwards of Pelzer, died Nov. 1, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate. Born in Greenville County, he was son of the late Otis Benjamin and Gladys Savannah Bennett Edwards. He was formerly employed by the Winn-Dixie Warehouse. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Karen Roberson of Chapin, Sheila Jenkins of Morgantown, WV; sons, James Alan Edwards of Mauldin, Michael Todd Mike Edwards of Williamston; sisters, Patricia Johnson of Greenville, Linda Davis, B.J. Ashley, both of Simpsonville; brother, Larry Edwards of Simpsonville; and four grandchildren. A celebration of his life was held Nov. 4 at his home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
Alma Rene Mason Spooner, 86, widow of Robert Bud Spooner, of Simpsonville, died Oct. 31, 2007. Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Roma and Dovie Kimbrell Mason. She was a homemaker and a member of Piedmont Park United Methodist Church. She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Spooner of Simpsonville, Robert Spooner of Travelers Rest and Doug Spooner of Pelzer; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held Nov. 3 in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Douglas Stephen Steve Dickerson, 60, of Florence, died Oct. 31, 2007. Born in Pelzer, he was the son of Douglas Randolph and Ruth Hamby Dickerson. He was a member of Effingham Presbyterian Church. He was a field representative for Woodmen of the World Insurance. Surviving are his parents of Greenville; his wife, Kay Richardson Dickerson of Florence; son, Douglas Stephen Dickerson, Jr. of Florence; daughter, Katherine Dickerson McCain of Effingham; sister, Kathy Dickerson Cunningham of Greenville. Funeral services were held Nov. 2 at Effingham Presbyterian Church in Effingham. Interment followed in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence. Memorials may be made to Carolinas Hospice, P.O. Roosevelt Harris, 47, of Piedmont, died Oct. 27, 2007 in the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Surviving are his mother, Rose Ella Thompson Harris of Calhoun Falls; daughter, Chantale Umble of Augusta, GA; son, Benjamin Harris of the home; sister, Lizzie Harris of Calhoun Falls; brothers, Robert Harris of Atlanta, GA, Leroy Harris of Athens, GA, and Reginald Young of Calhoun Falls. Funeral services were held Nov. 4 at Abbeville & White Mortuary in Abbeville. Burial followed in Oakbrook Memorial Gardens & Crematory in Greenwood.
Thomas F. McCarson, 72, of Piedmont, died Oct. 31, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. A native of Geenville, son of Buford and Arietta Hunnicutt McCarson, he was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. He was self-employed as a computer parts salesman. Surviving are his wife, Gwen Moore McCarson; daughters, Deborah Skyten and Cheryl Hoyt; and four grandchildren; and sister, Joyce Sullivan. A memorial service was held Nov. 3 at PalmettoCare Cremation Society of South Carolina, 328 Dupont Dr., Greenville.
Marty Allen Hellams, 43, died Nov. 2, 2007 at the Laurens County Hospital. He was the son of the late Ray and Wreatha Hellams. He was formerly employed with the town of Williamston. He is survived by brothers, Mike Hellams of Belton, Roger and Tim Hellams of Laurens; and three sisters, Teresa Turner and Kathy Davis, both of Donalds, and Glenda Meadows of North Carolina. He was predeceased by a sister, Shelby Hellams. Private services were held.
Ruby Jewell Coker Smith, 68, widow of Richard E. Smith, died Nov. 4, 2007 at Oakmont East Living Center. Born in Griffin, GA, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Roy and Velma Morris Coker. She was a seamstress and a member of Victory Baptist Church in Easley. Surviving are a son, David Rose of Piedmont; and two grandsons. Funeral services were held Nov. 7 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home Chapel, Downtown. Burial followed in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Roy Steve Cagle, 57, of Greer, died Nov. 5, 2007 at his home. A native of Spartanburg County, son of Gladys Bryant Cagle of Greer and the late Roy John Cagle, he was a softball instructor and attended Riverside Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Crystal Cagle and Holly Cagle, both of Greer; a son, Allen Cagle of Pelzer; two brothers, Mike Cagle of Simpsonville and Buddy Cagle of Greer; two sisters, Margie Coggins of Greer and Janice Brown of Hickory Tavern; and one grandson. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wood Mortuary. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Maude Leona Waldrop Aiken, 91, wife of the late Will Aiken, Jr., died Nov. 5, 2007 at Westside Living Center. Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Etta Mullikin Waldrop. She was a homemaker and a member of Rices Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Frances James of Easley and Viola Waldrop of Pickens; two sons, Willie Aiken and Wyatt Aiken, both of Williamston; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Graveside services were held Nov. 7 in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens in Pickens. Memorials may be to the charity of ones choice.
Thomas Clyde Mustard McKee, 87, husband of Earlene Cobb McKee of Pelzer, died Nov. 6, 2007 at Westside Living Center. Born in Belton, he was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Amanda Wesbrook McKee. He was a World War II Navy veteran, was retired from the City of Greenville and the Kendall Company. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of the home; two sons, Jimmy McKee of Pelzer, Mitchell McKee of Piedmont; sister, Nettie Chasteen of Honea Path and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens. |
