AMBER GOKEY

Amber Nicole Gokey, 20, of Pelzer, died Nov. 20, 2007.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of Rae Lynn Gokey Kerr. She was employed by Hickory Point on Highway 81.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Rae Lynn Gokey Kerr and Ray Neal Kerr of Belton; grandfather, Raymond Gokey of Pelzer; sister, Brittney Renay Kimbrell of Ellenboro, NC; brothers, Jonathan Ray Kimbrell of Ellenboro, NC, Dakota Keith Beusse of Anderson.

Funeral services were held Nov. 24 at Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


DOROTHY OXFORD

Dorothy Moree Oxford, 69, of Piedmont, widow of Marvin Oxford, died Nov. 19, 2007 at her home.

Born in Woodruff, she was a daughter of the late Isaac L. and Mollie Nix Moree. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Williamston and served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Surviving are daughter, Kimberly E. Lawson of the home; son, Timothy J. Oxford of Williamston; sisters, Mae Barbery of Robbins, NC, Sarah Hart of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Jesse Moree, Frank Moree, both of Simpsonville; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 23 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Entombment followed in Graceland East Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 10 Academy Street, Williamston, SC 29697.


BRIAN EVATT

Stephen Brian Evatt, 44, husband of Michelle Edge Evatt of Williamston, died Nov. 19, 2007.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of James Evatt and Jane Monroe Evatt. He was formerly employed by Janipak in Powdersville.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Edge Evatt of the home; father, James Evatt of Piedmont; mother and step-father, Jane Monroe Evatt and Robert Piper of Belton; daughter, Christie Edge of Piedmont; son, Brandon Evatt of the home; step-daughter, Mary Edge of Piedmont; and brothers, Jimmy Evatt of Williamston and Michael Evatt of Piedmont.

Graveside services were held Nov. 23 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Piedmont.

FREDDIE PLESS

Feb. 12, 1943 - Nov. 19, 2007

PELZER - Freddie Lee Phillips Pless, 64, wife of Robert Terrell Pless, of 7 James Street, died Monday, November 19, 2007 at Regency Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Nellie Estelle Jones Phillips. She retired from Gerber and the Wal-Mart Bakery, and was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Tracy Pless of Pelzer; daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Joel Hammonds of Williamston; sister, Jean Smith of Westminster; brothers, Billy Phillips of Clarksville, GA, Randolph Phillips of Westminster; grandchildren, Tracy Nichole Patrick, Erica Lee Pless, Tracy William Pless, Evie Brooke Pless, McKayla Hammonds, L. J. Hammonds; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a grandchild, Dakota Hammonds; and a sister, Mary Edmonds.

Funeral services were held Nov. 23 at West Pelzer Baptist Church with the Revs. Randall Smith and Mark Roberts officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

 The family received friends Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

RALPH ‘BUDDY’ CABANISS

Ralph “Buddy” Edward Cabaniss, 74, husband of Ruby Juanita Edens Cabaniss of Williamston, died Nov. 19, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Lockhart, he was a son of the late Rev. William Henry and Daisy Lee Gregory Cabaniss. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Mt. Vernon in Williamston and was of the Church of God faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Eddie Cabaniss, Roger Cabaniss, Tommy Cabaniss, all of Williamston, Ricky Cabaniss of Cheddar; brothers, Alvin Cabaniss, Earle Cabaniss, Larry Cabaniss, all of Lockhart; sisters, Mildred Black, Elaine Gaston, both of Lockhart, Doris Gainey of Cheraw, Peggy Thomas of Gray Court, Alice Sanders of Union; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 23 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.


VIRGINIA MELISA ‘JINK’ PHILLIPS

Virginia Melisa “Jink” Phillips, 82, widow of the late James “Bud” Phillips of Williamston died Nov. 20, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ether McDonald Johnson. She was a member of Pleasant View Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are son, Phil Phillips of Belton; two grandchildren; sisters, Sue Holmes of Augusta, GA, Dellaree Haynie of Greenville, NC, Betty Shaw Singleton, Sallie Elgin and Karen Keemey, all of Anderson; brothers, Sam, John and Harry Johnson, all of Belton and Frank Johnson of Honea Path.

Funeral services were held Nov. 21 at Pleasant View Wesleyan Church. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.


JULIE LOYD

Julie Human Loyd, 86, widow of Leo Loyd, of Williamston, died Nov. 20, 2007 at Riverside Living Center in Piedmont.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Alexander and Janie Willoughby Human. She was a homemaker and attended the Church of God.

Surviving are sisters, Bertha Major of Williamston, Carol Jean King of Columbus, MS.

Funeral services were held Nov. 24 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.


THEODORE ‘TEDDY’ KING

Theodore “Teddy” Harris King, 61, of Pelzer, died at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was son of William “Ted” Edward King and the late Sara Evelyn Harris King. He was a member of the National Guard and employed at Kings Used Cars.

Surviving are his father of Pelzer; daughter, Jane King of Pelzer and sister, Ann Coleman of Simpsonville.

No services are planned at this time.

Gray Mortuary is assisting the family.


RUDELL WALDROP CRISP

Nellie Rudell Foster Waldrop Crisp, 86, of Anderson, died Nov. 23, 2007 at Hart Care Center in Hartwell, GA.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Yancey Foster and Clara Adams Foster. She was a homemaker and a member of Orville Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are siblings, Sara Frances Rogers of Fort Worth, TX; John Grady Foster, Sr., Olin D. Foster, all of Anderson; Kenneth Foster of Williamston and Larry Lee Foster of Marietta, GA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Leonard Waldrop and Hubert Crisp, Sr.

Graveside services were held Nov. 26 at New Silverbrook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Orrville Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1800 S. Murray Avenue, Anderson, SC 29624.


ROBERT EARL HENDERSON

Robert Earl Henderson, 91, died November 22, 2007 at his home.

He was born in the Reedy Fork Church community to the late Decatur Calhoun and Mae Babb Henderson.

He was a lifelong dairy farmer and co-owner of Henderson Brothers Dairy and was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Morgan Henderson; two daughters, Anna Holcombe and Kathy Howard; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 24 at Reedy Fork Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Reedy Fork Baptist Church Building Fund, 459 Reedy Fork Road, Greenville, SC 29605.


AUTHER BROWNLEE

Auther Brownlee, 79, of Simpsonville, died Nov. 23, 2007.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Willie and Ethel Brownlee.

He retired from the Benson Bakery in Greenville.

Surviving are his wife, Evangelist Ruby Norton Brownlee of the home; sister, Sarah Frances Josey of Greenville; children, Marshall Hill, Gwendolyn, Danny and Darin Brownlee, all of Greenville, Karen Brownlee of Charlotte, NC, Prophetess Dedra Phillips of Simpsonville, Aaron Brock of Piedmont, James Brock II of Greenville, Alex Brock of Mauldin and Kenneth Brock of Greenville; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral service was held Nov. 26 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary.


MAMIE L. WELBORN

Mamie Lou Welborn, 90, of Taylors, widow of Avery “Jack” Welborn, died Nov. 24, 2007.

A native of Spartanburg County, daughter of the late Joseph “Joe” L. and Dessie Davenport Owensby, she was a homemaker and a member of El Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Copeland of Greer, Frances Dean and Shelby Gordy, both of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Mary Mullinax of Piedmont and Virginia Hardrick of Taylors; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 26 at Wood Mortuary. Burial followed in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.


JOYCE SPEARMAN

PELZER - Velma Joyce Cooley Spearman, 75, of 129 Chapman Road, died Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born in Tony Creek, SC, she was a daughter of the late Moses Charles and Hattie Blanche Poole Cooley. She retired from Regal Textiles in Ware Shoals and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Belton.

Surviving are daughter, Susan Joyce Finley of Pelzer and her fiance Eugene Weaver of Anderson; son, Michael Lee Spearman of the home; brothers, Billy Mack Cooley of Pelzer, James Randall Cooley of Laurens, Jimmy Dalton Cooley of Honea Path; sister, Violet Ruth Davis of Ware Shoals; grandchildren, Tiffany Darrah, John Spearman; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Darrah.

She was predeceased by a sister, Betty McCall.

Funeral services were held at  2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the Rev. Harold Miller and the Rev. Charles Heatherly officiating. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery in Greenville.

The family is at the home and received friends Wednesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.


BETTY DAVIS

Betty Sue Davis, 75, of Connie’s Residential Care, formerly of Williamston, died Nov. 24, 2007 at AnMed Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Oscar and Ruby Dean Davis. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Surviving are a brother, Gary Davis of Williamston; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Nov. 27 at Gray Mortuary Chapel.  A private burial will be held at a later date.


CORDIA L. WHITESIDES

Cordia L. Murray Lasenbury Whitesides, of Piedmont, died Nov. 23, 2007 at her home.

Surviving are six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 28 at St. Mark United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.


CLYDE BARKSDALE JR.

Clyde Barksdale Jr. of Fountain Inn, died Nov. 25, 2007 at his home.

A son of Chicora Atkinson Barksdale of Fountain Inn and the late Clyde Barksdale Sr., he was a retired employee of 3M and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Katherine Smith of the home; three sons, Brian Williams of Spartanburg, Dexter Bernard Barksdale of Simpsonville, Octavius Barksdale of Piedmont; one daughter, Monica B. Jenkins of Fountain Inn; three brothers, the Rev. Henry Lee Barksdale, Calvin D. Barksdale and Jessie Barksdale of Fountain Inn; eight sisters, Lelar Brown, Queen Smith, Henrietta Armfield, Shirley Cook, Elizabeth Wells of Fountain Inn, Ruby Austin of Greenville, Tracey Sullivan of Simpsonville and Teressa Williams of Mauldin; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


EURALEE LOLLIS

Clara Euralee Scott Lollis, 64, of Pelzer, widow of Ramsey Steele Lollis, died Nov. 27, 2007 at her home.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late J. D. and Sue Jackson Scott. She was a former employee of Blair Mills in Belton and a member of Trinity Baptist Tabernacle.

Surviving are daughters, Donna Bogan of Pelzer, Karen Otabachi of Charlotte, NC, Kim O’Shields of Pelzer; step-son, Mike Lollis of Clover; sisters, Mildred Hicks of Conestee, Susie Atwood of Fountain Inn; brother, the Rev. Sammy Scott of Conestee; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Henry Ford Nalley, 90, widower of Eva Mae Hollingsworth Nalley, of Florence, died Nov. 25, 2007.

Born in Pickens, he was a son of the late O.E. and Hortense Durham Nalley, Sr.

He was a retired school teacher from Moore Junior High School in Florence and was a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a sister, Cornelia N. Bowen of Williamston; brothers, W. T. Nalley and Haskell Nalley both of Pickens and Homer Nalley of Easley.

Funeral services were held Nov. 28 at John Calvin Presbyterian Church. Entombment with Masonic Rites will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum in Pickens.

CECIL G. OWINGS

Cecil G. Owings, 92, widow of Grover C. Owings, died Nov. 26, 2007.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Floyd and Mary Alice Greer Dilworth.

She was a homemaker and a member of Arrington Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Moore; son, John Heyward Owings of Pelzer; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lauren D. Stroud of Travelers Rest; and one grandson, Robert “Bob” Owens who was raised in the home.

Funeral service will be held at Arrington Memorial United Methodist Church at 3 p.m., Thursday. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
